They have reached the border town by the evening. Strangely, they hadn't encountered any monsters or beasts throughout their travel route. North was notorious for being a harsh place for living beings not just because of its climate, they had an enormous amount of monsters that threatened intelligent beings like humans, orcs, and trolls.
Cynthia rubbed her gloves to warm her hands up due to the harsh wind. The wind whipped them like a thorny whip full of spikes. However, they weren't fazed by this cold temperature. Licht felt refreshed because he was proficient in ice magic compared to his other elements.
This wasn't that strange. Richard had an ice element, hence he had more chances to train his ice magic.
His expression lightened as he relaxed his body to feel the temperature. As for others, they showed different reactions. Daemon was grinning while Mikael hid his face and hands to ready himself. Cold weather was a terrible element for the archers.
Regina took out her magic gloves and put them on. She pulled down her hat which was oddly big and fancy. She took her map and handed it to Leah who was skilled in scouting according to her biography.
Leah immediately created an easier route to the forest. She marked down the important details on the map and handed the map back.
Regina nodded and said loudly.
" There is no inn in this town. Border patrols have their quarters and we cannot interrupt them. Also, don't tell this mission to others. This is a secret mission."
Licht looked at his squad members with a stern gaze. He gestured for them to move quickly to the destination. Otherwise, a blizzard might appear from nowhere since today's sky was dark and cloudy.
Regina nodded at his command as she followed them from behind due to her role. As a super long ranger, she had to be in the rear to oversee all situations within her view.
Leah walked beside Licht as she scanned around. Her red hair was covered with frost and snow. Even so, she didn't care about it.
" Vice-captain, there is a frozen river ahead. We had to be careful there because rivers are inhabited by other living beings."
Regina who heard this raised her eyebrows. She lifted her rifle and looked through her scope. Although she was an advanced markswoman, her vision was obstructed by the heavy snow. She frowned as she commanded.
" Let's sleep near the woods. Everyone take out your tents and rations. We can't cross the river during this hour."
Licht nodded as he reached for his suitcase. He took out a small bag-like thing and threw it down.
Bang*
He nodded with satisfaction as he looked at his squad members. Fortunately, everyone had experience with the tent. They skillfully built their tent and took out their food.
Licht got up from his seat to gather the dry wood for the fire. He looked at Mikael because he seemed to have a lot of experience with the outdoors.
Mikael noticed his gaze and got up from his seat. He reached out to his bow and quiver. He carried his bow and hung his quiver in his belt.
" I understand. We will gather the woods."
Regina nodded as she chewed her jerky. She gazed at Daemon and ordered him to cook. Apparently, this man had a high cooking skills in his arsenal thanks to his father who was famous for being a grill master.
Daemon shrugged his shoulders and headed to gather some herbs for the dinner. Meanwhile, Cynthia and Leah were preparing for the fire. They gathered stones to isolate the campfire and connected a few wires around them. However, they didn't know that they were under eyes of the one of the greatest being in the north.
There was a legend in the north. The legend said that frost wolves had a powerful ancestor which was powerful enough to slay one of the old gods. His eyes were deep blue like the night and his fur was like a moon in the pitch blackness.
This wolf led a powerful pack that destroyed anything on their road. They were so powerful that even gods avoided their movements. Bizarrely, this wolf had disappeared one day with its tribe. No one ever saw their shadows again in the snow.
