章 21: Chapter 21 "A Surprising Encounter"

After 30 minutes, the Magic Thunder Storme spell began to lose its potency, and a sense of tranquility settled over the area. Opening his eyes, Veer beheld a scene of devastation before him. The once lush and dense forest now lay charred and lifeless. A pang of uncertainty struck him. Was it his thunder storm spell that had caused this destruction? However, he found solace in the fact that he had honed his Lightning Body Cultivation Technique, sparing him from the same fate that befell the wolves and trees.

Reflecting on the aftermath, Veer resolved to exercise more caution in the future. He understood the importance of tempering the levels of both his mana and internal energy while employing such potent spells. The potential to harm innocent lives was a stark reminder that he needed to be mindful of his powers. Veer silently thanked his foresight for choosing the forest as the setting for his spell, away from populated areas and potential casualties.

Suddenly, a glimmer caught Veer's eye. Determined, he attempted to rise and investigate the source of the radiance. However, sharp pain surged through his body, impeding his movement. Recalling the source stone he had acquired earlier, a glimmer of hope shone within him. Perhaps its energy could offer respite and healing. Retrieving the source stone of the demon wolf from his bag, Veer initiated the absorption process.

As the energy flowed into him, a remarkable transformation unfolded. Veer's wounds mended with astonishing speed, aided by the potent properties of the source stone. The stone's rapid absorption rate surpassed his expectations, providing him with a much-needed reprieve from pain and injury. Veer marveled at the stone's ability to rejuvenate and expressed deep gratitude for the newfound relief it bestowed upon him.

Hmm... This Rank 1 source stone has healed some of my wounds, but I find myself unable to walk. That glowing object over there must be the source stone of one of those evolving demon wolves. Perhaps the effects of my thunder storm spell caused its transformation to halt. Veer contemplated to himself.

Having regained his composure, Veer noticed a source stone lying about 10 meters away from him. It belonged to a demon wolf on the brink of evolution.

"I don't need to physically approach it. I can retrieve it using my mental strength. However, I'll need to do something about my attire as well since my battle suit has been completely burnt," Veer thought. He pondered whether he could extract source stones from the rest of the demon wolf's body.

If this were to come true, Veer realized that he would become quite wealthy. With determination in his heart, he closed his eyes and extended his mental prowess. The range of his mental power was limited to a radius of 30 meters. As his mental awareness expanded, Veer could envision everything within this radius in his mind's eye. To his surprise, he discovered a plethora of source stones—around 25 in total—scattered nearby.

"This is the source stone of those wolves. Come to me," Veer commanded with a gesture, causing all the source stones within a 30-meter radius to soar into the sky and converge towards him. As Veer opened his eyes, he beheld the sight of approximately 25 source stones hovering before him. "I knew my mental capacity couldn't exert more than 3 tons of force, but manipulating objects with it is still comfortable," Veer remarked to himself.

Amongst the collection of source stones, Veer noticed one that stood out. It had a faint yellow glow, signifying its importance.

"Ah, so this is the source stone," Veer realized. "The one that emitted a radiant shine earlier might have been the leader of those formidable creatures, on the verge of ranking up before meeting its demise,"

Veer surmised, wincing as he attempted to stand. The strain on his muscles reminded him of his injuries.

"Gah! It still hurts," Veer exclaimed, deciding to store the remaining source stones in his bag for now. However, he knew that this particular source stone should be utilized to enhance his power. Rarely encountered, it possessed abundant source energy that could greatly benefit both his mana and internal energy.

"This might be the key to my own rank advancement," Veer contemplated, recognizing the tremendous potential it held.

Veer opened his bag, which miraculously still functioned despite being charred by the lightning. He carefully placed the collected source stones inside and prepared to leave the area. His normal speed was 24 m/s, but due to his injuries, his pace reduced to 18 m/s.

"I don't have the strength to simultaneously utilize both my mana and internal energy. Doing so would exhaust me quickly," Veer acknowledged, aware of his limitations.

Remaining in this location for too long was unwise. If a powerful monster happened upon the scene, drawn by the commotion, Veer knew he would be ill-prepared to face it. Thus, he started running, heading towards a forest camp area labeled as "055," glimpsed during his dash. Veer extended his psychic sphere, drawing the source stones from the demon wolves he had slain. One by one, the source stones descended into his bag, adding to his growing collection.

In the distance, Veer spotted a group of humans running towards him. Among them, he recognized two familiar faces—one of whom he had encountered once before in the Battle Mages Alliance. This individual had attempted to strike up a conversation with Veer previously, but at that time, Veer was deep in meditation and unable to respond. The unexpected sight of this person here and now surprised Veer, stirring a mix of curiosity and relief within him.

The other person in the group was Karv, who Veer presumed had ventured to the 055 forest camp area to assist him. A wave of relief washed over Veer as he saw Karv unharmed. In a world where true friends were scarce, Veer cherished their presence and was grateful not to have lost them.

The group spotted Veer and began conversing amongst themselves, concern etched on their faces.

"Oh, should we assist this individual? Judging by his condition, it seems he managed to escape from those wolves," one person remarked.
