章 149: Chapter 146

Reign and I decided to take a walk before parting ways. And as we were doing so, Austin called. And I had to remind myself of what he had done because I got way too secretly excited to see his name. I was supposed to be mad at him! If I let that one slide then it would just be affirmation of everything Reign had said, and he would have been right to call our relationship controlling because apparently I would be fine with whatever Austin did.

I asked Reign to give me a sec, then I took a single step away and answered the call. He had already seen who it was and I had seen the expression he had worn. And as he waited for me to finish up, he crossed his arms and looked away.

" You are in really big trouble!" I informed him before he got the chance to say anything. But how was I supposed to deal with him though? I wanted to do something to teach him a lesson but I had no clue what. I had tried asking for space and that hadn't gone at all how I had expected it to. And it wasn't something I ever wanted to suggest again.

" What did do? Can't I call you?"

" You know what you did! Why would you do something like that?"

" Is this a guessing game? I suck at those. "

" My God! You're so frustrating. "

" Love you more, are you almost done? It's been over an hour already, you seriously can't find him that interesting. "

" Just wait till I get my hands on you!"

" Really? What'll you do? Now I'm excited. "

I felt genuinely defeated, and the more we talked the more agitated I became. So I just hang up and shook my head. He was a lost cause, like arguing with a five year old. All you'd get was a raging headache and this strong desire to kill yourself. Five years and he hadn't changed one bit, be was actually getting worse as time passed by, and I hated my weird self for being attracted to that aspect of him.

" Is everything okay? " Reign asked and I told him that I was. He then took that one step back to me and gently patted my cheek, wrapping his hand around my nape afterwards and silently urging me to look at him.

" I didn't tell you what was happening to break you guys off, I hope you know I really care about you. I have your best interest at heart. "

" I know. I'll talk to him and make sure he stops sending you those texts. "

Reign nodded, then we continued walking, at a certain point we decided to turn around and head back, and once we got close to the coffee shop I spotted Austin a few feet away from it. He was leaning against his bike while going through this phone, then he brought it to his ear and seconds later my phone started ringing.

" He is one odd character.." I heard Reign mutter mostly to himself as he glanced at my phone once more. And he had absolutely no idea about just how odd Austin could be if he decided to. That kid was not familiar with the word normal and what it stood for.

" What?" I asked when I picked up.

" How much longer are you gonna be? I miss you, "

" Cut the call and look to your left. "

He turned towards our direction, then I watched as he lowered the phone and cut it without really looking. Then he glanced over at Reign before turning to me again and smiling. Beckoning for me to go over, and in those few seconds I thought about what I would do to him. Scolding wasn't gonna work, he was just going to do something to distract me.

" That's my cue to get going, I don't wanna make your boyfriend cause a scene out in the open. "

I turned to Austin, then to Reign once more, and I got an idea which was not anywhere near bright. It could potentially lead to exactly what Reign was afraid of. A scene. But I was intent on seeing it through and making sure Austin did exactly what I asked him to. He was going to apologize for what he'd done and promise to quit bothering Reign so damn much.

" I'd hug you but that's probably not a good idea-"

" Come with me, "

" What?"

I held his arm and pulled him along with me, and Austin closely watched us, that complex look on his face. And when we got to where he was standing, he took his time studying Reign. That grey gaze was awfully intimidating. And we just stood there in the most wrenching silence as I thought of what to say. With Austin you had to be cautious, one wrong statement or action and he would turn uncontrollable. Damn five year old!

" Well this is uncomfortable, "

It was Reign who finally spoke. I had been the one to put him in that position so I decided to just get it over with. And if looks could kill then he'd be long gone.

" Austin, I need you to apologize to Reign. "

His brows immediately shot up and he flickered his eyes from Reign to me repeatedly. As if trying to understand what I had just said, then he scoffed and shook his head.

" Don't tell me you're still hung up on what happened at the store. That was ages ago... move on already. "

" Kyle this isn't necessary-" Reign began to say but I put my hand up and cut him off. It was about time Austin started to take responsibility for his actions.

" I know about the texts Austin. And we won't leave this spot until you apologize . "

He frowned, looking both confused and clueless. But I knew that he was an expert at lying so I wasn't going to fall for his act.

" Texts?"

" Don't pretend, just apologize and let's end this stupid misunderstanding already. "

" The hell are you talking about? What lies did he feed you? "

" Are you really denying it?" Reign asked, and I suppose Austin took it as an invitation to get physical since he stepped forward and got all in Reign's face, glaring like his life depended on it. I had to step in because I could see a punch coming from miles away.

" The least you can do is man up about what you did?"

" Will you shut your lying mouth or do you want me to help you out?"

" Austin!"

" How can you believe what this fucker is telling you? It's clearly a plan to make you leave me. "

" I mean no disrespect Stevens but your taste is very questionable. "

" Don't call him that! "

I held Austin back when he would have basically pounced on Reign. So maybe that hadn't been the best plan, but what angered me was the fact that Austin was pretending he hadn't done anything even though he was guilty.

" Let me go! I'm gonna teach him a lesson. "

" Nobody's teaching each other anything! Get a hold of yourself. "

I let him go, keeping my eyes on him to make sure he didn't do something awful. Then I asked him whether he was really denying what he had done and his response was, " It's total bullshit! " So I asked Reign to give me his phone and he did so after looking the texts up, then I handed it over to Austin and crossed my arms, there was no way he would be able to play victim when he was holding the actual proof in his hands.

I watched him intently. He stared at the screen, wearing that same confused expression, and the more he scrolled up the more intense it got , and finally he looked up at us and waved the phone like it was a piece of rash he wanted to get rid of.

" What sort of nonsense is this?"

" Are you really still gonna deny it ?"

" You planned this, didn't you? I knew you were trouble when I first saw you!"

I took the phone away and shook my head.

" Just cut it out already. " I was already tired, if only Austin would stop being so stubborn and just say sorry. It was a large ask when it came to someone like him but he could have atleast tried for my sake. He was in the wrong and I was just trying to make things right, so why did he have to make things all the more harder? Reign also realized that we weren't getting anywhere and neither would we, so he said goodbye to me and after looking Austin over, he walked away and to his parked car.

And I was left to deal with the pieces of the mess I had just created. I turned to Austin ready to deliver one hell of a lecture, but the words dried in my throat. He was staring at me with a mixture of anger, confusion and hurt. It wasn't faked either, something about the look just seemed too genuine.

" You really believe him huh? So he just tells you something and you believe it?"

" So are you saying that he's lying? That he made all those up?"

" That's exactly what I'm saying! That wasn't even my number---" he stopped talking and scoffed, running a hand through his hair. Then he told me to just forget it, that there was no need. And when he saw the conflicted look on my face he took out his phone and placed it in my hands, asking that I go through it myself, and I would have done so....but I believed him. And it wasn't because I was "blinded by my love for him" . If he was guilty then his reaction would have made it clear, but he wasn't even looking at me anymore. He just looked like he wanted to leave because he was actually hurt.

" I'm guessing the lesson is cancelled, come on, I'll drop you off. I have to help Miles out with something, " He got on his bike silently and waited for me to do the same, I was still holding his phone and I stretched out my hand and gave it back to him. He didn't ask me anything but just tucked it away and waited, then he asked me whether I was getting on or not.

Austin rarely if ever got mad at me. Each time he did I felt lost and empty, and that feeling just become this worse with each second that passed. He wasn't playing the victim and trying to manipulate me, he really was being honest about not having done anything. And now he felt hurt since I had judged him based simply on what Reign had told me.
