章 78: 37. Basket Case.
I got my shape changed, and Mimosa didn't surface; she was in a lazy mood. Damon put the harness on me and checked it was tight so that I couldn't get it off. He also put the leash on; then he went to change the shape when Adam, Magnum, and apparently Higgins came on.
Higgins was a blonde-haired, nice-looking woman who spoke with an English accent, and the two actresses that came to mind were Amanda Mealing and Ellen Pompeo. Higgins stroked me, and so did Magnum.
Magnum genuinely felt scared, so I went and sat in front of him. I sniffed around for a while and then took a bundle of zip ties from his back pocket, dropping them on the floor to show that I was in charge. Magnum calmed down a bit.
While we were waiting for Damon to finish his transformation, Adam had found a brush somewhere and started brushing me, fine I'll put up with it.
Then Magnum wanted to brush me himself. I let him brush and groom even though it felt like I was a lapdog, but it didn't matter.
Then Adam got some strong nail scissors from somewhere, went to sit on the sofa, and said, " Mimi. Hop over here."
I had no choice when Alpha ordered me to, so I obeyed. He started clipping my nails, then took the scissors and clipped my paw hairs neat.
I was a good girl then, and by the time my paws were neat and my nails clipped, Damon was ready, and Adam put a harness on him, too. Damon, in his wolf form, was considerably less hairy than me, so he didn't need to be groomed.
We went out of the hotel.
I walked nicely, and so did Damon. However, for some reason, he was in a playful mood and tried to sniff my butt, so Adam had to snarl, " Now is not the time for that, and she's still not smelling the heat, so stop it and now."
Damon calmed down and then focused on being a magnificent wolf. We went for a walk into town, and according to Adam, we would sniff and see the demons in our wolf form. And when we would see, we should express it, we would practice, and that's when Damon would stop and lift his tail up.
I did it differently because he was clearly agitated.
I showed Magnum when he asked, "How do you tell me if there's a demon somewhere?"
I walked in front of Magnum and sat down, so he had to stop, then I kept looking in that direction. He understood, and it was on. Higgins, Damon, and Adam went to the other side of town while me and Magnum walked this side.
We had been walking for a few hours when I smelled it. It was actually nice walking in city in wolf form too. Different perspective and those smells. The stink of sulfur and the kind of stink that went up my nose, I sneezed, and my Magnum tensed. We were strolling, and then I saw it.
It seemed human, but my wolf's eyes saw its aura, and it was rotten. If the aura is normally like an energy field around a human, well as a metaphor from the game Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic has a bubble of protection now and then.
A normal aura would be like that, thin but visible, but this creature's aura was thick and looked soft, like some kind of mattress or rotten thing surrounding it.
I wound up in front of Magnum and sat down, looking at the guy hard. Magnum leaned over and supposedly spoke to me; he asked almost silently, "Green jacket, jeans?"
I moved my head. We approached the demon, and when Magnum saw he was hidden enough, he pulled out a special gun and fired once. The man groaned and turned to jelly, a liquid that evaporated quite quickly.
We kept going. Now that I knew what to smell, I could concentrate, and the smell I got was surprisingly easy even after a long distance; we became a power duo, and Magnum could kill eight in a couple of hours. I learned I had hyper-focus. When I focused, I really focus then.
Adam was in contact, and he and Damon and Higgins had only found three as Damon hadn't been that skilled at first but had been pretty confident that he would find them quickly, but he soon learned that you have to work a little to find the victims.
We were walking down one street when I got the smell again, a strong one at that. Several demons.
Magnum furrowed his brow and said, "That building, huh?"
Again, I nodded or moved my head so that people wouldn't look at the nodding dog. We approached the building, and Damon, Adam, and Higgins were on the other side of town, not even close, so we had to do this alone.
Adam cursed fiercely when Magnum put out a message that they had found the nest and were ready to attack. He had no choice but to give permission; these were too important to kill, and the hour or two it would take them to get there could decide everything; they were forced to explore the other side of New York's alleys while Magnum and Mimi took out this demon's nest all at once.
Magnum said, "I'll take the leash off so you can operate. I'll go left, and you go right. Are you ready?"
I nodded and felt the adrenaline starting to flow hard. We got closer; we hid in the shadows, and Magnum unhooked my leash. I quickly and silently ran to the right side of the warehouse, slipped in, and when I heard the first shot, I charged in and ripped their throats out.
They turned into slime puddles surprisingly easily, and I was fast and efficient. There were over 50 demons here, so we had our work cut out, but we killed all in less than 15 minutes.
Magnum gathered all the information he could find and reported back to Adam. Then, we went on with our business. We went around the city, killing 16 more demons before heading back to the hotel.
This was another hotel; someone had already moved here for our stuff.
Magnum took me to the suite, took off the harness, and said, " Now you can change the form; I will wait here. Adam and Damon are on their way here. It will probably take half an hour-45 minutes before they arrive."
I went to the bathroom and started to change shape. It was painful as ever, and I tried not to make too much noise, but it wasn't always possible.
Once I got my shape changed, I showered and scrubbed myself clean; I felt like I was covered in demon slime, and the shape change, in general, made me feel dirty.
I put on my bathrobe, wrapped my hair in a towel, and came out of the bathroom. Adam and Magnum were talking, and I heard noises from the other room as Damon changed shape.
I didn't even think much as I gathered my clothes and what I wanted to put on, dried my hair, and took off the bathrobe. I started to get dressed, and Magnum and Adam saw my naked body clearly.
Damon entered the room. He took one look at me, took a towel, and spread it out in front of me so that the evident interest in both Adam and Magnum's gaze got nothing to look at.
He looked at me sternly as I dressed and then took me into another room and said, " Perhaps you are going to seduce Magnum and Adam as you pranced naked in front of them. Am I not enough for you, baby?"
My voice was neutral as I answered, "I wasn't seducing anyone. I wasn't even thinking about it when I was just trying to get dressed."
Damon took a moment to stare at me before stating, "Try not to be unclothed in front of other men when I come into the room next time."
He dried me and my hair, put it in a hairdo, and went to get me another change of clothes. I then changed. After that, we returned to the living room, and Higgins, Magnum, and Adam were there chatting about just about anything.
Higgins was telling Magnum about all the shops she had spotted, and Magnum was kissing her passionately, promising that soon they would be off to explore the shops even though it was late at night or almost night. I wasn't sleepy, and I didn't necessarily want to fuck, but I could eat.
Damon and Adam were chatting with Magnum and Higgins, but I wandered into the kitchen and started taking food from the fridge, heating it up, and going to eat. Neither of the men paid any attention to me, and that was just because they were still in work mode.
After a couple of hours, Magnum and Higgins left while I was lying in bed, reading an anatomy book on my phone, and I was just lying there.
Then I heard the door open, and when I went to look, there was a note on the table saying, " Be safe. This is going to take some work. We will be right back, Adam and Damon."
Fine, we'll continue to be alone. Luckily Magnum and Higgins were off duty and Adam had given his consent for them to be my security guards, we went to the shops, and I found these lovely little mystery shops where I bought rugs, dishes, books, statues, and even paintings, I put them in every house.
I was just thinking in my mind that this was supposed to be a time for me and Damon to spend together, but the gigs came up, and what am I supposed to do about it? It's just my life.
We went out to eat and now I didn't care what I ate, as long as I always ate something and we continued shopping. I wasn't bitter or anything; I started to learn to take the day at a time and not put any expectations on things, but I didn't sleep; I didn't even try. I knew my mind and its problems, and that's not what Samuel's capsules would help with now.
Damon could be jealous, and all that, but work always came first. Soon, the men had been on the gig for a week. Magnum and Higgins had to leave after a few days, but I had bought enough to keep myself entertained.
I read, ate, and played console games as I'd got a couple of game consoles, and they were surprisingly good toys that made the time go by smoothly. I found out for myself how adaptable I actually am, well it's more an attitude than anything else.
Then I started thinking about what to do next; well, I could go to a gig myself soon because I just had this flash of insight that these two see me as weak and want to protect me, but I'm not weak and protectable anymore.
I guess at some point, I should show up and remind them again. But when these games took over, I wasn't even thinking about doing gigs anymore. Then I got the next break, and when Adam didn't tell me not to go into town when I asked him by message, I would go and check my safe deposit boxes.
First, I had to make a route plan, where each bank was, take a few bags or suitcases with me, and be ready to go. I didn't say anything to Damon about it; I had asked permission from Adam, and that was enough.
The next morning, I was ready. My suitcase was sturdy and very secure, and I knew the itinerary. I put on a pink silk dress, put on my high-heeled designer shoes, let my hair down, and just put on a hairband to keep it out of my eyes. As I got ready, I applied my makeup and made sure everything was prepared.
I also hid a gun in my bag, but I made sure it was securely concealed and unlikely to be noticed by security. Dresden had enchanted the bag at Adam's request, ensuring that I could always carry a weapon without arousing suspicion.
I left the hotel and started walking. I knew my route and wasn't going to take a taxi, as it wouldn't do any good. The journeys weren't that long and now to sit in a taxi and in traffic when walking, you'd be there already.
Damon and Adam had destroyed all the satanic demons, all 18 hives, and now Damon wanted to spend time with Mimi. They were supposed to be alone, and he had all sorts of romantic plans for several weeks, but the satanic demons struck, and he had to do a job. Just when he was free, she had informed him she was going to search the safe deposit boxes.
Damon said to Adam, "How about we go along? We'll stalk the lady at the bank and see what's in the safe deposit boxes. Reddington had talked about putting some medicine samples in her safe deposit boxes he could get his hands on, and I don't want her to poison herself accidentally."
Adam nodded. His expression was a bit grumpy, and he was also starting to think about it. It would be better if they looked after Mimi and saw what she was getting from Reddington.
