Xiao Mei sat in the back seat of the car, staring out of the window. She tried to ignore her father's voice, which was cold and harsh.

"Focus on your book and stop causing us problems. I won't tolerate it. This is your final straw. You're lucky I found you a place to stay in Canada. Maybe there you'll learn some discipline and respect." 

Mr. Xiao was a successful businessman, respected but with many enemies and rivals. They were always trying to harm him and his company. He had many secrets and things he needed to protect. He didn't have time or patience for a daughter who could was a liability.

Xiao Mei kept her face hidden in her hair and quietly nodded. She didn't want to argue, knowing her father had already decided.

He handed her the flight ticket, and she took it without looking at him. "Time to go. Your flight's waiting."

She nodded again and murmured, "I'll leave now."
