Roger, in an effort to keep both Petrus and Lam out of the investigation without causing any suspicion on their part, promotes both men and puts each one in charge of the two different shifts that run the charge office. This effectively takes them away from the case as well as provides the reason why Veronica’s driver needs to be changed.

Veronica has provided the police with an idea as to what the sect ritual area should look like and also the possibility of a shrine in a cave, or grotto. She has also told the police that this would be exceptionally well hidden and that any such place would be deep in the forest.

One poor unfortunate police officer, city born and bred made up the numbers of one of these patrols, searching for the lair of the Leopard Men, when the men broke through into a clearing to find that they had come across a group of mountain gorillas quietly going about their business of collecting breakfast.
