Meanwhile, the moment Celeste stepped outside the room, she saw Veron standing on the spot she wanted to stand — the opposite wall to the door of Gideon's room — while Skye stood beside him. 

Veron had his unreadable and unwavering gaze stubbornly fixed on her, but he uttered no word, which she was grateful for.

Since he had taken the spot she had in mind, she took a few steps to the side of the door and stopped when she felt she was far enough from him, and still close enough to hear Salma should she need her attention for any reason. 

Comfortable with her second choice spot, she leaned against the wall, threw her head back so that the rear side of her head was pressing against the wall, then shut her eyes. 

Too many things happened that day and her head was filled up. The last thing she wanted to think or bother herself about was the person standing not too far from her.
