章 7: EP7

Come on," Alex begged, trying to free his hands once more. "I promise to stay here if necessary. I'll sit and watch TV like a good man."

"I doubt it," he snarled, but his animal was grumbling in his displeasure. He didn't want to scare her, but he needed her to understand that he was a dangerous man. He didn't know how long he would be in danger if he was exposed to his people and those like him. "I know when people lie, just so you know. For now, we'll have to rely on the string until I know I can trust you.

He closed his mouth for a second before scooping his brows. "Can I at least sit on the bed? What if I'm hungry, thirsty, or have to go to the bathroom?"

"You'll be fine. I won't be gone for long," he said roughly. He stepped back to make sure he was safe. He simply nodded, seeing that he had failed to free himself. "Honestly, I hate to do this, but I need to make sure you're not going anywhere. I'm too tired to chase after you again."

He frowned. "I don't have much choice in this matter, which is very unsportsmanlike."

"I'm sorry, but this is for your safety. Besides," she met his gaze and stared at his lips for a few seconds, "I'm anything but a gentleman."

That's when he heard. It was something else Richard didn't do. He didn't apologize for what happened. He just made them. He knew he was going to get his hands dirty when he started this business, and in all the years he's worked, he's never apologized.

The effect on him was interesting. She didn't know him very well, but she still tried to be as nice as she could. He even made sure that the rope wasn't so tight that it left marks on his wrists. He hissed possessively as his pet abandoned him. He quickly shook it off, not wanting to admit anything except that he felt a little bad for being involved. He didn't want to admit that he might actually like her. her no

Mine!

No way.

Even if he liked her, it wouldn't matter. His job didn't allow for anything serious, and he didn't want to anyway. Nothing went right in the end, so why bother? He took a small roll of duct tape from his jacket pocket.

"What are you doing with it?" ' he asked, with a slight fear in his voice.

He sighed. "What do you think? I'm sure you've watched enough TV to know." She plucked a piece and placed it on her sweet lips. Her eyes narrowed at him and she grumbled at him. Color impressed him. The female was brave.

He opened the door. "I'll be back and only going for a little while. Try to relax; enjoy the view outside while I'm gone."

Alex ignored him and closed the door. He took a deep sigh and tried to focus. He had to go to the slaughterhouse and look at the crime scene. He needed to be sure that what he said was true.

He went over the details he gave her. They had crowbars and wore ski masks. He hadn't remembered anything they had said, but had given him beautiful details. She had to give him that much. Still, she felt something was missing.

When he got to the slaughterhouse, he checked to make sure he was alone. It was late and he didn't expect anyone to be around. But the last thing he needed was for a police officer to see him at the crime scene.

He got out of his car and slid off the chain link fence. He slipped under the police tape and went straight into the building.

It was a wide open area with several machines around the area. It was so quiet that even the slightest rustling of trees could be heard. He could tell what a scream Alex had heard. It must have resonated loudly here.

And it was extremely out of place.

His nose could tell that a few people were there, he knew many of them were there when the police officers were here, but he could smell the three leading ones.

The blood didn't help. He had stained the cement, and he could almost imagine how he lay with blood pooling around his body. He had done this long enough to know how the crowbars had been pulled and slammed into the man.

This scene was like many scenes he had left behind, except for the more sloppy. Still, the details they didn't bother to clean up allowed him to envision how it all went.

He took a few steps back and walked towards where Alex said he was standing. He had a good view of what was going on and could imagine it was a sight to behold.

He remembered the first time he had been abused and how scared he was. She could understand why she was running. He was smart.

Richard frowned and looked around the area for the cameras. It's empty. Not a single one throughout the entire building.

He approached the spot where the blood was smeared and tried to understand exactly what had happened. But he picked up another scent.

Alex's Smell was strong and was throwing him for a loop. How could he make everything difficult for one person to focus? The animal argued over wanting it. No. Why him? He was just a random guy who fell into this situation. Why him? didn't know. But it has already confused him several times.

While following him before, he himselfHe found her watching him, smiling to himself. He watched her smile at people and speak in a low voice. He always thought that if he had landed with someone before, it would be like that too. Maybe that's why he was attracted to her.

He could smell her perfume and hated to admit that he liked it. This is your life. This job, you can't enjoy anything. His job was to find out what had happened and let his boss know.

Richard wasn't supposed to feel the need to protect her. He shouldn't have felt sorry for putting himself in a difficult situation. It wasn't supposed to make him feel better.

He shook his head, reminding himself to focus. Alex had to figure everything out so he could go home and return to his normal life. He would no longer have to see her.

He was nauseated by the idea and wondered why.

A sudden, high-pitched sound made Richard freeze. Turning, he scanned the area. He frowned, realizing that he was no longer alone as a shadow moved.

Had the murderers returned to the scene to do something? It would be a little late now that everything was photographed and tagged. But his mind told him it wasn't.

He squinted his eyes to see who it was. They were coming towards him, the scene of the crime. Couldn't leave. No, it had to last. So Richard waited as the shadow drew nearer with each passing second.

*

His slow gait should have been the first clue.

As the man emerged from the shadows, Richard couldn't help feeling a sense of relief wash over him. She stood up from her fallen squat and wiped her hands on the sides of her thighs.

The ragged rags hanging from the man, along with his staggering steps and tangled fine hair on the top of his head, hinted at the fact that he was most likely homeless. Richard studied her from afar, measuring her gaze at the ground with a stick she held as she moved.

Over his shoulder was a large garbage bag that jingled with every step.

A few bucks extra should be looking for cans to recycle.
