章 27: Chapter 27 - Unity(Part 7)
"Whew, I'm beat! Let's call it a day for now, my tank's just about running on empty," Sighed Theo wearily, as he flopped onto the floor.
"Yeah, sounds good to me. At least I beat you once today," I replied with a sigh, as I sat down beside him, wiping my forehead with a towel.
"That's a nice, even twenty-five wins for me, and ten for you," He grinned triumphantly.
"Well, twenty-five isn't even, but yeah."
"I know it's not even, but there's something about multiples of five...it's hard to explain, but they just feel even somehow, not quite sure how to put it into words," He replied thoughtfully.
"I hate that I know what you mean...yeah, it's like, when you're turning up the volume on a TV or computer, it feels more right to have it at a multiple of five," I smiled wryly.
"Yes! That's exactly it, you described it perfectly!" He exclaimed with a nod, before we both burst out laughing.
"What even is this conversation?" I chuckled in amusement.
Two weeks have passed since I switched trainers from Xandra to Theo, it's the 20th of November, 2016, today.
I'm faring a lot better against him than I did when I was sparring against her...for one thing, while he's way faster than I am thanks to his Super Speed power, his technique isn't as sharp or as refined as Xandra's is.
Once I got used to his patterns of attack, it became a matter of predicting and premeditating his moved, and then reacting accordingly. Of course, since he's got such overwhelming speed at his disposal, I don't always predict correctly, which is why he still has a winning record against me.
That said, I'm glad it's not as overwhelming a record as Xandra's win ratio against me. Because Theo really likes to rub it in whenever he wins...but on the flipside, that makes it all the more satisfying when I beat him. Which is slowly but surely starting to get more frequent lately.
"Oh, yeah, I almost forgot to tell you, I won't be able to train you for the next couple of days. We've got an important mission that's suddenly come up," He informed me.
"Yeah? What kind of mission?" I asked him in fascination.
"Well, a small group of anti-Alter terrorists have shown up here in Cahgo, they've been causing a lot of trouble. We've apprehended some of them, and after investigating the ones we captured, we found out that each of them had flown in here at different times.
In other words, they've been sneaking into the country separately and one by one, that's how they've been able to avoid detection until now...Unity has received a lot of threatening messages from them, so we think they're here for us.
After all, destroying the main base of Unity would be a huge blow for pro-Alter efforts. Which is exactly why we need to get this under control ASAP. There's a big operation to flush them out and try to find their hideout, and I'm gonna be a part of it," He explained, as he picked up the water bottle and took several deep gulps from it.
"I see. Well, good luck with that. Hope it goes well," I replied as I gave him a pat on the shoulder.
"Xandra, the boss and a few of our other core members will be staying behind as a precaution, but most of us will be on the mission. I mean, it's unlikely that these terrorists would be stupid enough to attack this place directly," He pointed out.
Depends on how fanatical these terrorists are...if they're the same type as the ones who wouldn't hesitate to suicide-bomb for their beliefs, I'm not so sure that that possibility is as unlikely as he thinks it is...
"Mhm, hope you're right," I responded as I stood up and stretched my arms out, "Well, I'm gonna hit the showers and spend the rest of the day in my room. Later."
"Cool, dude, see you later."
I then headed out of the training hall and upto my room, feeling pretty worn out as I dragged my feet through the building. As I entered my room and shut the door, I took off my sweaty clothes, tossing them into the laundry basket, before heading into the bathroom.
I took a quick shower before drying myself off, tying the towel around my waist and getting out of the bathroom, before being startled as...
"Hey! I heard that you've got a couple of free days since Theo's gonna be a part of the big mission to apprehend the terrorists...you always spend your time in here, you should come socialize and get to know some of our other members better," Xandra greeted me, sitting on the bed.
"I've already met pretty much everyone here, there's no need for that," I sighed in exasperation, "Now, could you please leave? I need to get ch-..."
"You've met them but you've barely spoken to most of them! We're all living in the same building, so you should get to know everyone!" She interrupted, walking over and grabbing my shoulders.
"I'd really rather not...maybe another time, if I feel like it," I replied, taking a step back.
"You're not getting away!" She exclaimed, as she tried to pull me back by the towel...and ended up yanking it right off, "Uh...oops?"
"You didn't have to do that, I wasn't gonna run away while half naked," I sighed as I reached out for the towel with a frown, "Can I have that back, please?"
"Y-yup, all yours!" She nodded as she handed it back immediately, "I'll, uh, wait outside...come out once you're done getting dressed, okay?"
"Better idea, I'll stay in here and you can go do whatever."
"Nope, denied! I'll be back in two minutes, that should be enough time, right? And just to make sure you can't lock yourself in...," She smirked as she took the key out of the door before stepping out of the room, "See you in a couple of minutes, Red!"
...but I really don't wanna.
