章 24: Chapter 23
Hermione woke up the next morning in her bed. She got dressed and walked into the common room where Draco was already waiting for her in his school robes.'Good morning beautiful.' Draco said.'Good morning.' Hermione said blushing.'Shall we go downstairs?' Draco asked coming towards her.Hermione nodded and Draco gave her a tight hug and a kiss before they walked out of their common room. They held each other's hands, but no one could see it because of their long sleeves, for people who looked at them it just looked like they were walking next to each other very closely. They separated when they arrived in the Great Hall and both sat down on their own house table. Hermione sat down in between Harry and Ron after Harry scoot a bit over so she could sit. She didn't really want to sit next to Ron because she was still a bit pissed off because of the day before.'Good morning.' Hermione said.'Good morning.' Ginny said cheerful, who was sitting in front of Hermione next to Neville.They all ate their breakfast and then went to their first class Defence Against the Dark Arts. Hermione had waited for Draco to finish his breakfast and they walked together first to their dormitory to pack the right books and had a small snog session and then to the classroom. Holding each other's hands. Hermione first walked into the classroom and let Draco's hand lose.She walked over to Ginny and sat down next to her. Hermione saw Draco sitting down next to Blaise who was first looking at her and then back at Draco and she turned to Ginny who was looking at her face.'What?' Hermione asked.'Your lips....' Ginny said.'What about them?' Hermione asked putting her fingers on her lips.'You've been snogging, haven't you? There a bit red and a bit swollen.' Ginny said smirking.'Well er- there is something I want to tell you.' Hermione said softly.'And that is?' She asked curiously.'Well, er- Draco told me two nights ago that he fell in love with me and yesterday morning he asked if I wanted to be his girlfriend.' Hermione said quietly.'OH MY GOSH! HALLELUJAH THAT TOOK SO BLOODY LONG!' Ginny said a bit too loud.'Gin ssssh.' Hermione said fast seeing that every student had stopped talking and had turned towards the two of them.'Nothing to see here people, go back to your own conversation.' Ginny said.'Oh my gosh Mione!' Ginny said excited.Hermione saw Draco still looking at the two of them with a smirk on his face.'I am so happy for you!' Ginny said.'Thank you.' Hermione said smiling.'What was that about?' Harry asked, who was sitting behind them, leaning forwards.'Hermione and Malfoy are together.' Ginny said to her boyfriend so that he only could hear it.'Oh really?' Harry said with a smirk. 'Ginny!' Hermione said.'Can you please shut your bloody mouth?' Hermione said laughing.'Yes of course, but I won't this is amazing!' Ginny said.Hermione looked hopeless at Harry who was just looking at his girlfriend with a smirk.'Well one bright side, you don't have to tell anyone anymore if Ginny is going to be like this all day.' Harry said.'Tell what?' Ron asked who just had walked in.'Oh that...' Ginny started.'I fell out of bed.' Hermione said fast before Ginny could finish her sentence.'That's not very smart.' Ron said laughing.'Yeah I know.' Hermione said.'Oh Hermione, sorry about yesterday.' Ron said.'It's okay.' Hermione said surprised about the fact that Ron apologized for that.'I told you so.' Ginny said when Hermione had turned back.'You told me what?' Hermione asked confused.'That he liked you.' Ginny said.'Gin can you please shut up before the whole school knows it?' Hermione asked.'I'll try.' Ginny said giggling.After all the lessons of that day Hermione went back to the common room. It was Friday so she would just relax for the spare time she had before dinner. Hermione walked through the door that had opened after she said the password and she sat down in one of the armchairs. After a while Draco came into their common room. He looked at Hermione and gave her a smile. He walked over to where she was sitting and gave her a gentle kiss.'So I guess you told Weasley and Potter.' Draco said smiling.'You noticed?' Hermione asked.'Yeah I kind of did.' Draco said smiling giving her another kiss.The weeks flew by and before they knew it, it was just three days before the train would leave to King's Cross station. Hermione was laying on her bed with a book, she had just packed all her things that she would need for the vacation. She thought back at the moment she told Ron that Draco and she were together.
*Flash back*
Hermione walked through the hallway when she saw Ron walking. The only persons who knew that Draco and she were together were at the moment Ginny, Harry, Luna and Neville. And luckily they all had reacted very well, they were all just really happy for her. Draco had told Blaise and Goyle that they were together and Blaise had come towards Hermione to tell that he was perfectly okay with the two of them being together. He said he was happy for them and that he hoped that they would make each other happy. Draco was right that his two friends didn't care about the blood status anymore. But the one thing that was keeping Hermione from telling Ron was his reaction, she knew he wouldn't be very happy with that news, though he was together with Lavender now. Draco had told her that she really needed to tell Ron before Christmas because Draco would send Hermione letters and if Ron would see one of them he would be furious. Hermione calmed herself down and walked over to Ron.'Ron.' She said.Ron turned around and smiled at her.'Hi Hermione, how are you?' Ron asked stopping when he saw her.'Great, but I want to tell you something.' Hermione said.'Okay, what's up?' Ron asked with a small smile.Hermione looked at him and she felt her heart beat raise with every second.'Well er- I wanted to tell you that er- Draco and I are together.' Hermione said the last part really fast.'What did you say at the end? I didn't really heard you right, I thought you said you were together with Malfoy.' Ron said laughing.'Well that is what I said...' Hermione said.Ron stopped laughing immediately.'YOU WHAT?' Ron said loudly.'Draco and I are together.' Hermione said.'ARE YOU BLOODY MAD? HE'S A MALFOY!' Ron shouted.'I am not! And like I said he has changed a lot!' Hermione said.'HE'S A BLOODY DEATH EATER!' Ron shouted.'No he's not, he's an ex death eater!' Hermione corrected him.'WHY WOULD YOU DO SUCH A THING?' Ron asked furiously.'Who is making such a noise?' Ginny asked behind them.She had just passed the corner when she saw her brother's red face.'Oh you told him?' Ginny asked.Hermione turned around and nodded.'Have you told him you're pregnant?' Ginny asked.'YOU ARE WHAT?' Ron asked wildly.'I'M NOT! Calm down Ronald! I'm not pregnant, I haven't even slept with Draco.' Hermione said.Ginny laughed and came towards Hermione and her brother.'I was just kidding.' Ginny said.'That's not funny!' Ron said.'But what does it matter that she's dating Malfoy, if she loves him why not?' Ginny said.'But he's a Malfoy and a bloody Death Eater!' Ron said.'EX- Death Eater.' Hermione corrected him again.Ron looked at the two girls and then stormed away.'He took that one good, don't you think?' Ginny asked putting her arm around her best friends shoulder.'Yeah great.' Hermione said.
*Flash back finished*
Ron hadn't talked to Hermione for a couple of days but he was cooled down now and was just his charming self towards Hermione, though he still didn't liked the idea. Hermione shook the thought away and read further. Then the thought of the day Draco got the letter from his mother came up in her mind, he had been pretty happy when he walked into the common room. Hermione had been reading a book and he had walked towards her and kissed her on the lips.'My mother wrote that she was really happy for us and she would like to meet you at the station.' Draco had said to her.'Really?' Hermione asked surprised.Draco nodded smiling.'That's great.' Hermione said smiling and she gave Draco another kiss.Hermione smiled at that thought and then heard Draco opening the door of her room. She looked up and smiled at her boyfriend.'Would you like to play some chess?' Draco asked.'Oh yeah sure.' Hermione said getting off of her bed and walking towards him.Draco held the door open for Hermione and when she passed him she gave him a kiss on his lips. Draco smiled at her and closed the door behind her after she had pulled away.'We need to watch the time though, for our patrol.' Hermione said.'I know.' Draco said and he sat down on one side of the table where the black chess pieces were standing.Hermione sat down on the other side and they started the game. After a while Draco had won the game again like always.'You're just too good in this game.' Hermione said.'What can I say? A lot of practise.' Draco said, but he didn't really look happy after he thought back.Hermione walked to the other side of the table and sat down on his lap so she could give him a tight hug. 'Do you want to talk about it?' She asked.'I played it a lot with the house elves when the Dark Lord was in our home, I didn't want to be around him, I didn't want to be around anyone in that house because it were all Death Eaters and Snatchers.' Draco said.'That's the past.' Hermione said.Draco looked at her and nodded.'Yeah I know, but it just comes back to my mind every time. Before I was with you it was constant on my mind, now it's you that I think about a lot.' Draco said smiling.Hermione looked at her boyfriend and gave him a warm smile before she kissed him. Draco pulled away and looked at the clock that was hanging on the wall.'It's time.' Draco said and they walked out of their common room. After their patrol they went back to their common room.'I'm going to take a shower.' Draco said kissing Hermione before he walked towards his room.Hermione smiled and walked towards the couch. She sat down but then she heard a sound. She stood back up and saw it was the Daily Prophet. She packed it and sat back down. It wasn't on the front page so she folded it open and saw on the front page a picture of Lucius Malfoy. In big letters above the picture there was standing "Lucius Malfoy, former Death Eater, will have a trial on the 1st of February." Hermione shock and looked back at the picture, this man didn't really look like Lucius, his hair wasn't as it had been, it was platinum blonde but not like Draco's it was filthy and the robes he was wearing were dirty, he was skinny in the face and was really pale, more pale then he had ever been. Has Draco already seen this? It must be, because how would it otherwise lay like this on the couch? Hermione heard Draco stop the shower and after a while he walked into the common room. He walked over to her and gave her a kiss.'Something wrong?' Draco asked worried after he almost immediately pulled back from their kiss.'Have you read the Daily Prophet?' Hermione asked.'Er- no.' Draco said looking down at Hermione.'Here look.' Hermione said handing him the newspaper.Hermione looked at Draco as he read the article, she couldn't see any expression on Draco's face. It scared her a bit, because she didn't know what he was feeling.'Draco?' Hermione asked after she saw that Draco had finished reading.Draco looked down at her and then walked to the fireplace, he threw the newspaper in the fire and looked at it. Hermione stood up and wrapped her arms around his waist, giving him a tight hug as she looked at the picture of Lucius Malfoy that was laying in the fire now. Draco put his arms around Hermione and he rested his chin on her hair.'He will probably get a Dementor's kiss.' Draco said softly into her hair.'Or a lifetime imprisonment in Azkaban.' Draco added softly.'What do you hope?' Hermione asked looking up.Draco looked into her eyes and Hermione noticed a sadness in his.'He deserves both or maybe even worse.' Draco said.'He's an awful person and he hasn't changed a bit.' Draco said.Hermione looked back at the fire and sighed. She didn't want that Draco had to go through this, she wanted to get the pain away from him, but she couldn't. She kissed Draco on the lips and didn't let him lose. Draco pulled away and looked down at her, he gave her a small smile. Draco gave Hermione another kiss and this was more passionate. He lifted her up and walked towards the couch pressing his lips against hers. Draco sat down on the couch with Hermione on his lap and he put both of his hands on her face. He pulled away and looked into her brown eyes. Hermione could see that sadness and she could tell that he was scared, scared of what would happen, scared of the future. Hermione pressed her lips again against his and wrapped her arms around his neck. Draco pulled away and kissed her neck softly and gentle. Eventually when Draco tried to go further, Hermione realised that she wasn't ready for that yet and she pulled away from their kiss.'Not now.' Hermione said softly.Draco nodded and he wrapped his arms around her giving her a tight hug, Hermione hugged him back. 'I think I'm going to bed.' Draco said.Hermione nodded and got off of his lap. She packed Draco's hand and pulled him up. Draco gave her one last kiss and then walked towards his bedroom. Hermione walked to her own one and got ready to go to bed. She was thinking of Draco the whole time, she didn't want to see that sadness in his eyes, the pain. She wanted to see him happy like he had been the past few weeks. When they were having a snowball fight with each other that ended up with snogging in the snow. Draco had fallen down and had pulled Hermione with him to the ground. When they were making homework and that also ended up in snogging. Hermione had brushed her teeth in the bedroom and she lay down in bed. She bit on her lip and thought of the Draco that had come into the common room with the letter of his mother. The Draco who was sitting next to her at breakfast, who had laughed with her friends. Then she thought back at the moment that they had walked into the Great Hall together, holding hands for the first time, so that everyone could see it.
*Flash back*
'Are you sure?' Draco asked.'Yes I'm positive.' Hermione said looking up at him.She gave him a smile and a quick kiss.'Okay, are you ready?' Draco asked.'I think so.' Hermione said.'At least you've got that Gryffindor bravery.' Draco said.Hermione laughed a little and then they started to walk, the doors of the Great Hall opened and they walked in holding each other's hands. It was two days after she had told Ron about them. Draco had laughed about the fact Ginny had been "helping" Hermione with the conversation. 'Telling you were pregnant, I really wanted to see his face!' Draco had said wiping the tears away of his cheeks of all the laughter he had done when Hermione told him.They walked into the Great Hall and a few students looked up, but then they said to the person next to them that they had to look and in a finger snap it was silent in the Great Hall, except for one person who was still talking, Ginny was telling Harry about something and then she noticed that everybody was silent. She turned around and saw Hermione and Draco coming towards them. Ginny scoot over to make place for them and they sat down. Everybody stared at them and a few started to eat again. Seamus had come towards Hermione and Draco and stopped behind them. Hermione and Draco turned their face so they could look at him.'I just wanted to let you know, that we're okay with you two dating, I mean you've been sharing a common room from the beginning of the year, you could almost predict it.' Seamus said.Dean nodded behind him and smiled at them. Everybody of the 7th and 8th years students were thinking the same way as Seamus and Dean, they knew that Draco really had changed, because they had classes with him, but the students around the Slytherin table weren't really happy, just Blaise and Goyle were smiling at them and a few others from there. A few Ravenclaw students and a few Hufflepuffs had been glaring at them, but the most of these houses were just smiling at them. The first, second, third and fourth years Gryffindor were not happy with it, though some gave them a smile too. After a while most of the glares were gone and everybody was just smiling at them, the older Gryffindors had told the younger once that Draco had changed so they were cool with it and so had done the older Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff students. Everyone knew now in the school that they were dating and most of them were happy for them, well except for most of the Slytherins.
*Flash back finished*
Hermione smiled to herself. She had been pretty nervous before they walked in. She knew not everyone would like the idea of one of the Golden Trio dating an ex Death Eater. But Draco had changed and everyone could see it. Hermione had been surprised that she hadn't heard anything of Parkinson, because of the scene she made when they weren't even dating, but that was because Pansy had gone home earlier then everyone else because of problems at home. Hermione thought about the look Draco had on his face when he read the newspaper. Hermione got out of bed and walked over through the bathroom to his. She opened the door and saw his platinum blonde hair laying on one of the pillows.'Draco?' She asked.'Yes, something wrong love?' Draco asked worried.'No I just thought, maybe you didn't want to be alone at the moment.' Hermione said.She could see that Draco smiled and he scoot over. Hermione closed the door behind her and walked in the dark towards the bed, she laid down and turned towards Draco after she pulled up the blankets. He put his arm around her and he smiled pressing his forehead softly against hers.'Thank you.' He said and he gave her a gentle kiss on her lips.Hermione smiled and closed her eyes, letting the warmth of Draco's body, warm hers up.
