“Back then, he fought with everything he had,” Shreya paused. “And he had the advantage. He could have taken down that thing.”
The serpents were strong. Really so. But Jay still took two down himself.
“But he took a hit to save me,” Duran’s gaze was down.
They were all in the small room, just sitting down on the mat.
A small lamp illuminated the room.
Of course, the world outside was still bright, but that brightness had something dark about it, something mysterious… something deadly.
“It’s not your fault, Duran,” Shreya said. “I’m sure he’ll never blame you.” She smiled ever so faintly.
Yet, no one, not a single person in the room felt good about any of that.
“But you two stayed behind, right?” Layns asked. “Did you see what happened afterwards? Why’d she turn like that?” he paused… “I always thought she was on our side.”
