"My lady, you would need a dress. Shall I inform the head maid about it?" asked Daisy in a soft voice as she worried that wearing slave clothes all the time would not be appropriate for her.
Not forgetting that the dress was too dirty and a bit torn too.
"Sigh! I keep forgetting about it. I need a dress, but so does the child. Did the blockh.. Cough... I mean the duke did not arrange clothes for us when he arranged the room?" Daisy shook her head but then thinking about something, she added.
"Do not misunderstand, my lady. The Duke, I mean your highness, did not have much experience in hospitality; it was her highness that used to take care of such things.
But I am sure the head maid would arrange something for both of you before dinner. She is a very efficient woman or I can ask the butler too." she assured Mary, but Mary shook her head as she looked around.
"That would take a long time since you would not be able to find them anyway. And if you noticed, I am sure everyone else would have noticed my clothes too. If they still did not offer us clothes, how are they efficient then?" Mary's raised sharp brows and blunt tongue left the young maid at a loss for words as she did not know why the butler and head maid did not even come to meet the guest.
Not even when they knew it, one of the maids insulted the magnificent Oracle.
"Then.. are you planning to wear the same dress, my lady?" the question was still there. Even if Daisy would help her with bathing and with her hair, the dress would not let her look presentable.
"Hmmmm.. how are you when it comes to sewing, Daisy?" asked Mary after a pause and her eyes were twinkling but the maid sighed.
"My lady, we need to take the permission of the head maid to buy the clothes first, then visit the market to choose the perfect cloth and then stitch it. It would take more time than buying a ready-made dress. I know that the custom-made dresses are better but we did not have much time and his highness did not like tardiness." the girl said in a single breath as she was afraid that she would not be able to explain well and the lady would have an unfavorable impression of the palace.
Who knew what other powers the seer possessed? What if she could curse them for being frogs too? But Mary only felt amused by her worried look.
"Hmm, I already have clothes in my mind and I have a design in mind too. But I am not good at sewing. If you could do that, Alex's dress would be ready in no time." She had clothes? Daisy was sure that the woman had come empty-handed. But she did not dare to question such a great personality but only marveled if she knew magic and hid things.
"Ah! But what about your dress?" she asked confused when Mary waved her hands.
"Do not worry about that. Bring the blue thread, a few buttons, and a pair of scissors as soon as you can." Daisy bowed her head and sprinted out of the room thrilled. She wanted to see what was in the strange woman's mind.
Mary stood up and opened the closet again. When she had seen it before, she had noticed that though it did not have any clothes, it contained many silk bedsheets and covers for the preference of guests.
She marveled at their qualities. From the time she belonged, even the most expensive silk dress that cost her thousands of dollars wasn't like this one."
"It must be a natural and rare one!" After taking some time, she took out one thin silk cover and a heavy brocade silk bedsheet.
She had already picked up the nib and started making lines in the dress when Daisy returned.
She was excited when she entered the room but shocked to see the woman ruining the bed covers.
"Umm, my lady… wait! Are you planning to wear them?" it finally clicked to her what the Oracle was talking about but she had never seen anyone wearing bedsheets and covers before.
"Yes! The child would look great in the blue brocade silk. I have already taken his measurements and marked the points. You just need to cut them and stitch them as I am telling you." Thank goodness they did not wear modern clothes but long capes, kaftans, and gowns that a woman would have worn in her time after some adjustments.
The maid was still not sure but when Mary looked at her, she was unable to reject again and started cutting clothes.
Mary took the silk cover and cut it herself. She did not cut much but only the cloth of her size and then made too long holes in it and a small strip.
"Hmmmm, you know how to stitch right? Do it till I take a bath. We do not have much time." Daisy nodded and started working hard on it when Mary went to take a bath.
"Sigh! The woman is so humble." Daisy had never seen a guest taking a bath by herself before. She worked hard to prove her worth and stitched the dress as instructed when she realized she was not given any instructions about the dress to the lady.
"Wait.. my lady." She entered the bathroom after a knock to ask how to stitch her dress only to see that she was already wearing it.
She had used two holes in the dress for her hands and then tied a broad strip like a waistband in the middle of it with an interesting knot. But… it was showing her a deep neckline and a lot of cleavage and only hiding her hips. The rest of the dress had a long slit that was showing her legs.
"Oh my! My lady. Let me stitch it for you too!"
