Twelve years later.
"Magdalene!. Get up, you lazy thing" Granny yelled angrily as she pinched the young girl cheek.
Magdalene groaned and rubbed her cheeks.
"It's gonna turn red" She complained to the old woman who used a Cain to support herself.
Like the wind twelve years had gone by, with every single year that passes Magdalene becomes more beautiful. It only got the village maiden's more jealous and hateful. Magdalene had grown pass the stage where she would cry and feel bad at every single word being thrown to her. She was now a stunning beauty with lots of talent.
Magdalene washed up and wore a grey gothic dress and a black Victorian booth. She plaited her hair in two pig braids and made her way to the living room.
"Good morning Papa" She said to Gaius.
" Morning Magdalene" he replied and patted her hair.
"I wonder why a girl would choose to be a physician instead of a seamstress, or an artist perhaps a theater actress, a singer or dancer. Magdalene what sort of a child are you" The nagging voice of her mother Patricia said angrily.
Indeed women would study art, painting, music or better still the privileged one's would become governess but Magdalene chose the weirdest career path. For seven years she had been by the physician Apollo side learning herbs and medicines, her love to treat people was something no one could explain.
Her obsession for tonic and portions made the villagers firm in their beliefs of her being a witch. Only witches created portions, poisons and toxics.
"Let the girl do what she wants" Gaius defended making Patricia rolled her eyes.
Magdalene knew deep down that Patricia had never liked her even if she didn't treat her bad or well. The way Patricia conversed with Granny , Annabelle and Gaius was different with her. The family of four had a striking resemblance of black hair and black eyes, Magdalene looks were far off from them, their was no resemblance at all.
" Have breakfast before you leave" Annabelle said with a warm smile.
"No, I'll grab something at the food street" Magdalene answered before picking her small basket and she left the cottage.
The villagers always stared strangely at her like always, but that didn't stop the girl from being cheerful.
"Morning sir Gareth" She greeted the old shoe maker as she passed his shop.
"Morning Maggie" He replied with a smile. He's the only one who seemed to think nicely of the girl.
Magdalene walked for a while because no carriage was willing to carry a witch as they say. She didn't feel bad because she was used to it. After trekking a distance, a carriage finally stopped to carry her, even though it was an old carriage. She rode to the big town the houses were a lot better than those in the village. She got out of the carriage and gave the Coach man some penny.
She walked into the ever busy town that presently looked quite dull and strange. Many people were sad and were Mourning. She wondered what misfortune had taken place.
"Excuse me good sir" She said to a half vampire, she could tell he wasn't a pure blooded from his dull eyes, The pure blooded vampires had dark red eyes and they lived in the most richest part of the town since they were in the top hierarchy.
The man turned towards the extremely pretty face that had tapped him before answering.
"How may I help you milady".
"What's happening in the town today" She asked.
"There's a plague killing people mysteriously. Many people died this morning that's why the town looks this way" He explained to her.
Magdalene nodded understandingly and went straight to Apollo inn. The town were mostly filled with vampires why humans occupied the villages, only rich and middle class humans lived in the town's. The two creatures avoided themselves and stayed in their lane to avoid trouble as cases of vampires feeding from human was too common.
In the woods they were cases of rogue demons feeding from any creatures, in the forest they were cases of black witches killing humans for ritual purposes, and at night they were cases of the night creatures. Magdalene shrugged at how complicated the world was, having a peaceful coexistence was equal to zero. Only the white witches, normal demons and vampires lived with people, but it still didn't guaranteed a peaceful coexistence.
She knocked on Apollo inn and Phillip opened the wooden doors.
The human boy blushed seeing the pretty face he was secretly in love with.
"Hi Phillip where's Apollo." She asked her fellow apprentice who happened to be Apollo son.
"He's studying about the new cases" The Young man replied.
"Are you okay, your face is burning red" She asked making him blush harder.
"No. Just a slight cold" he replied.
"Are you sure it's just a cold, Phillip?. Morning Magdalene" Apollo interrupted and his son shot him a glare.
"Morning Apollo. What is it that I hear?" She asked him.
"There's a deadly plague that had striked the town. The Lord has sent messages to all physician in Euphoria Empire" The Apollo replied.
"Is it that bad" She asked and he nodded.
"The victims decay immediately" He replied.
