Rhiannon's POV
The Fourth of July would always hold a special place in Rhiannon's heart. She had always been fascinated by fireworks, by the patriotism, by the way, Independence Day just made her buzz.
Today, she was more excited by the fact Rich had chosen to close the bar, so she and Lauren got a rare day off together.
For the past week, John had been aloof. He still found the time to throw the stray comment her way, and she couldn't mistake that smoldering look in his eyes when she caught him staring for anything other than desire. However, he hadn't laid a hand on her since Saturday night, and it was Thursday. She wasn't unaccustomed to his absence around the bar, and it wasn't like they were having secret rendezvous all that often before.
Rhiannon felt abandoned, ghosted almost. It made her angry at him. Childishly, she wanted to make a big scene, find some handsome young man, and make a big show about picking him up. She wanted a reaction out of John.
