章 22: Trap
The group had started to become more efficient as they targeted smaller groups and avoided larger groups thanks to the cooperation of Blush and Glow.
With the additional support of Blush who provided extra support at times they were able to get over any more difficult groups of animals as she used some openings to stab and pin them to the ground with her pike.
Blush collected many types of different plants and samples of the animals while she was following the group so she had more than enough gains as while the forest had been partly explored, it was far too dangerous for ordinary groups to enter without a strong escort so retrieving materials from the area was especially difficult.
Some that she found had been ones that were quite rare or were not yet identified so she was very excited to be able to experiment with them. 'I wonder how long this task will last.'
Glow was still taking notes and drawing out the details of the map to take back while the group members were all searching for something specific in the area which could be brought back and sold at a high price.
Blush stopped in her tracks and released her spell to check the surroundings then her eyes widened. "Stop, we have been found already. We have walked into a trap this time. If we wish to overcome this then we need to act like we will fall into the trap but when they attack, we should be prepared to strike all at once without a single mistake. Beware of being bitten and scratched as they may end your life with just one."
Whisk looked towards her and nodded then everyone prepared their weapons readily as they caught sight of a raptor sitting out in the open and it acted as if it did not yet spot them.
The group slowly approached it without making a sound as they were ready to land a killing blow to it but then there was a rustling in the nearby long grass in several directions.
Blush knew that it was time so she turned and raised her pike towards one side. "Now!"
She leaned back and pushed the back of the pike into the ground a little then pointed it upwards as a raptor jumped out of the long grass just as the pike had been secured in place. "Got you."
The typical habits and hunting methods of raptors were to use one to attract the attention of their prey then the others would use the blind spots to set an ambush.
Many strong predators would be tricked by such a method and would be taken down by them so they frequently used that method.
It had been used against the group but Blush had sensed them earlier and gave everyone a warning.
The raptor fell onto the pike and was impaled but it struggled to take Blush down with it but in the next moment, the sword was removed and it pierced its throat which quickly ended its life before it was returned back to its sheath. "That is one."
Blush turned over the raptor so she could pull out the pike as quickly as possible to help the others.
Glow was laying on the ground covering his head desperately in the middle while two raptors were being held off by the two shields but it looked like the shields were not going to last long.
Several arrows pierced the bodies of the two raptors but they had high vitality which let them still be able to move around.
Whisk took an opportunity to deal a deadly wound with his heavy sword as one was blocked. "Time to end you."
Spatula used his quickness and timing to cut several lighter wounds on the other raptor which lead to it losing a lot of blood and it had been stabbed in the side of its leg so its balance was shaken. "Just a little more."
One of the shields was broken and one of the raptors almost made it close enough to bite the head of one of those holding them back while the other turned its attention to Spatula who was harassing it.
Just as things were taking a turn for the worst, a pike came flying towards the incoming raptor which impaled it before it could get to its target then it was cut down by Whisk.
Blush was quick to retrieve her pike and she watched as the arrows were fired many hit the neck of the remaining raptor.
Before it could put up a final struggle, it was hit back with a shield bash which knocked it back into the path of the two swords in Spatula's hands.
Her was forced to let go of his swords as it fell down with little energy to struggle anymore then the group made sure to land the killing blows.
Spoon held the sword and broken remains of his shield and turned to Blush. "Thank you for saving me."
Peeler thanked her too. "You made things easier this time."
Whisk overlooked the remains of the battle and frowned. "Is there anything?"
Tong and Grater came forward and said. "We will scout a little ahead and search the area. Is it safe to do so Blush?"
Blush nodded. "Yes it is safe."
She detected no life signs which could possibly pose any threat to them so she stood and waited as they went off on their own but when they came back, they were very excited. "We found something good."
Whisk looked relieved. "Then we can leave quickly once we have found something to take back."
Meanwhile Blush was busy taking some samples from the raptors dead bodies then placed them into her bag after they were properly sealed. 'I wonder what they have found for them to be so excited?'
