“On my honor as your alpha,” I said loud and clear, as I turned to face them all. “I will step down willingly and leave this pack, if you can defeat the Fae, Pax!”

Judging by the looks on their faces, they had been more likely to believe fire to shoot out of my ass than those words out of my mouth. Even Chris gaped at me in stunned disbelief, before his face morphed into bitter disappointment. As if I’d just stabbed him in the back!

But I had to deal with butt-hurt feelings later.

Right now, I had to get Pax on board with my plan – and make sure I hadn’t just made the biggest mistake of my life. I mentally linked to Pax and as usual, she responded to me instantly. I quickly explained to her what I had in mind and then waited…
