章 7: 7. Magic Wand

```
For a Spellcaster, the importance of a Magic Wand goes without saying, a suitable wand can enhance an excellent Spellcaster even more exaggeratedly than a Sword Saint finding his dream sword.
Similarly, a Spellcaster without a wand is like a Sharpshooter without a gun, essentially rendering half their abilities useless on the spot, unless the Spellcaster has mastered advanced techniques like wandless casting.
As the ultimate race standing at the top of the Spellcaster system, Witches are far less reliant on wands compared to other races' mages who wouldn't even know how to cast a Fireball Technique without one, for they are naturally adept at casting spells without a wand.
Some little witches with exceptional talent can even have their first cry at birth imbued with magical power, which is a form of innate magic, and they have no need for a wand to assist them.
Those young witches who don't yet know how to control the magic power innate to their bodies can be even more frightening. The troublemakers of other races at most might be a little naughty, only causing harm to furniture and the like, which isn't a big threat; but witch troublemakers may well hurl fireballs or frost at the faces of their parents.
It is said that some of the Peak Witches when they were young were formidable, their fearsome talent allowing them to cast high-order magic merely by following their instincts, and it would not be unusual for them to accidentally send their unprepared parents to the hospital.
Well, although the Witches appear human on the outside, considering them akin to Magical Beasts that are inherently able to use magic isn't entirely wrong.
However, this doesn't mean that witches do not need wands. It's similar to the idea that people can walk, but driving a car can get them much faster; a high-quality wand can significantly enhance the effects of a witch's magic.
Over the years, the development and evolution of wands have matured significantly through endless adjustments and upgrades by countless Spellcasters.
In the Witch World today, wands are essentially categorized by length into three types: short wands, long wands, and standard wands.
Short Wands are generally less than 40 cm long, never longer than the length of a person's forearm. The advantage of such wands is the quick and convenient casting of spells, high precision in magic control, and because of their small size, they are easier to conceal, making them suitable for assassins or Spellcasters who favor quick attacks.
As for the disadvantages, they use less material, which results in low efficiency in magic power conversion and leads to more unnecessary wastage of magic power, and they have a lesser amplifying effect on the magic.
Long Wands are usually more than one and a half meters long, many even taller than the Spellcasters themselves. The advantage of these wands is they have high efficiency in magic power conversion and strongly amplify magical effects, which suits Spellcasters who operate like magic artillery.
However, long wands also have disadvantages, such as being too conspicuous to conceal easily, revealing the presence of the Spellcaster and being difficult to control due to their capacity to channel a great deal of magic power, thus requiring the user to have a high degree of precision in magic control.
Standard Wands are, as their name suggests, the most standard type of wand, with a length between that of short and long wands, typically around one meter. They combine the advantages of both short and long wands and are well-balanced, having decent attributes in all aspects without notable weaknesses.
After Dorothy followed Alice into the shop, what first caught her eye were the various glass display cases. The entire shop was divided into three areas: all kinds of short wands hung on the left wall, various long wands on the right display wall, and the central glass wall cabinet showcased a variety of standard wands.
"Welcome, two adorable Madam Witches."
An elderly voice welcomed them; it belonged to an old gentleman with rimmed glasses. The old man had white hair and a white beard but looked quite spirited and well-dressed, exuding an air of an elderly gentleman.
Dorothy looked at the old man's appearance and recognized him as an ordinary Human Mage, which made her regard his skill quite highly.
Although humans are closely related to witches, they are not considered one of the Higher Races in the magical world, and their natural talent for magic pales in comparison to supernatural races like Elves and Dwarves. Their only notable advantage being their vast population and the backing of the Witches.
The entry standards for a Witches' Specialty Store are very high, and even for supernatural races like Elves and Dwarves, it's not easy to meet them, let alone the more average humans.
But relatively speaking, those human shopkeepers who have been officially accepted into a Witches' Specialty Store must possess true skill.
"Grandpa Odell, I've come to support your business again."
```

Alice approached the old man with great familiarity and greeted him.

"Hehehe, welcome, welcome, Little Alice."

The old man also revealed a kind expression and cheerfully welcomed the regular visitor.

"Are you here for your magic wand maintenance again today?"

he asked.

"Mhm, mhm, I have to trouble you again. This is my sister, Dorothy, I brought her with me today to buy a new magic wand. Could you help us find one that suits her, preferably the latest smart magic wand?"

Alice, while handing over two pistols from the magic pocket on her person to the old man, introduced her sister who stood beside her.

Dorothy's gaze lingered more on the two pistols that Alice pulled out, her expression slightly odd.

These were a pair of pistols that looked very cool, one black and one white, with their bodies covered in red patterns resembling veins, and even extending from below the barrels were two sharp blades, indicating that these guns could also be used for close combat.

These twin pistols were Alice's magic wands, a type of short wand.

"Tsk, wands have changed so much with the times."

Dorothy muttered to herself. As a transmigrator, not only did she not feel any informational advantage of being a transmigrator, she often felt that she couldn't keep up with the development of the magical world, experiencing an uneasy sensation akin to an antiquated relic out of touch with the times.

However, that's just how it was in the Witch World, where the only standard for wands was their length; otherwise, there were no restrictions. Their forms varied greatly, including knives, guns, swords, halberds, and even staffs, nothing like the singular wooden stick with a gemstone she had imagined.

But upon further reflection, it made sense. After all, although witches were among the top spellcasters, they weren't as physically frail as true spellcasters. Witches' excellent physical condition allowed them to face their enemies in close combat without fear upon being approached, and even to beat up professional warriors into questioning their own existence.

Therefore, for a witch's magic wand, that kind of wooden stick structure, unsuitable for close combat, naturally would not suffice. Witches' magic wands had to be capable of blasting from afar and engaging in knife fights up close.

While Dorothy was still convincing herself to get accustomed to the present times quickly, the shopkeeper grandpa turned his gaze toward her.

"Miss Witch, may I see your previous magic wand?"

the grandpa spoke gently.

Dorothy hurriedly pulled out the magic wand she had always been using from her pocket and handed it to the old man.

It was also a short wand, similar in style to those seen in a magic school movie from her previous life.

It had been her trusty companion for over a decade; she had chosen this basic-level beginner's wand due to her affection for the movie when she first started learning magic.

But in recent years, the trusty companion indeed hadn't been able to keep up with her growth. Now, whenever she was casting spells, she had to carefully control her magical power to prevent it from exploding on the spot; it was indeed time for the trusty companion to retire and rest.

She looked at her short wand a bit reluctantly, then eagerly at the old man, wondering what kind of new wand he would recommend to her.
