章 21: The Drowned part 3
I can't believe what's happening. I'm lying on the ground, stunned, watching my friend Rei fight against a man wielding electric tridents. She's wielding a bow and a stone sword, trying to protect me.
But I can see the fear in her eyes, the strain on her body as she dodges and parries his attacks. She's doing everything she can to keep me safe, to give me enough time to recover.
I took this opportunity and used as much strength as I could muster to pull out a golden apple that I crafted earlier, and ate it quickly.
I slowly started to recover and felt like I was able to move again! Kai slammed Rei into the ground and began to head back in my direction, I look up noticing Kai about to strike me down while on the ground.
I somersault backward and go for a counterattack with my iron sword, but he deflects my attack with the pole of his trident.
I didn't get electrocuted during that impact, so either the channeling only works with the fork of the weapon or only activates when Kai goes for an attack.
I slashed downward toward Kai, but this time he jumped away to the left and trusted at me with his trident.
I pulled out a shield only a few moments before impact, and I was pushed back a little from the force, jeez those things packed a punch!
Wait a minute, I didn't experience any shock upon impact. Maybe wooden tools don't conduct the channeling enchantment as much as ore-themed weapons? If it got me this far, I might as well try!
I thought up a wooden sword and took it out of my inventory, I can't believe I still have this in here, I really need to find a way to look into my inventory!
I thrust the wooden sword to parry Kai's Trident and shield to stop his other, I didn't feel any electricity.
I know I can't do THAT much with wooden weapons, but if my iron sword is useless in this situation.
"Is this some kind of joke?" Kai said as he looked at me looking with humiliation
"If it works, it works!" I replied
"Then let's see how long that lasts!"
Kai proceeded to jab his tridents at me with rapid consecutive speed, I had to go on the defense, blocking everything he threw at me with my wooden weapons.
I was able to negate the electricity, but that doesn't mean I can't be affected by the blunt impaling attacks being thrust towards me.
*Snap!!!*
I jump backward in fear, my sword and shield are broken, honestly, I shouldn't be surprised. Wooden weapons always had low durability, heck I think I haven't used that thing since my first night in this world!
This is bad, my only other weapon on me is my Iron sword, and that weapon is practically useless in this situation.
Gotta think fast, besides wood, what else would negate me from touching electricity? Hmm, THAT'S it!!!
I sprinted over to Rei who was trying to recover.
"You okay?" I asked as I helped her to her feet
"Just a scratch!"
"I have a plan that can put me on par with him, I just need some time!"
"Hmm, you got it!" Rei said as she took out a potion of harming to drink for health.

As I created a crafting table, I began to work on my recipe. Rei unsheathed her stone sword and charged at Kai.
In response, he knocked her down with a hard side swing from one of his tridents, but even as she falls, I see the determination in her eyes.
She knows what's at stake, knows how much we need to make it out of this alive.
With one last burst of energy, she manages to unleash a cascade of arrows at Kai, driving him back and giving me just enough time to finish my new tool!
As Rei fell to the floor, I collected my new weapon and tried to run to her location, but I was blocked by Kai.
"I'm done playing around here, time to get rid of the obstacles!" he said as he was about to impale her in the head.
"STOP!!!" I shouted causing him to pause
"Make me!!!" Kai taunted as he hovered the fork of his trident over Rei's head
I thrust my new sword in Kai's direction, and he easily blocks it with his trident, and we clash hard, however, I'm not getting shocked on impact.
"Hmm? What do you have here?"
I flashed a smile "A new weapon of mine, The 'Copper sword!'"
"Something that allows you to touch my tridents huh? Well, that won't help you for long!" Kai said as he walked away from Rei to focus on fighting me.
This copper sword did around the same damage as an iron one, however, copper swords are slower to wield than iron, but to make up for it, copper swords can absorb electricity.
This weapon will be a lot more reliable to make up for its lack of speed. I just hope it will be enough to match Kai, for this is my last resort!

I circled cautiously, watching as Kai twirled the tridents in his hands. Suddenly, he lunged forward, electricity shooting out from the tridents.
I barely managed to dodge out of the way, feeling the heat of the electric bolts grazing my skin.
I counterattacked with a swift swing of my sword, but he parried it easily with both tridents. We continued to battle, each of us trying to find an opening in the other's defenses.
I feinted to the left and then swung from the right, catching him off guard. He stumbled back, giving me the perfect opportunity to strike.
I lunged forward, my sword glinting in the moonlight. I was able to stab him a little in the torso, but it wasn't going deep enough to defeat him, he spun around, tridents flashing.
Electricity surged from them, hitting me square in the chest and knocking me to the ground. My muscles spasmed as the electric shock coursed through my body.
I struggled to stand, my arms feeling heavy as I raised my sword once more. I had to continue fighting, had to keep going no matter what!
"Just give up already, you're completely out of options!" Kai said as he slowly walked towards me, holding his flesh wound from the impact of my copper sword.
Despite the pain coursing through my chest, all I could do was flash a smile and raise up my weapon. We were both injured but had the determination to keep fighting.
"I could do this all night!" I said
Kai grinned behind his mask "Hit me with your best shot then-GAH!"
An arrow had pierced Wallice in this shoulder blade, he turned around quickly to see Rei with her bow in hand.
"I-Iff she's not giving up, I w-won't either!"
Kai had completely lost his patience "****** off stupid skeleton!!!" He said as he ignored me and charged straight at Rei with both tridents in hand.
Knowing what he was doing, my body acted on its own, I didn't know what I was doing!!! Why was I putting myself in more danger than I was already!?!?!
The next thing I knew, I was racing even faster than Kai was moving, and put myself between the two of them.
I blocked one of his tridents with my copper sword, but unfortunately, his second trident pierced through my side with a sickening squelch, and I felt myself falling to the ground.
Pain lances through me, and I struggle to breathe as Kai advances on us once again. But through the haze of agony, I manage to focus on Rei, urging her to escape before it's too late.
"Go," I gasp out, holding back tears of agony. "Get out of here. We both don't have to die, it's just me he wants!"
"You might as well listen to the Otherworlder!" Kai said, "It'd be a real shame if this sacrifice goes to waste!"
Rei doesn't waver. With a fierce look in her eyes, she stands up and turns to face Kai once more.
"I wouldn't want to live with myself if I let a second otherworlder get killed!" She armed herself with her stone sword again
"Especially now!" Rei concluded
"NO!"
"Suit yourself, I think I gave you more than enough chances here!"
*whoosh*
Kai dropped his trident and had to catch something flying at his face.
"Woah, another arrow?"
I turned my head, and I saw some people with bows, 3 in one spot, but there were even more running to our location, 2 to the north, 1 to the far right of Kai, and 2 more on the hill by the cave, there were 8 reinforcements so far!
Everyone I saw had different appearances like hair style, body type, facial features, etc.
However, there was one trait that they all shared, and that was the fact that they all had a white hair color similar to Rei's, they were all skeleton people, never thought I'd see so many in one place!
I knew why they were here because of the firework signal Rei had shot off a while back, they made it just in time!
