章 51: Imagine

Hermione walked out skipping, bidding Pansy and Astoria goodbye as she went. Pansy had promised that she'd have the dress prepared by the wedding day- May 31st. The light was fading slowly as she exited the shop, reminding her that the day was almost finished. Stopping by the bakery, she picked up a box of macarons before going home. Draco enveloped her in a hug as soon as she got home, quirking an eyebrow at her excitement.

"What's got you in a good mood, love?"

"Pansy's store."

"What about it?" Draco cupped Hermione's cheek, bringing his view down to hers.

"I can't tell you.. You'll see later." Hermione stretched up to pat the top of his head (to Draco's mumbled protest) before sauntering into the kitchen, dropping the box of macarons onto the table.

"Why can't you tell meee?" Draco followed her into the kitchen, pulling her in by the waist and pulling her into him before lifting her up. Hermione squealed.

Draco flicked his wand, and music began to play. The light outside was already dim, setting the atmosphere perfectly. His hands gripped her waist and slid to her shoulder, pulling her into a dance. The pair swayed to the beat before Draco set them off into perfect waltz steps. Hermione stumbled.

"Draco-"

"Shh.. Just follow my lead." The blonde began to count out the beat, matching his steps with his voice. Hermione looked down at his feet, trying to anticipate the movement before it came. Draco tilted her head up, so that her eyes were looking into his. "Just let me take over, yeah?"

Hermione mumbled out a response.

1-2-3. 1-2-3. The base began to solidify in Hermione's mind, and she moved her feet with more confidence, while also letting Draco manipulate her body to the dance movements he'd practiced since a kid. They danced together, the sun setting in the background, and if Draco closed his eyes they could be in a magnificent hall, or better yet, dancing at their wedding for the first time as man and wife- even though they were simply dressed for everyday, Draco had no doubts that their time dancing together right now would be just as magnificent as their first time dancing as a married couple.

By the time the music slowed to a halt, fading away, Hermione was beaming as Draco spun her around in a classic twirl, and gasped when his arm dropped her nearly to the floor before bringing her back up, a smirk on his face.

He crushed her to him suddenly, causing the pair to topple over, limbs tangled together. Hermione laughed as they crashed; Draco thought there couldn't be a more beautiful sight than the sunlight streaming across her face, eyes glinting, laughter erupting from her lips. He reached up, tucking a stray curl behind her ear, as she giggled.

"When'd you learn to dance?"

"When you're a small pureblood child, and your mother is Narcissa Malfoy, there is no escaping the dance lessons."

Hermione's lips quirked to the side in a half-smirk. "Really? I can just picture baby you taking dance lessons. I imagine you were either incredibly obedient or incredibly adamant about taking them."

"It was uh.. more of the latter." Draco grinned. Hermione smirked.

"I wonder why I'm not surprised. At all."

"So do I."

"Seems like you didn't like to listen at school; can't imagine how you'd deal with dance lessons."

"Hey, I listened at school. You just never saw it." He flipped them over, and suddenly Hermione felt the floor at her back, Draco keeping his weight hovering above her as he propped himself up on his elbows. The blonde smirked. "I did hear about when you walked out on Trelawny in our third year." Hermione rolled her eyes.

"I learned nothing in that class. Nothing! Can you imagine?"

"I'm not sure how I'm supposed to reply to that. So.. No comment." Draco's lips curled upwards in a playful smirk, and Hermione shoved him teasingly.

"Hmm.. You're being really careful not to incur my wrath."

"Yes, I am. I do not want to get beat up, intellectually or physically. Call me back on Monday, and I'll see see if I can arrange something."

Hermione snorted, bursting into laughter. Draco couldn't help himself. He leaned down, pressing his lips to hers. Her laughter stopped abruptly, and she reached up to tug Draco's hair gently, eliciting a groan. Only once both of them were completely starved of oxygen did they pull back, cheeks flushed and breathing hard.

"Any particular reason you decided to do that?" Hermione asked, breathlessly.

"You looked so beautiful. Couldn't resist." Draco grinned roguishly. Hermione buried her face in his chest.

"Stop it! You're making me blush!"

"You're even cuter when you're blushing." Draco smiled at the top of her head.

"No I'm not! Not when my face is as red as a tomato!"

"Doesn't matter to me. You're always gonna be cute." Hermione shook her head.

"I'm not though."

"Yes, you are."

"I'm really not."

"You are the cutest and most beautiful woman I've ever seen, and you're never gonna be able to change my mind." Draco smiled gently.

"Well, for no particular reason at all, I'm going to change the topic. Do you want a macaron?"

"Yes. Race you to the kitchen!" Draco grinned as he took off, but Hermione simply smirked. A wave of her wand and the box soared into her outstretched hand, followed by a dejected Draco a few seconds later,

"Did you really just do that?"

"Yes, I did. Dibs on first pick." Hermione smirked as she plucked one from the box of six.

"The rest is for after dinner."

"Whyy?" Draco whined, trailing after her into the kitchen.

"Because I said so."

"That is not a good reason and you know it." Draco crossed his arms stubbornly. Hermione raised an eyebrow.

"Nobody said I had to answer to you. Dinner first, macarons later."

"Please? Just one more?" Draco pleaded. Hermione shook her head, fighting a smile. "Nope, dinner first." She paused. "It's so cute when you're like this."

"Hmph." Draco scowled.

"It's true." Hermione smiled. "Now, come on. Dinnertime."

The table was cleared, the macaron box soon empty, Draco grinned as Hermione pouted and rolled her eyes.

"This is me getting you back for the Garrison theory debate."

"Hey! All my information from that particular charms theory comes from outdated library books, not from an old tutor I owled specifically to get the answer we had this discussion!"

"All's fair in love and war, sweetheart."

"You're such a Slytherin."

Draco smirked. "Oh, I know." I was placed in that house for a reason."

"Well- the Sorting Hat could theoretically place anyone in any house. Usually the deciding factor is family and/or tradition, or choice."

"That can't be true." Draco crossed his arms stubbornly..

"Yes, it could be. Think about it. Slytherins and Gryffindors are both stubborn twats. You could've been a Gryffindor." Hermione smirked at Draco's look of slight horror. "You also enjoy learning, so Ravenclaw isn't a far-fetched choice. Slytherins, being ambitious, are also hard workers and quite loyal to their friends. The Sorting Hat even says so: Ergo, similar to Hufflepuff but with different adjoining qualities. Thus, you could've, in theory, been in any one of the Hogwarts Houses, but blood and tradition dictated the fact that you became a Slytherin."

Draco's eyes widened. "Never thought of it that way."

Hermione smirked, a perfect (dare Draco say it) Slytherin smirk. "Obviously you didn't. But that also means I could've been a Slytherin."

Draco grinned. "Imagine that. A Slytherin Hermione Granger."

"Imagine a Gryffindor Draco Malfoy. Eleven-year-old Draco Malfoy in red and gold instead of green and silver. Just think about it." Hermione giggled teasingly.

"Nope, nope nope nope." Draco turned away, plugging his ears.

"Yes! You would've been so cute."

"My parents would've disowned me!"

"Hmm.. Well, you would've been with Gryffindor house for most of the year anyways, so what does it matter?"

"My pride. And my ego." Draco chuckled.

Hermione sighed, rolling her eyes. "The two things that are most valued in Draco Malfoy's life, ladies and gentlemen."

"You're much higher than either one of those, you know that right?"

"Am I though?" Hermione arched a brow, smirking.

"Any day of the week."
