章 594: Two Consecutive Questions

Sebastian Shaw was like a fierce tiger, while the inexperienced rookies like Raven, Hank, and the others were harmless little lambs. At this moment, the tiger had entered the flock, and naturally, the lambs were all subdued.

Off-screen, Erik couldn't help but shake his head, thinking to himself that this group of young novices really couldn't outplay the cunning Sebastian Shaw. If only he were there—maybe he couldn't kill Shaw, but he would definitely tear a piece out of him!

At that moment, the video paused, and a new question popped up:

[Who among the following will be swayed by Sebastian Shaw and join him?]

[A: Mystique (Raven)

B: Beast (Hank McCoy)

C: Angel (Salvadore)

D: Havok (Alex Summers).]

Off-screen, Erik took a deep breath and turned to look at Logan Howlett, asking in a serious tone, "What do you think the answer to this question should be?"

Logan shrugged and didn't answer directly. Instead, he posed a question in return: "Who do you think is the coward among these four?"

"Hmph!" Erik snorted coldly at the question, his face stern. "Logan, do you think that if any of them join Sebastian Shaw, they are cowards? No, you're wrong. Shaw is a complete scumbag, but I have to admit, his speech just now was quite compelling."

Logan remained noncommittal. If he had a cigar right now, he would surely take a deep drag and then blow a thick cloud of smoke in Erik's direction. "Listen, I don't care what you think, but surrendering to the enemy is a sign of weakness, got it?"

Erik frowned, finding this stubborn guy somewhat annoying, and chose to ignore him, instead focusing on the question. From his perspective, Sebastian Shaw was undoubtedly an advocate of an extreme mutant supremacy theory. Given the current context of mutants being discriminated against, ostracized, and oppressed by human society, this theory had a strong appeal. Even Erik had to admit that, despite Shaw being his mortal enemy, there was some truth in what the bastard said.

Due to his childhood experiences—being both a mutant and of Jewish descent—Erik had suffered double discrimination. There was no such thing as two negatives making a positive; only double the oppression and persecution. So, it was completely understandable that Erik, growing up in such an environment, would lean towards extreme mutant supremacy.

Based on this reasoning, Erik analyzed the backgrounds and experiences of the four options. He first ruled out Raven. Although Mystique had a tragic childhood of abandonment, she was fortunate to have met Charles Xavier, who took care of her. Despite being sensitive about her appearance, she was unlikely to be completely swayed by Sebastian Shaw's words.

The remaining three options all seemed plausible. Hank McCoy was also insecure about his mutant abilities, which resulted in his unusual appearance, while Salvadore and Alex both came from humble backgrounds.

After some thought, Erik Lehnsherr decided to choose D. Alex had a history of imprisonment, and his personality, as shown in the video, seemed somewhat solitary—he looked like someone who could be swayed by Sebastian Shaw.

On the other side, Peter Parker and Wanda were also analyzing and discussing the question. Their line of reasoning was quite similar to Erik's. They believed that Sebastian Shaw's persuasion would likely appeal to someone who had experienced discrimination from human society and who also felt insecure about their mutant identity. They thought the B option was more likely.

Soon, the countdown for the question began. Both teams quickly hit the answer button, and in the end, Team A won the race. Peter chose B, while Erik followed his own instincts and chose D.

When the countdown ended, the correct answer was revealed:

[Team A answered incorrectly; players Peter Parker and Wanda Maximoff each lose 4 points. Team B answered incorrectly; players Erik Lehnsherr and Logan Howlett each lose 1 point!]

Both teams had guessed wrong—the correct answer was C.

Erik shook his head. There was nothing he could do about getting it wrong; he wasn't entirely sure in the first place. The main problem was that the video didn't provide enough information. Aside from Raven and Hank, the other two were barely present, so getting this question right was a matter of luck to a large extent.

Neither team had good luck this time. As they waited for the video to continue and reveal the answer, another question suddenly popped up:

[Who among the following will sacrifice themselves in the fight against Sebastian Shaw?]

[A: Mystique (Raven)

B: Havok (Alex Summers)

C: Banshee (Sean Cassidy)

D: Darwin (Armando Muñoz).]

This was the second consecutive question. Erik raised his eyebrows and began to think. He figured that the A option could be ruled out first. The question clearly stated that the person sacrificed themselves while fighting against Sebastian Shaw. After Shaw displayed his formidable power, anyone who still dared to stand up and fight him would undoubtedly need great courage.

In Erik's view, the Mystique shown in the video wasn't brave enough yet. Similarly, the C option could also be ruled out, leaving the answer to be a choice between B and D.

"I think the answer should be B. Among these young rookies, Alex has shown the most courage," Erik said, rubbing his chin thoughtfully.

He had noticed that when Sebastian Shaw made eye contact with the group, Alex didn't avoid his gaze, and his eyes revealed a certain fierceness.

Logan crossed his arms and smirked. "You're right. Last question was about a coward; this one's about the brave. Alex isn't bad, but I think D—Armando—is also a strong candidate. Trust me, when it comes to judging someone's bravery, I'm better at it than you are!"

Erik scoffed, hinting at something as he replied, "Sometimes bravery alone isn't enough, Logan. Haven't you learned that by now?"

Logan had become the poster boy for toughness, certainly brave enough. But in the previous glimpse into the future, the brave and fearless Wolverine was ultimately toyed with by a cunning ordinary man with no superhuman abilities.

Erik's words were clearly meant to hit a sore spot, and Logan bristled, his moustache twitching in anger. "Fine! Let's see who's the smart one! The answer is definitely D!"

Peter and Wanda ended up making the same choice as Erik, believing that Havok (Alex Summers) was the most likely correct answer.

As the countdown began, all four players quickly hit the answer buttons. This time, it was Team B that won the race. Logan, beating Erik to it, confidently called out the answer: D.
