Cael mused that these gods didn't have to care for his opinion at all, nor did they have an obligation to inform Cael of anything. Any information they spared was a pure charity on their part.

Because they were gods. They had the power to create and destroy life as they wanted.

"If you really cared for your creations, the Twilight Twins, then you wouldn't have left this world. You would've been there to save it now, to guard it from any invaders," Cael said bitterly. "How much of your care is just vanity?"

The statues stayed silent. When Cael looked under the cup of the chalice, he saw their eyes were dim and inert again. The divine presence left them—or at least, hid somewhere.

'Great. They didn't even tell me to shut my mouth—they just left entirely. A lion doesn't have to care about the opinions of the sheep, hm?'
