"You want me to teach you self-defense?" Makai asks, stunned.
"Yes," Andrea confirms with a pleading look at Kai.
"But...me?"
"Yes," they chorus.
"Why? There are pack warriors that--"
"No! We don't want them close!" Corey cries, his reaction surprising Kai. Unlike Kai, I'm not surprised. I know why Corey wants nothing to do with the warriors.
"What's wrong with-- oh. You don't like alphas," Makai remembers.
"Or Betas," Andrea adds sagely. "They're almost the same as the alphas."
"I'm an alpha," Makai states the obvious.
"Yes, but you're different. You don't scare us and we like you."
This seems to perplex my mate more. He shifts his attention to Andrea who nods eagerly. "I feel safe in your presence. My sister Ama also felt the same. At the dance," She clarifies when Kai still looks confused.
"Is there a reason you want to learn self-defense now? Did something happen?"
They nod in unison. "That was why we want to talk to you too," Corey tells me.
