章 112: Jazz

"Emile?" The barely audible woman's voice echoed in Emile's ear.

In that split second, Emile's brain overclocked. He tried his absolute hardest to run through each and every scenario: if it was just a soldier that recognized him then Emile could kill him, but anyone else, anyone with a talent that goes beyond killing monsters was a high priority on this mission.

Killing them would arouse too much suspicion, in addition to being a detriment to their future progress. But he had to kill them didn't he? Or atleast silence them in some capacity.

"Emma's missing—" the voice spoke again, "her cohort returned a little while ago without her…"

Instinctively, Emile's torso spun around. He forgot everything in his head, all the talk of silencing and murder vanished and only his sister's name occupied his brain.

"I knew it was you." Jazz smiled and approached Emile, sitting next to him and dangling her legs beside his.

"Jasmine?" Emile asked, "What are you doing here?"

"Oh you know, researchers don't get much vacation time so I applied for this expedition hoping to see the world!" Jazz spread her arms wide and smiled, "But so far all I've seen is sand, it's quite disappointing."

"Vacation?" Emile repeated, "Wait, what happened to Emma?"

"She graduated top of the class after you left, and by the way don't think you've gotten away with that, and after graduation she formed a cohort with Roman, Brie, and that other girl."

"Violet." Emile added.

"Yeah, her! Anyway, she formed the cohort and was sent on a scouting expedition deep into the caves surrounding Fallen Sky. According to her cohort, she left one day by herself because she was close to advancing and never came back."

"Did Fallen Sky send anybody after her?" Emile asked.

"Roman went after her. Technically he deserted, but given all the immigrants and this expedition, I'm sure Roman won't be punished for it."

"I'm sure she's fine—" Emile stated confidently, "Emma's always been stronger than me, it's probably no different even now."

"Well what happened to you?!" Jazz's pent up anticipation finally exploded out, "You're an Elder from another kingdom now? And Spright? Who's Spright?!"

"You know, because of my Gift. Spright means life or something." Emile awkwardly scratched the back of his head, he could talk about a few things with Jazz, but Graves definitely wasn't one of them.

"Okay then Mr. Spright, why did you leave? How did you become an Elder? Why didn't you tell anyone you were leaving? When did you get so strong?" Jazz bombarded him with questions.

"It's a long story…" Emile sighed.

"I've got time." Jazz looked into Emile's eyes and smiled ever so softly.

'Okay let's think about this for a second'

'Why would a fully supported prospect of Fallen Sky leave?'

'I was guaranteed resources and support, so it can't be for that'

Suddenly, the tent nearest to them began shaking abruptly.

"You're not surviving this time you little s***!" Willow's voice erupted throughout the campsite.

"I didn't do anything!" The boy yelped, "Maybe if you didn't dress like a w****—" Blood's limp body tore through the tent and smashed into the stone.

He rolled across the ground, tumbling towards the crater. He would have fallen in had Emile not grabbed his arm before plummeting to his death.

Emile discreetly healed his wounds and pulled him over the edge.

"What did you do?" Emile asked sternly.

"I didn't do anything! Is seeing a crime?! I'm not allowed to have eyes now?!" Blood argued until Willow stepped out of the broken tent wearing nothing more than a loose crop top and underwear.

"You just keep running your mouth, don't you?" Willow systematically cracked her knuckles while walking towards them.

But she stopped once she saw Spright and the random girl sitting beside him. She closed her eyes and calmed her nerves.

"I apologize for interrupting, Blood and I will return immediately." Willow said while lasering Blood with her gaze.

"Why can't you two just get along?" Emile heaved, "Come here Willow, take a seat. Just relax with us for a bit."

Willow antagonized Blood a little more. She picked him up and scooted him to the side, taking the available seat next to Spright.

"Sorry about them—" Emile turned around and faced Jazz again, "what was I saying earlier?"

"Oh! Um—nothing! I can see why you left now." Jazz avoided eye contact, her cheeks flushed red momentarily and she playfully tossed her feet around.

"What—" Emile looked to his left, at Willow and Blood, "Wait a second, I think there's been a misunderstanding."

"No no, it's okay!" Jazz leaned into Emile's ear and whispered, "She's beautiful!"

"What?!" Emile jumped, "No! I mean, yes she is, but that's—that's not why I—wait a second!"

But Jazz already stood up and began to leave, she turned around one final time and looked at Emile's cohort:

"But hey, I'll see you around Mr. Elder!" She winked and then disappeared into the camp.

"Who was that?" Willow asked.

'What the hell just happened to me?'

"Probably one of Spright's girlfriends! He just keeps racking them up!" Blood answered first.

"Willow?" Emile said.

"Yes?"

"Kill him."
