Kinsley’s POV

I run so far, so fast, that the cold air that sheds through my fur is almost comforting after enough time. I follow the smell of Lucas for as far as I can until I hear the lone howls sporadically popping up all around the valley that surrounds me.

My wolf sits back, waiting to pounce or be pounced on, but instead, I spot Ace Whitfield, his mortal form almost too easy to kill compared to my protective, invigorated wolf.

“You never learn, Kinsley,” Ace hums, my name on his lips foreign and sour. “I would have thought for sure you’d wait for your mate to handle this but I knew you just couldn’t resist a challenge from me.”

I finally shift, standing in the dry ravine and feeling the moon cast shadows on my naked, vulnerable posture. I don’t even mind Ace seeing me naked, it’s the way he looks at me like he has a right to see me naked.
