"Round 2...Begin!"
Drednaw immediately used [Rock Polish] while Wartortle used another [Work Up]. The indigo turtle knew their fight would be much more physical than strategic. It made sure to buff itself up for the confrontation, and sure enough, as soon as [Rock Polish] took effect, the armoured turtle charged forward.
"The f*ck?" Misty could not help but exclaim while Aeron shared the same expression as her. One moment Drednaw was some distance away from Wartortle, and the next moment it was upon it. Despite its colossal size, the armoured turtle was stupidly fast.
But unlike Misty, who hadn't seen Drednaw's Ability, Aeron knew that the [Rain Dance] had increased its speed. [Swift Swim] was a remarkable ability many Water-type Trainers loved to have in their Pokémon. Moreover, [Rock Polish] further increased its speed.
Without letting Wartortle recover from shock, Drednaw opened its strong jaws and used [Crunch]. It threw the indigo turtle in the air and followed it with a [Rock Tomb].
Rock-type Energy gathered around Drednaw before large boulders were created in the air, then aimed toward Wartortle. However, the indigo turtle would not let the battle be one-sided. After its initial shock of Drednaw's speed and [Crunch], it immediately used [Withdraw] to defend itself.
Bang
Drednaw frowned when Wartortle came out of that clash with fewer injuries than it had expected. Moreover, the indigo turtle seemed to be healing a little as time passed.
"If your [Ability: Swift Swim] makes you fast, Wartortle [Ability: Rain Dish] gives it more endurance," Misty spoke when she saw the armoured turtles frown. Although, the Pokémon had guessed as much as well.
"We just need to make sure you can no longer heal," Nessa said confidently, and Aeron could see the atmosphere around her change. This was the first time he had seen Nessa like this, but he could guess why.
Even though weak, Nessa was a former Gym Leader and shared a deep bond with her Drednaw. She had been through thick and thin with her Pokémon; they both had absolute confidence in each other, similar to how Axew was to Aeron.
"Naw!" The giant turtle agreed before it roared and charged forward.
Wartortle did not sit idle and use [Rapid Spin]. Both Pokémon knew using Water-type moves would be futile, and thus they relied on their other [Moves]. But just as the indigo turtle was about to slam into Drednaw, the latter jumped in the air before slamming down.
"WAR!"
Wartortle cried as Drednaw pressed it down with a [Body Slam].
"Now use [Gastro Acid]," Nessa commanded her Drednaw, who immediately spat a mouthful of acid on the Wartortle pressed under its body.
"Shit." Misty frowned as she knew the [Gastro Acid] had rendered her Pokémon's Ability useless. But instead of panicking, she gave a command herself. "Use [Withdraw] and then [Aqua Ring]."
"Oh, are you trying to hide like a chicken?" Nessa made sure to taunt Misty with the exact words the orange-haired girl had used.
"It's called a strategical retreat." Misty did not mind her words and remained focused on the battle. But unlike how she had expected, it was more challenging.
At the same time Misty had ordered her Pokémon to use [Withdraw] and [Aqua Ring], and Nessa used that opportunity to call out for her next attack.
"[Meteor Beam]."
"Are you kidding me?" Misty planned to hide and heal while waiting for the effects of [Gastro Acid] to run out. However, Nessa's command had left her shocked.
"Thanks for giving us the time to prepare." Nessa grinned as she knew Wartortle could not stop [Aqua Ring] mid-cast, giving her Drednaw enough time to prepare a [Meteor Beam].
"Fire it up!"
"Naw!" Drednaw, who had gathered energy for the [Meteor Beam] in front of its mouth, fired it at Wartortle at point-blank range.
BOOM
The [Meteor Beam] created a large pit where it was fired, sending out dust clouds everywhere. Axew immediately stood before Aeron and other Pokémon destroying any rocks flying their way.
"Good job!" Aeron gave it a head pat before he looked toward the girls and sighed. "That was close." As the dust cloud settled, the only Pokémon that remained standing was Drednaw, while Misty recalled Wartortle. "Misty recalled her Pokémon; Drednaw is the winner. Choose your next Pokémon."
"How was that?" Nessa asked while shooting a smirk toward Misty, who could say nothing other than twitch her lips.
The orange-haired girl took a deep breath before she took out a Pokeball and called out her Pokémon. "Nayla, time to wreck."
"GRAAAA!"
The sea-serpent roared at the top of its lungs before it glared towards the giant armoured turtle.
"NAWWWW!" Drednaw roared back, not intimidated, even though it knew the opponent was stronger than it.
Misty looked at her friend before asking. "You guys still have some juice left in you?"
"You sure you want wanna do that?" Nessa asked, and the orange-haired girl gave the command.
"Nayla, [Hyper Beam], full power."
"Drednaw, [Meteor Beam], full power."
"Wait, seriously?" Aeron could not keep calm anymore as the girls used some of the strongest [Moves]. They were planning to settle this in one all-out attack. "Back off!"
He led the other Pokémon and immediately backed away from the battle area. Larvesta, Growlithe and Horsea immediately agreed while Axew frowned, refusing to run away.
"Axe?" Aeron called out to the Dragon, who shook its head.
"Axew!"
"You cannot take aftermath!" He scolded the Dragon, who was stubborn, but Axew once again shook its head.
"Axe, Axew Axe!"
Aeron could not reply to those words.
Why did that stupid serpent not use that attack when fighting it but did it readily against that giant turtle? Axew knew it was much weaker than that stupid sea serpent, but it did not want to admit it. It could not accept weakness.
"Axew Axe!"
Back off? It was the same as running away!
Aeron frowned as he noticed the stubbornness of the Dragon, something Axew had been showing a lot lately when it came to fights or getting stronger. Every dragon was like that...but Aeron knew that even the aftermath of those attacks would be devastating. Even though both Gyarados and Drednaw would not go all out, just that much would be enough to injure any Pokémon seriously.
"Return."
Aeron took out his Pokeball and returned both Growlithe and Larvesta before calling out to Nessa.
"Are you sure?" She recalled Horsea back to its Pokeball, leaving only Axew and Aeron behind.
"Yes."
"Axew..." The Dragon turned around to look at Aeron...
"Don't say anything." Aeron put on the game face and pointed at the two giants about to clash. "Focus!"
*Flash*
*Flash*
Aeron's Pokeballs opened before Growlithe and Larvesta appeared before him.
"Lar..." The Torch Pokémon nodded to Aeron before it stood behind Axew.
"Wrrrr!" Growlithe let out a muffled roar as it looked at the distorted wind. The power behind those two [Moves] was making the air berserk while the trees swayed left and right.
"I am sorry." Aeron sighed, knowing he was in the wrong. Did he trust Axew more than Growlithe and Larvesta? Were they, not his team?
"Ta!"
"Woof!"
The two Fire-types smiled before the team got ready.
"Here it comes." Aeron looked at the two giants who were ready with their attacks.
"Nayla, let it out!"
"Drednaw, fire!"
"ROOOOOAR!"
"NAWWWWW!"
*WOOSH*
Two beams of energy were fired, and they collided with each other at full force. Both Pokémon sent almost the same amount of power behind those beams. However, they started letting out more and more, trying to push the opponent. It did not take long before all the power behind those energies was concentrated in the centre before turning into a giant sphere.
Aeron, Nessa and Misty looked at it; only one word came to their minds.
Fuck
BOOOOOOOM
The energy sphere exploded, destroying everything around. The ground was sent to oblivion while the trees were uprooted and blown away. A mushroom cloud appeared in the air that attracted the attention of many wild Pokémon, but none dared to get close. It took more than ten minutes for the energy waves and dust clouds to settle. However, the chaotic wind still blew around the area.
*Cough* *Cough* *Cough*
Aeron coughed out the dust before he looked at the aftermath of the two attacks. A few meter-deep pit was created where Gyarados and Drednaw battled while all the trees nearby were uprooted from the ground. The purplish energy surrounded him, Larvesta and Growlithe, but the two Pokémon were already unconscious.
He withdrew his Psychic Energy that protected them three before looking at Axew, who took everything head-on. The dragon was seriously injured; its two tusks had broken, which had not happened in a long time. It was panting for breath but did not let out even a wince from the pain.
Turning his eyes toward the battlefield, Aeron saw the Drednaw plopped to the ground, unconscious. On the other side, the beautiful sea serpent stood proudly, looking down at its defeated opponent.
"GYARAAAAAA!"
It let out a roar of victory before turning toward the spectators. Its eyes landed on Axew, looking at it with a slight smirk. Even though the Dragon was on its last legs, the fire burning in its eyes only told the sea-serpent one thing.
Just wait.
"Axe...Xew..."
With one last f*ck you, Axew dropped to the ground, falling unconscious.
Aeron recalled all the Pokémon back to their Pokeballs before announcing the results. "Drednaw is unable to battle; Gyarados is the winner. Victory goes to Misty Williams."
"RAAAA!"
Gyarados let out another [Hyper Beam] into the air, celebrating its victory before it coiled around Misty, who gently patted its head.
"Good job Nayla!"
"Ra."
On the other side, Nessa withdrew Drednaw back to the Pokeball and looked at her friend. "That was fun!"
"I know, right?"
"We should do it again."
"Ra!" The sea serpent agreed. Gyarados was a simple Pokémon. It destroys... it's happy.
"You both need to calm down." Aeron walked toward the girls, who finally turned toward him.
"How was it?" Misty asked with a bright smile, puffing her chest in victory.
"You did great." He patted her head, followed by Gyarados, who silently eyed Axew's Pokeball.
"Ra!" It immediately looked away.
"It's okay if you are worried." Nessa grinned at Gyarados's actions causing the sea serpent to glare at her.
"But I never expected this," Aeron spoke in a serious tone as he eyed the destruction caused by a fight between an S-Class and an A-class Pokémon. Moreover, Gyarados hadn't even gone all out yet. 'I am amazed humans are even alive.' He thought to himself. 'I understand the weaker Pokémon, but how can trainers control the powerful ones while also not getting killed by the aftermaths of the [Moves] from their own Pokémon?'
Those were his genuine thoughts. He did not understand.
"We should heal your Pokémon." Misty reminded before she called back her Gyarados, who did not forget to glance at Axew's Pokeball one last time. "Nayla is such a tsundere when it comes to Axe."
"Let's find a different spot to camp and rest." Aeron sighed before looking at the map for any nearby resting spots. "Let's go here. It will get us closer to Pewter City, and we can rest here while healing our Pokémon."
He walked away, and the two girls looked at each other before Misty gave her a smirk while silently whispering to Nessa.
"I won the bet."
"Hmph! I will get you next time."
"Not so fast. But don't you dare renege on the bet?"
"You think I am such a terrible person?"
"When it comes to him? Yes."
"You!"
"We good?"
"Yes!" x2
