章 54: Tournament, (1)
It was now the day of the tournament and it was currently 13:38 and the tournament was due to start at 14:45, since I had finished my training I decided to go and check out the arena I would be fighting in.
I made my way to a massive arena that was at least 3x the size of the schools main training room, indoor training room number 1. Pillars were stretched up to hold the sides of the stone arena which had been enhanced by magic and had a sort of barrier around it which was a transparent blue colour.
I thought the barrier would keep me out but I walked through with no resistance.
I walked into the arena and noticed the many seats that went all the way around the arena and the massive dirt floor where the fighting would take place.
I walked out onto that dirt floor and stood in the centre of the arena. I looked around from where I was standing and examined everything I could.
'That's a lot of seats.' I thought to myself.
I closed my eyes and transformed Adonis into my favoured katana and begun some fluid like motions with it. I was slashing through the air with great precision and flowing movements but to the outsiders view it would seem like more of a dance. A random girl dancing with her sword.
I continued these movements in a pattern and begun trying some things with my magic. I knew I could fly as I was a dragon but that was with my wings. I didn't want to reveal myself until I was strong enough to fend off those who came for my heart. So, I thought of a different way.
To use air magic to fly. No wings were needed for this but I didn't know if it would work.
I began by jumping up into the air and using the air magic to keep myself in that position. It worked for a while before it started getting tricky so I tried stabilising myself but failed and went to the floor.
'So that does work but it can be difficult. I can make this work without that difficulty with enough training.' I thought to myself as I repeated the process over and over until I stayed stable in the air for 10 minutes.
It was at that moment I accomplished that 10 minute mark of hovering in the air when I realised that the tournament would start soon and I should quickly change into something suitable.
I released my air magic and fell to the ground, landing without problems and using [Flash steps] in quick succession to get to the dorms.
After I arrived I took a quick shower and put on a white hanfu before leaving as the time was now 14:44 leaving me with a minute to get to the arena.
'I should be fine.' I thought to myself as I used [Flash steps] to the arena before walking the final stretch and tying my black hair into a messy ponytail.
I walked to the arena and there was a whole crowd outside.
'I'm on time?'
I walked up to the crowd and earned myself a few looks, scanning me up and down. We all entered the arena and stood on the ground at the centre while waiting patiently.
"Welcome everyone to our Grand tournament! Today will be the first of this new semester so please enjoy yourselves! We will begin with the more important duals and work our way to the rookie tournament. Starting with the hard tournaments, if you would like to participate please stay here and if not go and take a seat in one of the many seats of this stadium with the others that have already settled up there." A voice called out as a bulky man walked to the centre of the arena.
He had tan skin and brown hair with green eyes. He stood around 6'2.
"I will be this tournaments referee." He spoke again, "You can call me Callum."
All the students who came to watch, which was the vast majority, made their way to the seats and settled down waiting for the matches to start.
There wasn't many who wanted to participate in this tournament as some room a look at who was participating and saw that the 'strongest' of this academy would participate so gave up which left only 6 of us to fight. Not many at all.
It consisted of the three I saw enter the academy and get swarmed by students, otherwise know as the 'strongest' or 'big three' of the academy, Tess, a boy I've never seen who had ginger hair and blue eyes and, of course, myself.
We all looked at each other to determine who was the strongest and who we could easily beat. I looked at everyone and the weakest was definitely the ginger boy then Tess. I couldn't tell who was the weakest out of the 'big three' as they were, just like me, hiding their auras.
"Nice to meet you all, I'm Xander." The ginger boy said as he held out his hand.
No one took it so the boy looked dejected.
"Hi I'm Tess." Tess said to break the awkward atmosphere so everyone followed suit and introduced themselves.
"I'm Mio." The girl with silvery-white hair from the 'big three' said.
"I'm Iris." Said the other girl that had soft light blue hair.
"Jayden, it's a pleasure. For you." The blonde boy said.
"Kiera." I said with a short simple response.
"Hmm?" Jayden hummed, looking at me with a teasing smile.
Mio jabbed her elbow into Jayden's arm and he let out an,
"Ouch, what was that for?"
"You know why I did that." Mio replied.
"Alight, since your now all acquainted why don't we begin with the sparring. There isn't an order to do things so we will split you six into pairs and once two pairs have fought then the winners will fight one person from the pair that hadn't fought and who ever is the winner from those two will fight. Clear?" Callum said.
"Yes." I replied.
Everyone else nodded and paired up. I was against Jayden. The other two pairs were Tess vs Xander and Iris vs Mio.
"Iris and Mio, you will fight in the second round so either Jayden and Kiera can start or Tess and Xander." Callum said.
"We will go." Tess said quickly with a smirk.
"Alright then. Other pairs can you stand at the edge of the arena and we will begin. Tess and Xander please get ready."
Xander pulled out his sword and Tess followed.
"BEGIN!" Callum shouted and the whole arena turned their attention on the ones who were fighting.
