A dim and oddly flickering cluster of starlight caught Duncan's attention.
The faint light was subtly different from the surrounding stars, its ethereal and weak glow like a transparent phantom, and its flickering was such that it seemed ready to dissipate at any moment—Duncan had seen faint flashes in this chaotic space before, but even if they were weak, they did not have this illusory and fading character.
He frowned slightly.
Weak flashes often meant a body that had just died, but what did the simultaneous weakness and near-transparent illusory feeling signify?
He reached out his finger and gently touched the point of light.
The next second, he felt his consciousness abruptly travel across a vast, endless boundary, projected from the Homeloss onto an entirely new body, cold and numb sensations spreading from his limbs to his entire body. After the numbness faded, he began to feel the touch of his skin and the slow beating of his heart.
