As I carried Nayara upon my back, her weight a soothing balm upon my weary muscles, I felt a sense of tenderness swell within my breast as I hiccupped.

Looks like the alcohol was kicking in.

I placed her with infinite care upon the bed, savoring the delicate rustling of sheets and the softness of her breath as it caressed my cheek. I gazed upon her peaceful form, it was as though the universe had conspired to grant me a respite from its ceaseless tumult.
