章 7: Chapter 7

"Geodude, the rock pokémon," Bob listened in on what the Pokédex had to say, "whenever it sleeps deeply, it submerges itself in the ground and won't wake up even if a hiker stepped on it,"

Bob nodded in acknowledgement as he went to see its moves.

'Four moves?' He thought, surprised, 'Only rollout is an attacking rock type move, so maybe this Geodude is smart,'

Then, he thought about using said pokémon.

'In the games, it's not as good as many other pokémon, with its two times four weaknesses,' Bob thought, staring at the screen, 'but this is not the games, and it is a good pokémon for my situation,'

Soon, he found out on the Pokédex that the Geodude was a male.

The signs on the Pokédex made sure of that.

Bob never actually noticed this, as he was more focused on their moves before, but it was a reminder of how reliable a Pokédex is.

Putting away the device, Bob came across a patch of tall grass.

He knew what he had to do.

As Bob bustled through the grass, he can across a Spinarak.

'Know what, I'll put Geodude into the mix,'

So with a throw, Geodude was brought out.

"Geodude!" He cried, readying himself.

"Spinarak!" Spinarak said as well, spewing out a string of silk, slowing down the rock type's movement.

"Rollout, now,"

Geodude was quick to act.

With some strain, he was able to break through the web while spinning on the spot. Once free, he shot off.

The hit on the Spinarak was clean as it screamed in pain.

Once Geodude rolled back, he was surprised to feel pretty heavy, even heaving, which Bob could hear.

Bob looked ahead and saw green orbs floating towards the Spinarak.

'Absorb? Did him pretty good,' He thought but began to think.

It was a special move from what Bob remembered. Since the physical moves do make contact, Absorb should've not hit him when Spinarak made contact. So Bob tried to formulate a plan.

"Geodude, don't go straight," Bob said, which to his alarm, Geodude nodded, "then use Rollout,"

While Bob scratched in his bag, the rock type went to rolling.

Spinarak saw this and prepared an Absorb.

"Geodude!" Geodude said, rolling forward.

His linear pattern went in line with Spinarak's attack. When the bug type used Absorb, it regained some energy.

Though, this time, it did not.

It watched as this boulder was going in a sidewinder movement, rolling past the supposed trap.

Only one could be placed at this time, so Geodude had no trouble slamming into Spinarak once more.

It fell back. Not getting up.

So Bob quickly threw a pokéball at it, capturing it...

CLICK!

Another pokémon was caught.

As Bob placed the pokéball in his bag he opened the Pokédex.

"Spinarak, the string spit pokémon," the voice spoke, "the webs it creates can often be hailed as its second nervous system."

Returning Geodude, Bob closed the Pokédex, 'I better get to Violet City. I need a Pokécenter,'

Then, his stomach rumbled.

'Crap, now I need to wait until tomorrow,' He thought, holding his stomach as he walked forward, following the trail and avoiding the tall grass.

After a long walk, which felt longer with an empty stomach, Bob reached Violet City.

It reminded him a lot of Cherrygrove, though it looked a little bigger with more businesses than houses.

Speaking of which, the Pokécentre caught his eye easily, probably to compensate for all the other buildings.

With that, Bob walked in.

He saw Nurse Joy at the counter, but it was likely a different one.

"Hello, and welcome to our pokémon centre," She greeted, bowing, "What can I do for you?"

Soon, Bob's eyes lit up, and took out six pokéballs.

"Can you heal my pokémon, please?" He asked, looking around.

"Of course," She replied, placing a tray down, "put them in this tray,"

Bob did, and Nurse Joy walked away.

Now, Bob was looking around and saw a computer to his right.

'Bullseye,' He thought, walking to it.

It looked pretty old, but Bob was not intimidated by it.

He looked down at the keyboard and saw a power button. He pressed it.

The screen lit up and showed a blue background with the message:

'Poké Storage'

'Item Storage'

Bob placed his hand on the mouse and moved the cursor to the first option.

The next thing that popped up was a mirror or a reflection of Bob.

Before he could react, the message 'profile complete' appeared.

'Did it make a profile for me?' He thought, watching it load, 'That's cool,'

A square appeared, with two options:

'Deposit Pokémon'

'Withdraw Pokémon'

It was rather interesting, so Bob clicked again on the first option.

What next appeared was a vertical row of six blocks. Each with a sprite of a pokémon.

'Okay, that's cool,' Bob thought, hovering the cursor over Caterpie and Weedle, 'I must pull them out, right?'

With another two clicks, the bugs were moved to a bigger box that covered most of the screen. It was the first, but Bob could see the option that added more.

'That was easy,' He thought, moving the cursor to the bottom of the screen, where a 'shut down' option was, 'now let's switch it off,'

A click and the screen switched off.

Bob walked back to the counter and waited for Nurse Joy. She appeared a moment later with the tray of pokéballs in her hands.

"Your pokémon have been healed," She said in a happy tone.

"Thank you," Bob replied, picking up all six of them and walking to the trainer rooms.

'I wonder if Caterpie and Weedle were healed, or were they pulled in the middle of that?' Bob thought, 'Well, Nurse Joy didn't seem to notice, so I wouldn't know,'

He entered one of the rooms, sighing that it was empty, but groaning because of his empty stomach.

Bringing out his pokémon did not look like a priority for Bob right now, as his hunger made him irritable, and he just did not want to deal with pokémon at that moment.

Then, he looked into his bag again.

Luckily, after scratching for how long, checking every end and side, there was a bit of money that he didn't grab.

He celebrated as if he had won the lottery.

Putting on his bag once more, Bob headed out for the Pokémart.

'It's a good thing they sell food for trainers as well,' He thought, seeing the building, 'though I wonder where they get the meat from?'

Walking past the automatic doors, Bob strolled down the aisles, looking for a purchasable snack.

He also saw an aisle of health potions and other items.

His insides wrapped into a knot, 'Next time, I should not just buy pokéballs,'

After finding a packet of sandwiches, he reached the counter.

Bob waited impatiently as he handed over the money, grabbed the packet, and darted to the entrance.

As he exited, a girl walked past him.

The only reason Bob glanced at her for a second time, was that she looked familiar.

'That must be the girl,' He thought, walking away, 'not that I care, I'm hungry!'

He sat at a nearby bench and took out a slice of the sandwich.

On it was lettuce, cheese, and some type of meat. Either way, Bob took a big bite into it and chewed.

'Tastes like beef,' He thought, swallowing it with enjoyment, 'so there is a pokémon that tastes like beef? Hmm,'

For a few minutes, he quietly and slowly ate his food, enjoying and savoring every bite.

Something about it hit close to earth, and he enjoyed that.

With the last bite, he threw away the packet in a nearby bin and dusted himself off.

'Now I feel like sleeping,' He thought, starting to walk, 'trainer room, here I come!'

Just as he said that an uncomfortable feeling hit his side.

But, he frowned.

'Oh, come on!'
