章 30: Chapter 30: Sick

The peas rolled around Sage’s plate as she felt her stomach roll. She was exhausted from a long day of classes and her lips were swollen from her interaction with Caspian–not that she was complaining.

She was surprised as Nikolas came into the dining hall and heads turned, following him. It had been a few days now since she’d seen him last and as he sat down across from her, she didn’t know whether to be concerned or frustrated. She landed on a little of both.

Nikolas slid into the chair and crossed his arms, hugging himself. His cloak hood was up, hiding a majority of his face in shadow. From what Sage could see, he looked pale, his lips a dangerous shade of white. He looked deathly ill, and Sage knew he was rarely ever sick.

“Where have you been? You’ve missed classes,” Sage asked quietly. “You okay?”

He glanced up at her and she caught the dark circles under his eyes. Moon and stars, he looked awful.

“Nik?” her voice softened with concern.
