North Carolina.
In an abandoned building.
Airon was looking outside with a slightly calm expression. His current task was to explore these grounds and bring as many survivors as possible to Carolina del Sur. At the last moment, he had asked Cesar to contact the CRM and let them know that he was intercepted in this location.
Airon didn't expect to remain undiscovered. What he was seeking was time to fortify the borders according to the CRM's attack method.
This time, Florida was taken as a state to serve as a great retreat location in case an unprecedented battle breaks out. It is also where the nuclear submarine is kept, protected by a team of special forces.
"Sir, there are no traces of any helicopters for now." Said George as he looked through a telescope in a certain direction.
"If there was something, I would have already shot them." Said Tommy, holding one of the most advanced sniper rifles.
"I don't think it's necessary to kill anyone and expose our position," said Nick while eating an energy bar.
Airon looked at the group he had formed and after hearing Nick's words, he pointed out, "If we don't see anything of interest in this place, we will go to the Commonwealth to take everyone under our command. The situation there may get out of control."
When everyone heard that, they put on serious expressions. They had all been in good spirits, as recovering three states in less than two years right after the end of the world was truly unimaginable.
Airon even believed that these achievements would not have been possible without Sam Valdez and many of his subordinates who had been supporting him for a long time. Without them, he probably wouldn't have even taken all of Georgia.
"Well, all for the future..."
Nick smiled and said, "Hopefully, my sister hasn't killed anyone..."
Airon smiled and took his binoculars to see what was happening in the distance. After locating a small community, they had been observing it for some time before intervening if they proved trustworthy.
After learning that there might be infiltrators in the S.C.T. bases, Airon had reinforced the security of many sites of great importance.
Seeing a horde of walkers approaching from afar, Airon picked up a radio and ordered, "Field team, head north to see if the walker horde is significant. If so, divert to the area where we don't operate."
"Zz... Yes, sir!"
"It's time to make contact!"
"It's about time, just when I was about to take a good nap..."
...
Minutes later, a modified military-style RV, heavily armed with different types of turrets and integrated missile systems, headed towards that small community. This truck was long, and several gun barrels protruded from various openings.
The most impressive aspect was its armor and the structure of the defenses, allowing vehicles to move along the road relatively easily. As for the walkers, they posed no threat to the truck.
The truck was followed by two Humvees and a tanker truck, so when the people in the base saw the sudden appearance of this convoy, they were immediately startled. Guards raised their weapons and asked in an urgent voice, "Who are you? Why have you come to our refuge?"
Airon's convoy stopped just 20 meters from the gate of this small community. On the other side of the base, heavily armed soldiers hid their bodies behind the bunker, only showing a pair of eyes staring at this gang.
"You better not come any closer, just turn around!" shouted a guard loudly.
"Don't be foolish, you'll only make them angry. What if they have bad intentions?"
Inside the truck, Nick looked at these people and remarked, "Doesn't seem like a friendly base for outsiders..."
Airon understood everyone's concerns and warnings about establishing contact with this base possibly being detrimental, so he immediately reassured them, "They don't have that look in their eyes, I know."
But when Airon heard all the objections, he immediately changed his plan and told everyone to stay alert as he opened the side door of the truck, ready to leave this place if things turned ugly.
After opening the door, Airon raised his open hand and shouted, "There's a horde of walkers approaching in this direction. We were resting not far away when we saw someone enter this place, so we thought we could help you withstand the horde while we waited for our other companions."
The guards looked at each other, unsure of what to do for a moment. After hesitating, one of the guards simply stood up and ran towards the settlement.
"Wait a minute, we need to seek instructions."
Airon smiled and nodded, indicating that there was no problem, and then closed the truck's door again.
...
A man named Kiano felt that today had to be the most unfortunate day of his life. Food scarcity had already been tormenting him. One of the strongest members of his group volunteered to go out and explore but returned severely injured, causing a mental breakdown.
"A horde of walkers is approaching!"
At that moment, Kiano, who was lying in bed, woke up, and his first reaction was to seize the time to organize a migration. However, when he opened his eyes, he felt his world spinning, so after a long bout of dizziness, he regained some control.
At this moment, the sound of footsteps was heard outside the door, and then the door slammed open, and a guard with a weapon rushed in.
"What's the rush?"
Benllamy, who had been standing on the side, scolded in a low voice, and the person who entered realized that something was amiss and hurriedly slowed down.
"Where is Kiano? Some people I don't know are in front of our community, saying they want to enter to avoid the horde of walkers."
"They're not from here? How many are there?"
The guard pondered how many people there might be on the other side. At this moment, as he thought about it, his voice suddenly disappeared, falling into silence.
"What's wrong?"
After waiting a few seconds without receiving a response, Benllamy turned his head to look and immediately saw the embarrassment on the man's face.
"They don't know?"
"Uh, I saw it, probably... maybe... They come in military vehicles and very impressive trucks, but the person who said that didn't get off the truck. That's why I came here to ask you. Oh, by the way, they also said they could help us deal with the horde of walkers."
"Let them in and bring them here..." Kiano suddenly spoke from the bed, and both Benllamy and the guard looked at him in surprise. Benllamy stepped forward and approached the head of the bed.
"Are you okay with that?"
Kiano opened his eyes slightly and nodded. He found that the dizziness had improved a lot, so he opened his eyes and looked peacefully at the guard who reported the message.
"Go ahead, you can let them in, bring them here afterward..."
The guard nodded, but just as he was about to turn around, Benllamy grabbed him and indicated to wait a little longer. Then he looked at Kiano with concern.
"Kiano! We don't know them. Now is not a good time to accept new members."
"What can they do? We only have a few days' worth of food left, and the ammunition is about to run out, not to mention there's a large group of walkers heading straight towards us not far away. Even if they have no ill intentions, we can't afford to take that risk."
Kiano struggled to sit up and gestured to the guard to call someone.
The guard headed the order and trotted out through the door, and Kiano stood up and patted Benllamy on the shoulder.
"Oversee it yourself, so you can be more at ease." Benllamy nodded and was about to leave, but he heard Kiano's voice from behind him.
"Take all the men and weapons we have."
