Declan dropped me off at the office a full five minutes early, which gave me a chance to get some filing done.

“Oh, good morning,” Mrs. Quickly said, popping up from behind the cubical wall.

“Jesus!” I yelped, trying to slow my beating heart.

“Nope, just li’l old me,” she said, smiling.

“Next time just throw a snake at me, okay?” I asked, a little sarcastically.

“Will do,” she said, sinking down from view.

“Mrs. Quickly,” I asked.

“Yes, Mrs. Peterson?” she asked, popping up like a jack-in-the-box.

“How did you get in here?”

“Through the door,” Mrs. Quickly said like it was the most obvious thing in the world.”

“The door is locked, Mrs. Quickly.”

“Not around the back it isn’t.”

“The back?” I asked.

“Follow me.”
