Somewhere in South Carolina.
Minutes after Reginald's group arrived at the outskirts of the house where Jack and his team were located.
"You! What the hell are you doing?"
Seeing his captain suddenly pushed to the ground, the two men accompanying Julio were scared and didn't understand why this was happening.
"What a bunch of noisy people..."
With his hands behind his back, Reginald ignored those people, slowly walked towards Julio, and said indifferently, "It seems like the power has gone to your head. You don't understand even a small part of what we're going through, so I hope you shut your mouth."
Upon hearing Reginald's words, Julio suddenly had a sinister premonition in his heart. He secretly regretted coming here today and quickly opened his mouth to explain, "Sir, I'm not... Wait..."
One of the armed men standing next to Julio and restraining him saw that he was about to speak, so he quickly covered his mouth to prevent him from saying a word.
"Alright, I don't have time to waste on garbage..."
Impatiently looking at Julio, who was about to struggle, Reginald greeted the two soldiers and said, "Send him back to the community, and I really want to know what's going on with this imbecile. If I see him trying to do stupid things in my presence again, his death will be more than deserved..."
"Also..." As he spoke, Reginald pointed to Julio's followers and continued, "Take these guys with you!"
"Yes, sir!"
After receiving the order, the two armed men nodded. One of them dragged Julio outside, and both raised their rifles, threatening death.
After all these people left, the scene returned to calm again.
Only then did Reginald approach Jack again and said with a smile, "Just now was just a little episode of drama. Let's continue with what we're talking about..."
"It seems like they're soldiers. Their outfits look much more advanced than the conventional ones used by the military before this damn catastrophe hit us hard... Well, I don't want to evade what I know. I know your people killed many of ours in this place..."
"What?"
Upon hearing the news, Jack immediately showed a look of astonishment on his face.
"It seems like you don't know or weren't the author of those killings..."
Looking closely at Jack's face, Reginald continued to observe the subtle expressions on this man's face, chuckled and said, "In this case, even though I don't care because I can say it was self-defense... Well, I really want to know what your purpose is in this place, and before that, we need to search the surroundings for mice..."
Then, he looked at the armed men who were actually soldiers who had been standing not far away in full armor, pointed to the surrounding buildings, and said, "Search the surroundings inch by inch. I want you to bring every living person to this place."
"Sure!"
After receiving the order, the few people who were there quickly walked towards the buildings and began searching for survivors with their weapons raised.
"Are there people?" Jack asked with a strange feeling.
"Oh, of course there are. Who do you think notified us that there were soldiers here?"
In a few seconds, several screams were heard in the distance, and then soldiers began pulling survivors out of the buildings.
Reginald could see the doubt on Jack's face, so he immediately said, "Well, we're in a silent fight with a malicious group of survivors. Some of ours want to join them, and that really doesn't benefit us..."
"Don't get me wrong, it's not about power or some shit like that. To be honest, I'd rather live cultivating potatoes than be a damn leader in my last years of life..." Reginald smiled and said, "I know you're not just passing by and you're not our enemies either, so I really want to make sure we're not enemies in the future..."
"What's that group called?" Jack was interested.
"I don't know why you want to know, but they call themselves the Fireflies..."
When Jack heard this, he looked at Emma next to him and their eyes met briefly. "My name is Jack, I'm just a captain of an assault group from the S.C.T. organization and we're investigating this place..."
When Jack finished speaking, several people who were lined up on the dirty road were pointed at with their guns and the screams stopped.
"Tell me Jack, does that organization belong to the government?"
The soldiers in the distance ignored the actions of all these people and went about removing each and every one of these survivors. Although some of the soldiers were a little hesitant to hurt survivors who had been caring for them until recently, it was necessary to maintain their own peace.
Looking at these things, Jack couldn't help but secretly be surprised, not understanding how these people could hide in the surroundings.
"The army no longer exists, but we're trying to reclaim what we've lost so far," Jack replied calmly.
As the soldiers continued to search for more and more people among the increasing group, they had no way of retreating. If they went back, they would definitely be noticed by the soldiers who were searching for them.
"If I tell you this, it's because my community has been infected by the Fireflies. It's hard for me to trust anyone and I think you should be very careful where you come from," Reginald said.
When Reginald finished speaking, his eyes rested on a group of people. That group looked at each other and then walked very slowly towards the back of the crowd, then put their hands in their pockets.
"These people belonged to our community, but they were driven away because they openly suggested that they wanted to join the Fireflies and were suspected of killing several of our leaders."
"Guys, hands up!" shouted a soldier with a loud voice.
After checking most of the people in the front, one of them looked at the last six men and women standing at the back. He had felt that something was wrong with these people for a while now, and he continued to move towards the back of the crowd.
At first, he thought it was just because they were scared, but now, seeing that everyone's expression was very calm and they had their hands in their pockets, he didn't know what to make of it. His vigilance suddenly went on high alert and he was about to give a warning order.
¡Bang Bang Bang!
But before the soldiers could take a step forward to check, those people ran towards the front at the same time, all with guns in their hands, and raised their hands to shoot while running.
Before the soldier could take action, he was shot in the head by a bullet, blood spurted from the wound and he fell to the ground in response.
The rest of the soldiers who were inspecting saw this, but did not panic at all, and did not think about pulling out their weapons, but all fell to the ground, with no intention of resisting the attack.
"Ah!"
At the same time, the sudden gunshots were like a pair of bells, and everyone saw those survivors show an expression of horror. They were all afraid of being hit by bullets, so they screamed in horror as they ran in all directions.
The chaotic crowd immediately overwhelmed the armed rebels. Looking from the outside, it was really impossible to discern their positions for a while.
"Look at these pieces of shit, I didn't expect some of the soldiers in my convoy to be traitors!"
Looking at the chaotic crowd in front of him, Reginald made a disdainful grimace at the corner of his mouth and ordered loudly, "Fire, they are all enemies!"
Although he was facing the crowd, his peripheral vision still observed Jack's wandering face, as if trying to discern something from him.
Feeling the faint indiscreet gazes, although Jack did not change anything, his heart was in chaos, and all this new information overwhelmed him.
Of course, this was really the purpose of his mission, but things have progressed in a very forced and, easy? How because they are obtaining information and that man Reginald is telling them everything as if they were allies?
What is more terrible is that South Carolina was led by a united group of several communities and is now in conflict with the group called Fireflies.
And if he shows right now that he is actually part of the organization that destroyed a group of Reginald, they will be in a lot of trouble that will not be resolved unless one of the two sides survives.
While Jack was thinking about countermeasures in his mind, with an order from Reginald, the soldiers around who had been pointing their guns at the residents of this place decisively pulled out the semi-automatic rifles in their hands.
Bang Bang Bang! Bang Bang Bang!
In a few seconds, the roar of the guns sounded, and countless cartridges were shot out of the barrels of the long guns, mercilessly hitting both the traitors and those who knew nothing and of course, killing the Fireflies.
Regardless of whether they were rebels or not, as long as the people in front of them were enemies, Reginald's soldiers shot mercilessly.
Suddenly, the scene became extremely bloody, blood splattered all over the ground, and the residents of this place who were shot fell to the ground one by one, screaming in pain as if they were leaving purgatory on earth.
"Fight against those damn idiots!"
The rebels, who originally wanted to use the crowd to indirectly fight, never thought that the soldiers of the beaver community would shoot so cruelly. One of them, who was hiding among the crowd, roared and raised his weapon to counterattack desperately.
But before he could fire a few shots, the soldiers turned their guns and shot him, hitting the man and killing him instantly. At that moment, other rebels were also killed by bullets from all directions when they tried to defend themselves, but as a result, all innocent people also died or were injured.
"Shit!"
Seeing this situation, Jack's eyes widened and were filled with disbelief. He really didn't expect this group's military forces to have ignored innocent lives to this extent. It could be said that they were extremely cold-blooded.
"Surprised?"
Seeing the shock in Jack's eyes, Reginald chuckled and said, "It's not surprising. There are less than thirty survivors here. If we now give ourselves the freedom to protect them, our enemies will use them to kill us all and there will be no survivors."
As he spoke, he slowly clenched his fist behind his back, and the fierceness in his eyes was evident, and he said, "Compared to the casualties of a soldier who can fight, it is better to sacrifice some lives to save others."
"We must know that we have to prioritize some people over others. I don't know where you come from, but things are done like this here... Food is scarce, there are no medicines, and the damn bullets are a problem, and now there's an organization that wants us as their soldiers."
"I understand perfectly, sir."
Looking at the fallen survivors all over the ground, Reginald said to the soldiers, "Secure the bodies and let the wounded survivors go without pain."
"Yes, sir!"
