An hour passed and people aboard the ships now could even see the shoreline of Quel'Thalas, where the only harbor was near the Silvermoon city. Despite goblin crewmen not needing guidance for direction, the ship was still escorted by dragonhawk rider while the other went ahead to report the situation back to the high-ranking. The nearer to the shore, the excitement in the eyes of the elves almost jumped out of their body. Lireesa was also thrilled to view this scenery of homeland. She had been out of contact with her compatriots for nearly a month. Even though, her subordinates were still around her, she found herself, wanting to indulge in someone's hug, who had the ability to soothe her pain and depression. Her friends did not have such methods, because it was, in fact, Lireesa who was protecting them from dangers, shielding them from storms and severe rains.
She wouldn't feel protected by others, even if her friends tried. The only person, she could all have in her mind, was her mother. She trained her, raised her and made her in such a way to who she was today. She now desired to lie down in her mother's arm and enjoyed the feeling of being protected. She missed everything about her. Although, her previous battles consumed her energies to the point of depression and her stringent cautiousness was part of the reasons, she still was convinced, her entire group was very fortunate.
Soon, Lireesa spotted the port where there were very few ships, making it seemed like as if the whole dock was being deserted. However, she also saw a group of elves, apparently waiting for their arrival. Her elf's natural talent, extreme vision, was able to determine the identity of the people, where she also recognized her mother was at the forefront. She was instantly agitated. She longed to be cherished and comforted. If her subordinates and her friends realized Lireesa's inner thoughts, they would definitely be traumatized. They never dared to imagine their leader seeking consolation like a child, which was completed in contrast to the image they had in mind, after experiencing these days. Their cold, elegant and strong captain would have such a day where she was insecure and soft.
Minutes felt like hours and the ship docked at the wharf. As soon as it was stabilized, goblin crewman laid down the wooden board for people to walk through. All these preparations hadn't even ended, they saw one of the elves, a beautiful one who appeared to be leader of this group, jumped over the ship at an unimaginable height and fell like a leaf as if she was one with the breeze. As heiress to the Windrunner house, Lireesa was taught family's secret skills when compared with other rangers. Even though the ancestor of Windrunner founded the ranger professions and spread the knowledge for all other high elves to learn, the family still retained iconic skills such as wind whisper and wind jump. Staunch supporters or followers of Windrunner house could obtain these skills and master the art of lightness.
Before Lireesa landed on the wooden pier, she was instantly hugged by her mother. A sense of security and tenderness filled her heart, sprouting wet tears in her eyes. In order to hide her embarrassment from being seen, Lireesa reached her arm over her mother's slim and strong waist, and returned the hug tightly, her face embedding in her mother's chest. Her mother, naturally, was aware of her daughter's state, as she also felt wetness across her chest. The two never spoke, but their gesture had already said everything needed to say.
At last, her mother, unbearably, choked her words. "Lireesa…My daughter…My only Lireesa….You really know always to worry your mother.." She also sobbed and patted her daughter's back as if the only existence in front of her could relieve her anxiety these days. When news reached her that Lireesa had lost contact and her whereabout unknown, she could only grieve and carry on the responsibility as ranger-general, trying to alleviate the pain and worry in the process. She still had high hopes as the news only mentioned her daughter went missing, even if there was only a slight chance of surviving. "I knew, you would be fine. My daughter is always the best. You never ever disappoint me a single time."
She was very satisfied to see her daughter safe and sound. Her worries had completely gone. She didn't really know in details how her daughter survived out of dangers, but as long as she was in front of her in one piece, she wouldn't care because her daughter would tell her anyway. As someone who had experienced multiple war with trolls, she knew her daughter was capable enough to mitigate such unfavorable situation after checking Lireesa up. Her daughter was her pride now. She could extract her whole team completely, even if her daughter lacked sufficient experience prior to this event. She felt very proud, whenever this idea passed through her head.
"Mom! It's okay. I'm back in one piece." Lireesa replied softly, squeezing her mother's arm after separating from the sensational hug. She looked into her eyes and smiled. "It's your daughter. As Windrunner, how could I not keep up with the name."
Lireesa's mother chuckled at her words and spoke, "I know. You always complete every task I gave you extremely well. It's just been a mother unnerved by your news. I couldn't remain calm until I touch you, my dear. By the way, how's the rest?"
Only after hearing her mother's question, she was relieved and described the situations, including her rangers' level upgrade and her friends' realm improvement. She now had the arrogance to look down on other arm units, as long as her current subordinates followed Lireesa in the future. Current state of her group was that everyone had chances to make a breakthrough and underwent combat experiences which were unreplaceable. It had to be said Lireesa's ranger were now all elite and all of their mentalities went through a slight change, in a better direction. Just when the two dove deep on the connection and forgetting about the surroundings, they heard a slight cough. Stunned for a second, Lireesa and her mother looked toward the source and were quickly embarrassed.
"Madam Alleria and Lady Lireesa are two loving mother and daughters. I'm very please to see your daughter away from danger, Madam." The speaker was the king of Quel'Thalas, wearing a golden crown on his golden blonde hair. His eyes emitted a slight blue brilliance of arcane energy, usually occurred in the archmage, whose levels were extremely powerful, so much so that energies were leaked. He wore a white robe and with decorations to show the royal family demeanor.
Lireesa and her mother lowered their head slightly to pay respect to the leader of high elves. "Your Majesty." The king also saluted back at Lireesa's mother not daring to receive her bow, as he was the younger generation and must maintain the attitude of respect for what she had done for Quel'Thalas since its founding.
Alleria added, "Forgive my ignorance. I really forgot your Majesty at the moment of joy. After all, she is my only daughter and successor of Windrunner House." Alleria Windrunner was ashamed for losing her composure in front of outsiders, especially the ruler of high elves. The king merely, waved his hand kindly to show his magnanimousness and gazed at Lireesa for a while and spoke.
"Madam should spend your time with your daughter on the way. I'll be waiting for you two in Royal court to discuss some situations about the frontline." The king nodded to the two and turned around with elegance. He walked away for several steps and blue dome inscribed with arcane runes appeared around him, teleportation spell. After the light shone brightly, the king disappeared from the sight. Alleria smothered Lireesa hair and looked toward the crowd who appeared on the pier. She thought her eyesight went wrong at first, because she even saw goblins among her daughter's group. When she gawked at the ship carefully and realized full of goblins' handwritings on the ship design, she understood Lireesa must have seeked their helps.
Alleria Windrunner would also not forget her gratitude and repay them for their kindness toward her daughter despite having her doubts on goblins, whose behavior were well known to have no relationship with benevolence and compassion. Although she highly believed the relations with her daughter was likely to be a transaction, Alleria must respond in a considerable manner. As a high elf, each had extreme pride and stuck to their code of conduct strictly, and would not even allow themselves to desecrate their reputations. Besides, she was also one of the Great houses of nobility in Quel'Thalas. Every detail must be paid attention with enough care, because her action represented Quel'Thalas's behavior and attitude. If it wasn't handled meticulously, their diplomacy with foreign races could become an obstacle.
Lireesa watched her mother with an inexplicable expression, wondering how her mother dared to even ignore the current king beside her. She didn't care about the king's attitude toward them afterward and her mother was also the same. Alleria's smile brightened as she gazed at the rest of Lireesa Windrunner's rangers, whose face all shone with smiles and happiness, smelling the soil of homeland. After asking them to take a holiday and rest before preparing for the coming next battles, Lireesa took her mother to introduce arcane mages who had provided immense support during this dangerous expedition on the way escape. She informed her mother how their potion service was definitely a force multiplier and could also a major help in the upcoming war.
She also quietly whispered in her mother's ear about her attempt in recruitment of two female mages, and stated it was a pity. Alleria didn't change her face after hearing this news and was a little surprise at her daughter's try. Lireesa introduced three new rangers for the Windrunner and asked her mother for these three to serve her. Alleria only nodded and didn't care about those recruitment, as her age got older, she wanted to delegate her power to her daughter and decided to retire early. Probably after this war, Lireesa should have enough prestige to take over our Windrunner, Alleria thought.
Finally, when Lireesa felt she had introduced everyone, ignoring the pleading eyes of the old goblin, she hugged her mother across the shoulder to walk away from the dock. Alleria, of course, immediately was aware of her daughter's reluctance or dislike for the goblins, because Lireesa didn't even bother to the goblins to get acquainted with her. However, as a matriarch and high-rank nobles among the elves, it was best for Alleria to not offend others, if necessary, even if her daughter disapproved dealing with goblins.
(Author's note: I never knew Lireesa's mother was also called Alleria Windrunner, until I research about it in order to write this book. Luckily, the two generations didn't exist at the same time. Otherwise, the name will definitely be confused.)
The author's have the outline for each chapter, but couldn't type it out. Don't know what it was affecting the composition energy as if it was all drained.
