章 38: The First EP

When Tang Miaoyi and An Qiuying returned home, it was already completely dark. Though, aw a bustling metropolis and one of the largest cities in China, even at night, Shanghai was as bright as daytime in some parts, glowing in neon colours.

Once she got home and entered the living room, Tang Miaoyi quickly changed out of her skirt, took off her white stockings, and casually threw them on the sofa. Without resting much, she headed straight for her small room. She was too tired to care about public decency.

An Qiuying, who entered after her, stood still for a few seconds, stunned. She quickly snapped out of it, rubbed her eyes, then,

...

..

.

...Continued as normal.

Unfortunately, she was used to it by now...

After opening her computer, inserting the device, and successfully archiving the recorded vocal part for "Closer," Tang Miaoyi breathed a sigh of relief.

Fortunately, everything went smoothly, and the progress bar for "Closer" increased by a single percentage point.

During the fighting online, The Rex had messaged her privately and had coordinated the battle for real. They both knew that the more official they made the duel, the more publicity the winner would get. Since they both had absolute confidence, accepting the terms was a no-brainer. They set a joint release date, which forced her to speed up her production a bit, due to her earlier comment about "Releasing "Solo Dance" with the rest of her EP." So, she needed to finish "Closer" by the due date as well.

She quickly opened the "RPA" software, and through simple tech wizardry, Tang Miaoyi was able to convert the raw vocal recording into an editable audio track.

"Now I should be able to fall asleep, probably?" After doing all this, Tang Miaoyi stretched lazily, yawned, and her eyes slightly tearing up due to strain, "Hmm, let me sleep first and finish the rest tomorrow..."

It wasn't that Tang Miaoyi wanted to slack off, but she was really tired. Don't assume that making music was easy because the whole process was just sitting down and not moving.

Other people either started businesses or bought lottery tickets after being reincarnated. They either had supernatural powers that could move mountains or were able to do things instantaneously. But what about her? She was reborn as a normal girl and, aside from creating a song like "Fox," she still had two new songs to make in addition to dealing with her studies.

And "Fox" didn't even make it into mainstream culture! It was a huge hit among electronic enthusiasts, sure, and dragged a few normal people into the genre, but its views were still too low! As soon as a song became mainstream in her other world, it instantly gained hundreds of millions or even billions of streams!

But looking at someone like The Rex, who lost in sales to one song, it can be shown just how hard making a mainstream song really is.

Reminded of money, Miaoyi realized she hadn't received a single penny yet. In fact, she had invested a lot of her own money.

Tang Miaoyi subconsciously took out her phone and glanced at it. She thought about her other resource of money in this world.

Although her mother in her previous life's memory was not well-formed, and even her basic appearance was blurry, she had never shortchanged Tang Miaoyi. It seemed that she had even set up some automatic transfer functions. Almost every month on the first day, a few thousand yuan would be sent to Tang Miaoyi's account. Occasionally, there were also some small amounts of money for utility bills, tuition fees, and gas bills.

Tang Miaoyi paid attention to the screen of her phone and found that today's date was September 30th, and she was a little surprised: "It's already October?"

As soon as midnight passed, a new month would begin. In other words, if things went as usual, tomorrow should be the day she received her living expenses.

Then, Tang Miaoyi remembered the conversation she had before...

Her mind wandered for a few seconds, and she stared off into space unblinking.

She quickly came back to her senses though, and shook her head,

"I must really be tired, huh..."

"Anyway, the payment from Light Cloud will be coming soon, so it won't have any impact," Tang Miaoyi thought. She didn't care about money THAT much, and even if things went as expected, she might not even need her mother's living expenses in the future.

Suppressing her sleepiness, Tang Miaoyi took a shower and changed into her short nightgown. Feeling drowsy, she couldn't wait to climb into bed and get some good sleep.

The night passed peacefully, as she subconsciously relaxed in her sleep.

Time flew by quickly.

In the past few days, many users of Light Cloud Music and even Tianyou's website noticed a very strange phenomenon - both platforms experienced a surge of newly registered users in a short period of time. All kinds of comment sections and discussion areas were crowded with new IDs and figures.

Light Cloud Music had been a gathering for electronic music enthusiasts, but the news of the battle transcended both The Rex's audience and TMY's. These new users were just there to watch the battle that started on Weibo, and since Weibo had a much larger audience than Light Cloud, many created new accounts just for this.

As the release date of TMY and The Rex's new songs approached, the popularity of the platform increased. This had grown far beyond what either TMY or The Rex had anticipated, and it had snowballed into a massive event. Coupled with the surge in users, it seemed that something was brewing in the previously calm electronic music circle.

Everything else seems to be normal, except for Tang Miaoyi, who is also busy working on her new EP.

She was not aware of the trends on the internet. After all, the production of "Closer," one of the two new songs, was underway. Like most creative people, she consciously cut off contact with the outside world. Apart from going to school with An Qiuying every day, she really could be considered ignorant of everything.

As for the short message she received from her mother, the living expenses did not arrive on the first day, but a small amount of money did come on the second day - only fifty yuan. Tang Miaoyi didn't mind and didn't say anything. She continued to work on her new single, ignoring everything else.

In fact, if it were up to Tang Miaoyi, she would be working harder than when she worked on "Fox" last time. She would have already asked for a leave of absence from her teacher, as the workload was truly too much.

However, what eventually convinced her otherwise, was the fact that she was the class president, and there are many class duties that need to be taken care of. In the past, the study committee member Lin Ruofang would take over all the monitor's duties during her absence.

However, what Tang Miaoyi didn't expect was that this time it was Lin Ruofang's turn to take a day off. And if Miaoyi was taking a day off, Lin Ruofang would naturally be responsible for her class duties. Which would leave some poor soul to clean up after both of them...

As a result, Tang Miaoyi, who had originally thought of having an easy time, had her burden become heavier, making her feel aggrieved and want to cry.

However, according to An Qiuying's words, this is called the dao of heaven. The harder you work, the more the heavens would reward your efforts.

Tang Miaoyi could only begrudgingly begin this busy period...

Fortunately, An Qiuying would still do her best to help, sometimes sharing some of the pressure with Tang Miaoyi. Tang Miaoyi was very grateful to have such a good friend by her side.

The production process was in full swing, and progress was rapidly moving forward.

During the production, Tang Miaoyi found a way to complete the sound recording task. Surprisingly, it was found in the least likely place, at school!

During her science class on Monday, her teacher brought a Tesla Coil to teach about electricity. He had even programmed it to make music notes! She had secretly recorded the sounds, and had edited them back at home to recreate the Future Bass sounds. It wasn't perfect, but until she gets access to a power plant, it would have to do.

Unexpectedly, it worked better than she had expected.

Now that the biggest challenge has been solved, all that remained was the grunt work, and building the atmosphere of the song.

As the release date that The Rex and TMY had agreed upon approached, Tang Miaoyi uploaded two named audio files into the Musician section.

This time, The Rex's "The King of Street Dance" was finally the featured promotional animation for Light Cloud Platform.

The Rex's long-dormant Weibo and Cheng Xiaofan's Weibo were finally updated.

On October 6th, the day of the release, TMY's latest work, following "Fox," was the final theme song for "Here Is Street Dance," and the first large-scale fan event with her fans. TMY was rapidly becoming the fastest-rising producer.

Meanwhile, The Rex was officially known as the new generation's first person of electronic music, with numerous best-selling songs in the genre and a large fan base. His style was loved by a large number of fans, and he was the undisputed favourite for this year's Canxing Nova Award. This time, he would collaborate with a popular young king of the pop music industry on a new single.

The collision of these two individuals was already full of enough topics to attract countless people's attention.

At this moment, whether it was casual electronic music listeners or some knowledgeable insiders in the industry, they were all paying attention to this musical competition.
