章 2: The Never After - 1
Staring at that system message, I couldn't believe my eyes.
'Please don't be what I think it is, please don't be what I think it is!'
At this point, salty water was already coming out of my eyes, albeit, at the moment, very slowly, like water in a cup of glass, just spilling a little bit over the edge, before the surface tension held it back.
But then, I literally started to break down, crying as I slowly died from the loss of my heart and the hole in my chest.
Then, all was dark, before a light appeared in front of my vision.
But no, it wasn't some goddess coming to save me, or the door to the pathway of reincarnation.
No, it was my worst fears realized.
[Resetting...]

[Transporting host to 2 years before the start of the main story.]

Seeing this, I experienced a certain sense of deja vu.
After all, I had seen all these messages once before, when I had first been transmigrated.
But this time, I was seeing all of them as clear as a cool spring day even as tears kept welling up to blur my vision.
Hoping that it wasn't so, I waited, hoping that there would be something different this time.

My expression just couldn't change anymore.
It was already pass the point of being called an extremely depressed expression.
My expression basically shouted that I had already given up on living.
I started sobbing in this black space after seeing this.
I kneeled, I arched my back and cried out in this dark space, screaming in agony, as my hands tensed and curled in the air, as if I was a blasphemer cursing the gods.
"I DON'T WANT TO DO THIS ANYMORE! I DID WHAT YOU WANTED, I BECAME THE MOST EVIL CREATURE ON THIS PLANET, I LITERALLY KILLED ALL OF MY LOVED ONES! WHY ARE YOU MAKING THEM REMEMBER ALL THE BAD THINGS I DID TO THEM? THEY NEVER DESERVED IT! ONLY I SHOULD BEAR THE PAIN!"
"WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?!"
I screamed so loud that my jaws started cracking, but the pain of my sadness never stopped, and my tears never stopped flowing.
My voice died down, but then slowly rebounded to full volume.
"I could have at least been a good brother, friend, or fiancee this time around, I don't care anymore about my life! But why would you make them remember their AGONY?"
I hung my neck down as tears flowed down my face like rivers, as I harshly tried to wipe them off and stop the flow with the heels of my hands.
"I *sob* can't take it *sob* anymore..."
"Daughter, *sob* I'm sorry, but Daddy *sniff* can't do bad things anymore, *hick* he's too broken to continue *sob* hurting other people..."
"Daddy's sorry for the pain that Daddy will cause you, his angel, but, he just can't hurt people anymore..."
I was able to get these last words out in almost a whisper.
The sounds of my last words and my crying faded into the darkness as it completely engulfed me.
I spent the rest of my time in the dark space pulling my hair out and falling into a pit of my own despair.

<Caroline's POV>
"It still doesn't seem like he's going to wake up any time soon." I said as I checked if Callian was pretending to be asleep or not.
"Good." That was the only thing Sis said.
"Do you think he remembered?"
"The other timeline? No, I don't think so, why would he try and commit suicide if he did?"
"But then, why do you think he tried to commit suicide?"
"..."
We both stayed in silence for a while, pondering this question.
Finally, as the sun was setting, and we were about to retire to our rooms, Sis said,
"I honestly... don't know..."
Even though I knew that she was answering the question that I had posed a few hours earlier, I thought she would have come up with a plausible explanation by now.
I had hoped that she would be able to put my heart at ease, but it seemed like neither of us could figure out the reason for the cruel method of suicide that Callian had employed.
"We can just think about it again, tomorrow."
"Yes... Goodnight, sister."
"Goodnight."
We entered our respective rooms, and then both headed to sleep a second later, or, that was what we both thought of the other.
...
The next morning, we both came out of our rooms, and were shocked once we saw each other.
"Y-you too?"
"Yeah..."
"..."
"Hahahahaha!"
We both started laughing because, as for some reason, we had been on the same brain wave last night.
After some time laughing, we both got serious again.
"What stage did you get to?"
"Only partial absorption."
"Yeah, me to."
We both spent some time absorbing this information, before heading to Callian's room.
Stopping in front of the door, Sis asked,
"Do you need any blood yet?"
"No, and well, you know my preferences."
"So still, just young males?"
"Yep, for some reason, female blood just tastes disgusting, kinda like sewer water."
"Yeah yeah, I mean, you can always take Callian's blood, he does fit all your requirements."
"..."
I made a face at her, almost asking "Really?" out loud.
"Okay, okay, I'm sorry, bad joke."
Opening the door, we walked in with that playful spirit still around us, but then, it became deathly silent.
There he was, sitting up, staring into empty space with his one remaining eye, as tears constantly flowed down his cheeks.
"I'm so sorry..." We heard him whisper, seemingly directed to no one.
Then, I saw that in his hand was a knife.
What happened next was all seen in slow motion by me.
I watched as he stabbed the knife towards his own heart, the seconds inching by.
Rushing forward, I knew I had to save him no matter what, so that he could finally answer my burning question.
'Why?'
