These people exhausted me.
The fear and healing did, too.
Even though I was walking without pain now, I still felt like I was dragging a boulder behind me by the end of the day. It occurred to me that if my young body and mind were struggling, Agatha must be really pushing herself. And even though I was still on the fence about whether she liked me or not, I knew she meant a lot to David. I made a mental note to talk to Mardie and see if there was something they could do to make her more comfortable.
But as I dragged myself back to my rooms after dinner, my heart was the heaviest part of my body. I hadn't had a chance for any time with David at all. He had even been called away from dinner that night before we had finished the meal.
