章 29: Blame

I narrow my eyes on him before looking away. I'm not going to get caught up in his pace yet again. He seriously has a talent for it.

_______

Bolin watches the woman in front of him with a smile in his dark eyes. She's entirely too fun to tease, she only has herself to blame. When Huan told him that the woman was being followed and bothered by Weimin, something in him stirred.

He didn't like it; he didn't like it at all. He dropped everything he was doing just to go and retrieve her. He planned to just run Weimin off but when he had seen how weak she was, he changed his mind and brought her to one of his residences close to the area.

The woman seemed to bring a lot of new emotions out of him. He narrows his eyes on her before looking away. He places his hand down on the table, releasing his power in a small wave before standing up and saying, "I was in the middle of something important. Stay here as long as you need. Ask Huan if you need anything."

She looks up at him, confusion written in her beautiful eyes. No doubt wondering why he was being so kind or why he was even doing this. He knows why but he only smirks. Let her figure it out, there was plenty of time. He releases his power, allowing the shadows to swallow him.

The last thing he sees, is her sitting up straighter, watching him with surprise.

When he reemerges, he stands on a dark, long-forgotten wall overlooking a dead and empty kingdom. Everything was dark as a soundless breeze blew, causing the dark sand to tumble down below.

It looked as if a god had reached up and plucked the sun from the dark sky, leaving everything in an endless night. Shadows crawl and twist along the walls, quickly coming his way after noticing his presence.

They slip in and out of the buildings, traveling at speeds that were hard to track with the human eye. A few quickly turned into a hundred, and that hundred soon turned into thousands. They look like dark waves, traveling at terrifying speeds, swallowing everything in their path.

His dark smile turns darker as his eyes turn into bottomless pits of the night. This was only the beginning. He looks otherworldly as he stands along the wall. His own shadow begins to stretch and grow under him, sliding down the side of the wall as he lifts his head up.

Yes, this was only the beginning. The fun is just about to begin.

______

I watch him disappear with a look of shock on my face. How could he... wait, that's not important. I shake my head and think back to the way he's always able to pop in and out like that. It was like teleportation! Teleportation is along the same lines as time travel or parallel world hopping.

Every time he does that, he has to create an opening. I reach out, trying to feel for his remaining power. I close my eyes as I lightly brush my fingers over the residue power, but I'm left with more questions.

It feels... empty. I open my eyes and tilt my head, thinking. I lift my hand, using my magic to gather what's left of his power, and stand. I hold my hand out, watching as a grey substance begins to form a ball.

The ball floats over and hovers in my hand as I watch it closely. What is it? I felt the power the other cultivator had thrown at me, and I even felt Weimin's power but those two felt different. Not like this.

When I feel someone approaching, I wave my hand and seal away the power within my magic. I turn to find the man I threw against the wall the first time we met. He bows respectfully and asks, "Is there anything I can do for you while you stay here?"

I can tell he has power as well but again, it's closer to the others. I softly say, "You name." The man blinks before saying, "Huan, Young Miss." My lip twitches when I realize he's the one who told Bolin all that crap about liking someone.

I decided not to say a word about it as I ask, "Is there someplace quiet I can work without interruptions?" He seems a little surprised, but he doesn't question it. He only says, "Follow me." As he turns and walks away so I silently follow behind him.

He brings me to a large open room with no windows. A few candles were in place, creating enough light to see but even during the day like this, it was dark. I tell him thank you and watch as he disappears.

I walk around the empty room and notice how silent it is. Truly a good room to study in. I walk to the very center of the room and sit. I lift my hand and watch as the grey ball reappears. Their powers are so different from our magic but at the same time...

I pull some of the grey, and mix a little of my magic in it, watching as the two spin and dance before eventually mixing. My silver magic changes, becoming slightly duller but it shimmers like an untouched star.

I'm momentarily in awe as I look at what looks like a miniature galaxy within my hand. How was this even possible? My eyes sparkle and dance, reflecting the brilliant shimmering ball in front of me, wondering what I had just done.

I take my hand and push it through the miniature galaxy, shivering in response. I pull the new magic to me but I'm careful not to take it all the way in. I keep it in my hand as I reach out and will the air around me to open.

I focus on my world, and my time as I try to open it. Ripples in the air begin to form as the temperature dips. Suddenly, a large hand gently wraps around my wrist, breaking my magic like it was nothing but an allusion.

Bolin's deep, smooth voice is heard right next to my ear as he softly says, "Playing with things you don't understand will only get you hurt." I slowly turn to look at him, our lips almost touching as I look up into his deep dark eyes.

I whisper out, "Then teach me."
