He would lie if he said he wasn't concerned about Henry's effort.

He saw Henry as lesser James. 

He was less smart, brave, and skillful at managing business. Henry was also easier to control than James simply because he was the son of a prostitute. He understood his position and, thus, had lesser self-confidence and self-worth.

That's why Marlon didn't hesitate to kill James when he knew he had a dumber son he could control.
