"Why did you not correct the man?" His voice rose a pitch higher as she opened the lock.

The old man offered to show her the inside, but she refused. She would handle it herself. The old man looked at them knowingly and agreed. Kriss felt offended.

"Hmm? About that love thing?" Here he was boiling with anger and she behaved so nonchalantly. 

Wait!

He paused. Why was he angry? Was he not aiming for the same thing?

He smiled and held her hands gently, rubbing her thumb on the back of her hands and looking at her lovingly.

"Yes, do you think we can be lovers?" His smile grew. It was enchanting. Any girl would have lost her senses and nodded at every word he whispered. But she just laughed.

"Of course not! Do not mind me. You are handsome. Very handsome but I am already engaged to the Duke. And you already know that, right?" She took a step back and looked around the shop completely forgetting about his existence when he gritted his teeth.
