Avery's pov;
It is now evening, I went to my room directly after coming back from the date. Luckily Heizel was not home when I arrived but she canes back a while ago , I have been avoiding her actively because I am not sure I can lie to her straight in the eyes but I will have to lie eventually. If I have to admit this to anyone it is Ethera and her alone.
"Your grace there is an imperial officer outside our gate , come see" Hygai informs from outside the room. What did I do this time?
I stand up and am escorted by Hygai to the gate , Heizel is already there waiting.
I wonder what this is about. The officer has a scroll in his hand so I am guessing this is an edict from the king. What is Tobias doing exactly?
The officer bows to me in respect and then he opens the edict.
"All bow before the royal edict" We all do as we are told even the maids.
"By the royal seal and authority of the King , lady Ethera of house Yuril who has shown great diligence , empathy , bravery and other virtues a noble lady would posses shall as of today be given the title of Princess consort as a reward for her exemplary actions and as a sign of gaining the favor of his majesty. This is the command of his majesty the King" I walk towards him to receive the edict which basically holds a lot of power and how Ethera holds a higher rank , that is really great.
I mean it was not supposed to happen according to history accounts but hey this is happy news for Ethera , she will be thrilled to hear this when she comes back.
The officer goes after handing over the edict and the maids keep congratulating me , Hygai seems over the moon for he has been waiting on this promotion for a while now.
This is a moment of glory for this house.
Unfortunately this wasn't supposed to happen.
In history it is recorded that lady Ethera stays as so until her death . No promotions , no favor from the King, she keeps being bullied by the other concubines for the rest of her life basically.
This is a major altering of the story and it is all my fault.
I think this is the surprise Tobias was talking about , after our date he must have been thinking about me a lot and of the moments we shared . He seemed a lot more fond of me today which I should have taken as a sign of alteration of the story but dumb ass me just wanted to enjoy the moment as it was , now my selfish actions have led to possible changes in history which will affect the future as we know it . What have I done?
I have to fix this as soon as possible.
I have to reverse everything and go back to my life before I mess anything else up.
The next morning…
Okay today I have to find that cousin of mine and destroy the amulet she has to put everything back on track. No distraction is allowed for me today, focus Avery , focus.
I go for breakfast before going and what do I find on my table? Flowers , daisies to be exact . My favorite flowers and when I say my I mean my favorites not Ethera, I may or may have not let my tongue slip and told Tobias I love daisies instead of using the usual roses that Ethera probably repeated to him a hundred times.
And this is when I say that he may have an idea that I am not Ethera because he has been doing out of the box things that he would never do with her and he has been paying attention to the second things I tell him which are the real facts about me and not what I use to disguise myself as Ethera.
To some extent that is cute but then it is even more chaotic because if he is falling in love with me who is an imposter then the whole story will alter even more. So now I have to avoid him even more.
"These are very beautiful but I thought Ethera liked roses, why are these daisies?" Heizel asks while eyeing me suspiciously , oh no what do I say now?
"Um I don't know , maybe he wanted to switch it up a bit . Trying new things is good for couples" I say scratching the back of my head.
"Okay I guess , any plans for today? Is the King passing by again?" She asks
"I don't think so . I am just going to walk around or something nothing much too do here anyways" I say and she nods walking away.
She has not said anything about the rank promotion and she seems on edge with me almost as if she is accusing me indirectly of doing something wrong which I am but I would prefer she doesn't meddle too much , I don't want to destroy her good image of me *sigh.
After breakfast I go to the Queen's quarters once again to search for Helga and if I don't find her and get the thing done in discretion then I will just send for her back at my quarters.
I pass by the secret passage once more and find myself in the same hallway as last time but this time I see two people talking in a corner, from the back I can see a female and the man in front is facing me but I can't see from my position.
I walk closer and hide behind a pillar and then peek.
I gasp it is Helton and Helga? These two know each other. How? And why?
Let me try listening to what they are talking about , maybe this can be a clue to what this girl has been up to and maybe then I can prevent whatever it is.
"Remember just one drop in her tea is enough. Just like last time make sure to not leave any traces and I shall be rid of the Queen once and for all. Now we will see if it doesn't crash our dear little King" Helton says to Helga.
The Queen? She dies too? I didn't read that but it can be.
Why is Helga helping him though? What is she getting from this?
"Oh and I still need you to keep a close eye on Ethera , she seems odd. Something is off about her and I have a bad feeling, if you finds anything suspicious with her most probably involving magic you report that to me immediately and I will get rid of her" He continue.
Now he wants to get rid of Ethera too? Man is really taking this whole killing people for the throne way too seriously.
"I will do just that, count on me uncle" Helga answers.
Uncle? Since when? This is becoming weirder and weirder by the second.
Now since they are here I can't just interrupt and take her so I have to rush back home and call for her. This is good for her because she has been tasked with spying on me.
I will take the amulet when she least expects it.
