After Eric and Katerina had left Nathaniel and Gabriel played a little more while Maya watched them.
He was happy to have both Gabriel and Maya in his home and was heartbroken when Maya declared it was time for them to leave.
"I'll take you guys home," he offered as he grabbed his keys and picked Gabriel up.
"You don't have to keep carrying him, he's old enough to walk on his own," Maya grumbled as Gabriel hugged him tighter.
"I like carrying him," Nathaniel chuckled.
"But he'll ask me to keep carrying him too," Maya grumbled.
Nathaniel gave her a smile and offered her his hand.
She gladly took it and interlaced their fingers. He couldn't help but feel that everything was just right, that everything was perfect as it was.
Both Maya and Gabriel belonged with him and they were supposed to be a family.
"Gabriel, don't give your mom a hard time," Nathaniel whispered to the little boy.
