章 69: Chapter 69: Simon's Sweetheart

"Now listen to me real good Mr. Riley. I don't care how much you were being offered, but I want you to leave Paige Patterson alone. She deserve to be happy. She doesn't deserve people like you." Simon said almost choking with painful emotions. His feelings were hightened as this has to do with Paige, his sweetheart. "I'll make a payment into your bank account. A double of whatever they are giving you. I am in a good mood today. So, do not expect this version of me again. Take the money and disappear. Make sure I don't set my eyes on you ever again. Understood?"

"Yes sir, yes sir. You won't see me again." Stefan replied happily though still afraid. He was happy he was getting paid either way and he was also afraid that two guns were still pointed at him.

"You will get the money before sun down." Simon told him and when you get it, kindly pick up the few rags you have here and disappear. Mr. Riley, this is for your own good." I hope you understand?" He asked again.

"I do Sir." Stefan replied.

"Good." Simon said standing up. He patted Stefan at the back. "You love money so much Mr. Riley, I just hope it won't be your doom. If I'm you, I will invest this one. Cause more ain't coming. And if you dare me by going behind my back," he smiled wickedly. "You won't live to tell the story." Simon told him before leaving the room followed by Bruce and lastly Charles.

"Congratulations Mr. Riley, you're now a millionaire. Who would have thought." Charles said on getting to the door. He turned back to look at him. "My eyes are on you Riley. Any funny move, your blood will spill." Charles said smiling wickedly before stepping out of the room.  Seeing that he was all alone, Stefan smiled happily. Who would have thought that Paige knew or she's connected to such a wealthy and cheerful giver. To him, he just secured a steady source of income. In a minute, he seemed to have forgotten that two pistols were pointed at him just moments ago. That is indeed the money effect. "This is a good investment." He thought to himself. If he is persistent enough, he'll probably get Paige's attention in no time and he'll make his move, if Simon is serious about not wanting him around Paige, definitely he'll spare more money. Stefan thought with a wicked smile not a bit bothered about Simon's identity. "Those guns could be toys for all I care." He mummured not believing that someone could pass the hotel security with a real gun.

Paige woke up after a terrible night rest. After her beauty prep the previous day, she came back home to meet Simon's absence and as usual, nobody could tell her where he went to. Unfortunately Bruce who would have been helpful to her left with him. She was then left with the annoying looking guards who hardly say a word to anyone unless prompted to and to worsen the matter, they usually know nothing except security related matters. Their usual answer to anything not related to the house security is always "No idea ma'am". So, she didn't bother asking them a thing.

Sherman was good at describing when and the manner at which a person left the house. He'd give you all the details but will always end up not knowing where they went to. So, he was the only one that told Paige that Simon left hurriedly and seemed angry as well.  Nicon was the worst person to ask of Simon's whereabouts as well cause he would never discuss his boss with anyone unless he needed to.

She kept trying Simon's cellphone but, it was not reachable. Dinner that night was just her in the big dinning hall with Sherman and the maids waiting on her. When she could not bear their stare anymore, she requested that they excuse her as she needed privacy. After dinner, she spent all evening waiting for Simon and most of the night wide awake hoping to hear his car horn or footsteps just to be sure he returned home but she heard none and he didn't return to the Mansion all through the night. Having stayed up all night, in the early hours of the morning and against her will, nature took its full cause forcing her into a deep sleep that she ended up waking up from at mid day. It was four minutes by the hour of twelve when Paige woke up from sleep. Seeing the bedside clock, she sprang up from bed and staggered blindly to the bathroom still feeling sleepy.

Once inside the bathroom, she switched on the water heater. Facing the ash and white spotted marble sink, she carried out her oral care. She had thought of rushing her shower but on second thought, she changed her mind. She will be paying a visit to the Tedson's in less than five hours from now. So, if she was going to take a shower, it was best she took her time. If she ever decide on taking another one later in the day, then it would be okay to rush that particular one.

After her oral care, she remembered her cellphone. "Oh, Frankie would have called me severally." She said rushing inside to get her phone and just as she anticipated, she missed several calls from him. Her keypad tones beeped continuously as she dialed his number in a bid to return his calls. On the second ring, Frankie picked up and Paige reassured him that she was well explaining everything that happened without mentioning Simon's name at all. After the call, she went back to the bathroom for a warm shower.

While bathing, her stomach growled heavily as a sign of hunger. "Uhhhh." Paige sighed sadly. In no time at all, she was done with bathing and she threw over a short loose satin dress and hurried downstairs for breakfast. She have already prepared her mind for a solo breakfast since Simon didn't return home last night. She wondered if he will be home on time to attend the Tedson's anniversary. "Maybe I should have given Frankie a  hint about this." She thought within herself as she made her way down the stairs. If Simon wouldn't be around, then it was either he had something so important to attend to or he was just being a baby by staying mad at her for a flimsy reason. Either way, she ought to inform Frankie that she might need a ride. She thought. "I'd prefer Frankie sends a car than let Nicon drive me. That way I wouldn't be bothering Simon and his property." She thought.

Just as she was making it down the staircase, she saw Simon climbing up carefully carrying a tray of food with him. "Hey." He called on seeing her.

"Hey." Paige called back stunned. "What are you doing with that?" She asked wondering when he got back home and how she missed his car honk and footsteps. Seeing him standing there only meant one thing which was the fact that he got back home this morning, obviously when she fell asleep.

"Good morning to you," Simon said out loud. "I was bringing your food." He further added.

"Good morning." She replied his greetings keeping a straight face. "I can eat at the hall." She said pointing towards the road that led to the dining hall.

"Or, you can eat in your room." He replied with a pleading voice.

"Fine." Paige said not in the least mad about anything. She was eager to know or find out where he spent the night and why he spent a night outside his home. She led the way upstairs and held her door open for him to pass through when they got to her room. He placed the tray gently on her bed before taking a seat. Backing him, she bent over to pick up the tray giving Simon a clear view of her thick and smooth thighs. He looked away in a bid to distract himself from the heart warming sight.

"Thank you so much for the food." She appreciated him. "Ain't you eating?"

"You're welcome." Simon replied "Don't worry, I've eaten  mine. Do you like the food?" He asked as she took a large bite of her food.

"Yes please. It's delicious." She complimented gaining another nod followed by an awkward silence. "Why didn't you come home last night." She finally asked unable to hold it back anymore.

Simon cleared his throat thoroughly before replying her. "I had a pressing work related issue I needed to attend to." He replied.

"On a Sunday?" She asked with a doubtful voice.

"Yes." He replied shortly.

"You attended to the work related issue all through the night?" She asked again.

"Sunflower, eat your breakfast. It's way past breakfast hour. We'll talk more after breakfast." He replied in a soft voice. His face expressionless making it impossible for one to read him and understand what he might be feeling.
