章 24: Blue shell
"Come on just a little bit more."
"Nuh uh, I don't think so!"
I execute a perfect drift boost at the corner where Jaki tried to over take me, holding on to my lead.
"Damn it, I was so close."
Jaki is following closely behind me as we reach the final lap.
This race has been intense throughout with Jaki and I swapping positions between first and second constantly.
All the bots have been left in the dust behind.
There's only a few turns left, the victory should be mine as long as I concentrate.
Right!
Left!
Right!
When I was turning around all the corners I discovered that I started tilting around like Jaki as well.
We would bump our shoulders into each other whenever we turn at the same time.
Okay there's only one last corner left!
Jaki is good but as long as I keep my cool this victory should be in the bag.
I pass by the last item box before the finish line hoping for some mushrooms to further secure my chances of winning.
However what I received was much better. A devious plan instantly formed in my head when I got the surprise item.
Both Jaki and I race into the last corner, this is it. If Jaki was gonna over take this would be her last chance.
"Come on, lets go!"
"Nuh uh!"
We both drift into the corner but I hit the corner a little bit wider than Jaki.
Seeing an opening Jaki used this opportunity to slide past me.
"Haha, how does it feel to be over taken seconds before the race ends."
"Hehehe."
I let out a little smug giggle.
"I don't know why don't you tell me."
Mere seconds before Jaki was about to reach the finish line I unleashed my secret weapon. The blue shell that I had acquired just earlier.
I had let Jaki go past me on the last corner on purpose.
Winning from my position would have been pretty easy but I figured why not have a little fun with it instead.
Let Jaki have a taste of her own medicine.
I easily cruise into the finish line while Jaki's kart is being flipped.
"Noooooooooooooooooo!"
Jaki cries out as she could do nothing but watch as I win the race.
"Revenge is a dish best served cold."
I blow the smoke of my finger gun as I look over at Jaki when the screen shows me at first place.
"Argh. I can't believe I didn't notice you had a blue shell!"
"You let me pass on purpose didn't you!"
"Wouldn't it be safer if you just held on to your lead."
"Yeah that's true but, hehe, I guess I just wanted to tease you a lil bit."
"Hmph! That was not necessary!"
Now Jaki was the one pouting with her cheeks puffed out and arms crossed.
Hehehe its cute seeing Jaki all worked up and pouting like this. It was definitely the right choice to tease her.
"Anyway don't think you can get away with this."
"It is now time for your judgement."
Now the roles have been reversed with Jaki jokingly punching me while I try to apologize in-between bouts of laughter.
Its so funny how everything can change in the span of a game.
"Okay okay, shall we settle this in the next match?"
"Yep, we are tied up now, the next match will determine who is the overall winner."
"Alright got it, you better watch your back properly this time, hehe, who knows if a rogue shell will hit you last second."
"Hmph, you won't be getting me again with that trick this time."
