章 17: Chapter 17: She's all that

Roxy takes a protective stance back-to-back with Rivkah, facing down not only the Calisto bodyguard, but Donovan as well. She faces the larger, Shifter bodyguard without any sign of intimidation even though she’s only holding a flashlight.

Her left hand hovers over something else, a stun gun.

“I wouldn’t,” Roxy says as the built Callisto shifter twitches his hand near his own weapon.

"Men can be so dramatic, don’t you think so Mackenzie?" Rivkah sighs,

Roxy turns her face a fraction, her dark eyes slice to me under thick lashes. Her lips part just for a minute before curling into a tight frown.

I frown right back on instinct.

Even though both of us didn’t know the other would show up here, it still feels way too soon to see her again based on the way my heart has slung its way into my sticky throat. .

Rivkah doesn’t wait for me to answer as she turns to Donovan.

Or as she calls him, Donny.
