章 5: Chapter 5
"GGRrrrrrrrr GGRrrrrrrrr," officer Stone mobile phone vibrates. He excuses himself from the meeting to his office to pickup. "It's a fear that my wife was almost a victim of homicide but upto now no clues about someone who did it" Mr James well known to be Dodo's father tells officer Stone on phone, "do you have any information yet?" "Am sorry but we're still investigating the matter Sir," he replies. "I need a meeting with you officer Stone," he requests aggressively. "Alright sir, I will be free at 8pm hope you'll be at home!" he schedules. "I don't want to meet you at my place. It's better we play golf together tomorrow at 1pm," Mr James reschedules.
Lala arrives at the mansion to commence her daily duties but this time she is two and a half hours late. She walks upstairs to meet mother in her bedroom in a hurry. As usual whenever she gets to the door, she knocks and opens for herself at the same time. Since mother has a condition that limits her from accessing different stuff. "I tried reaching you on phone and it's off! What happened?" Dodo asks Lala immediately she opens up mother's bedroom door. Dodo is inside already. "I'm truly sorry, this has never happened. I promise it will never happen again," Lala apologizes for late coming. "You know mom needs to take her medication on time" Dodo says with a lot of comcern, "we were so much worried about you." "I am truly sorry," her voice tone means it. "It's alright my daughter" Mom says, am actually happy nothing has happened to you." "I was so worried about you mom, I know sister Dodo has to be out working by now," she states. "You know I have never left home before you arrive," Dodo responds. "Is it the boyfriend?!" Mom wonders in question. Lala keeps quiet pretending she has not heard anything as she makes guilty faces. "I thought it," mom adds smiling. "Is it true Lala," Dodo asks. "Come-on sister am so sorry" Lala nearly cries, "it won't happen again." "You didn't have to switch off your phone anyway!" She blames her. "What's wrong with one switching of a phone when is having a good time?" Mom speaks her perspective. "Can you stop blaming her?" mom warns Dodo on how she takes things personal. "I'm not blaming her mom, I'm only trying to show concern," Dodo states. "Don't tempt me to talk about your behaviours when you're in love," mom stings her own daughter. "Truth is I didn't switch off my phone," Lala tries to explain. "I forgot to charge last night and the battery went completely off. This is why I'm even late. I missed my alarm," she explains to them. "Do not mind Lala, you don't have to explain yourself," mother puts a statement. "She forgot to charge because she had to take care of her man. Understood?" Mother emphasises as she always has the right words to say.
"Since Lala is here, let her take over. You have several meetings to attend to" at the company," mom says to her daughter Dodo. "It's already too late mom! I postponed all the meetings," says Dodo. "I'm dedicating the whole of today to taking care and spending precious time with you mom," she gladly adds. "Lala, I suggest you take a day off today, after all you also need time for yourself. How's that?" With care, Dodo asks. "True my darling," Mom is saying something. "It is even written all over her face that she had a long night" she supplements, "I don't want to see her faint infront of me." "Okay, mother and sister, thanks for being considerate. Let me take my leave now until tomorrow, bye bye." Lala pick her phone and calls Jiang to pick her up.
Mr Yang takes a break after a session at the gym, he then goes to his locker to find his belongings and the first thing he gets to look at, as any one else could do is his phone. A text message reading 'Emergency.' displays immediately he opens the phone. According to his facial expression, it is obvious that he knows who and where the message is coming from. At the same period of time his girlfriend Lala calls. He sets himself by clearing off the tough face and switches it with the jolly one.
"Hi Love," he talks. "Hello Mr Yang," she responds. "Can we meet?" She asks. "No problem, hope all is well! " He wonders in question. All will be well when I see your handsome face," she talks like a baby. "Okay! Any time any where, am all yours" so calm he says, "meet me a the gym, better we catch lunch together". "I love you so much," romantically she says. "Love you more Lala," all with passion, he replies.
"I think she's going to meet her boyfriend," Dodo tells mom. "Dodo," mother exclaims. "So, when did you become a secret agent or an undercover?" She asks. "Obviously! young love is addictive. Lala is young and very nice. Besides, we all know what she has gone through. On the other hand, she has never even tried a relationship before. We have to be more considerate and supportive to her," Mother says with a lot of compassion. "Mom, the truth is I love Lala with all my heart. You know how obsessed I am to make her ends meet. The fact that I'm not a very emotional person doesn't mean I'm not loving and caring to her," Dodo clarifies. "I don't want her to get hurt. Men are not to be trusted mom. I think I need to meet her boyfriend," she gets more obligated. "How many men have you had so far to talk like that about men?" aggressively, mother wants to know.
"Anyways, it is still too early to ask for a meeting with her boyfriend. Let their relationship grow," mother cautions. "Not a bad idea though," but still supportive.
At the restaurant down town, Lala is having a good time with her beloved boyfriend Yang. "I know you're surprised to meet at this time" she states, "In your chest it is very difficult for me to wake up early." "So, I was two and a half hours late then my kind bosses granted me a day of rest. Besides, I was so exhausted and I believe they noticed," she gives him a shy smile.
"Your bosses seem so compassionate by nature," he gives her a wink in response. 'They are the best thing that has ever happened to me. Don't feel jeolousy, You inclusive," she flatters. "Are you feeling well? You look pale," she asks. "Oh Really! I didn't know. Am just exhausted," he unsteadily answers. "You know what? I want to start taking good care of you. Please permit me," she politely requests. "Honey please, there is nothing to worry about. I just need some rest, then I will be fine." humbleness smiling, he convinces her. "We need to take our food, it's getting cold," he positions her face to look direct into his, lifting up her chin with a touch of a finger. Lala says to Yang, "I have never felt what I'm feeling when I'm with you. I have never had an affair before. If love is a disease, I need to be admitted because I'm all affected deep. I love you so much Mr Yang." Both Lala's face and voice displays deep affection on speaking words of love.
He picks a folk packed with noodles from his plate and feeds her. They both continue to enjoy their lunch in joy.
Back to the mansion, dad comes to the small table where his wife are daughter are sitting. He joins them to enjoy lunch together as a family. The way Dodo's face twists when she looks at her father explains she doesn't want to share any conversation with him after all that went down last night. As soon as her father airs out a word, her smile and the conversation she has been sharing with her mother fade. He picks a plate to serve himself and Dodo is extra silent. Father knows exactly why his daughter is behaving the way she's behaving. "I smell a rat" mother says after observing both of them, "can someone explain to me what's going on?" It doesn't seem like any of them would want to share the secret behind their silent battle. "Hey, am I talking to someone here?" Mother yells in question. "I think I have to be in my room," their daughter angrily stands up from the table and leaves. "Darling, can you please explain to me what is going on. Why is our daughter acting strange after seeing you?" Mother curiously asks. "It's alright nothing to worry about" replying Mr James saying, "she's going to be fine."
The next day at the golf course is Mr James in his combination of white pair of shorts, white T shirts and white shoes on white socks, not forgetting his white cap and sunglasses, going for a break after playing with several members for two hours from 11am. He goes into the shade from the play grounds as officer Stone also walks towards him. He then picks a mineral water from the chiller and finds himself a sit. It looks like he has already noticed that officer Stone is coming from a distance, so he stands up to welcome him in respect. They both greet as a sign of respect and finally grab a sit. Am glad you're here on time," Mr James says. "Your call cannot be taken for granted" officer Stone states, " I'm pleased to meet with you." "A lot of work is under conduct including the investigation about your wife's incident" he explains, "the investigation has not yet concluded." "Time always opens anything hidden," Mr James in response. "I expected my wife's incident to be handled efficiently. You've never given any feedback showing your consistency on the matter. We trust you officer Stone, hope you know that you're family to us! It takes only a one slip for question marks to arise. You're a professional officer Stone, I don't want it to happen," Mr James concludes that he will wait a little but not longer. Have you grabbed lunch already?" Mr James asks. "I was thinking of lunch after here," officer Stone replies in interest. "Let's go and catch it together," says Mr James on standing. They both walk away sharing more conversations.
At night as Lala waits for a few minute to leave. Three of them are sitting in the living room enjoying each other company. Dodo says she really misses her fiancée Don. "Talking about that when did he say he is going to return," mother inquires. "I wanted to ask him but his line is not going through," Dodo replies. "Is he safe," Lala asks in a curious manner.
Why not! he is a very big and well known person with security, if anything happens we're the first to know " Mother says, "my son is very safe." "Mom, Something tells me something is not right, I'm a bit scared," Dodo worriedly speaks. "You know how stubborn he gets sometimes. I urge you not to worry," Mom tries to calm her daughter down. "I understand mom, but it's been three months since he left. I usually hear from him every week when he goes on safaris but three months without any communication, is too much mom," she sniffs, whipping off tear drops on her face. Lala picks a handkerchief and gives it to her and she taps her by the back in comfort. "It's a comfort to know that I have you to rely on in such a situation" she shows gratitude, "thanks Lala for being a good sister to me." "It's alright sister Dodo. I think he is busy with businesses but he's going to come back. Besides, he knows he has a beautiful fiancée back home," Lala gives a hopeful speech to her closest friend Dodo.
"That's right. Which kind of man, if not bewitched can abandon a beautiful woman like my daughter?" Mom supplements, "as soon as he arrives here, he has to tell me why he has made my daughter cry."
"Am truly sorry sister Dodo but you have to stop shading tears. Everything will be fine," Lala gives her strength and hope.
At the warehouse, Cobra and Python accompanied by well equipped military soldiers are monitoring the activity of offloading cargo boxes from carrier semitrailers late in the night. After a few hours, Don well known as Lala's boyfriend in his fake name Mr Yang arrives with high rank government officials in a presidential convoy. He is welcomed by his two highly committed to his trust bodyguards. Coming after him, the officials continue to explore new weapons and medical equipment. "This time the shipment has come one month late," say the officials. "I was told the waters were hush that's why," he replies confidently. "I think the calculations were wrongly taken so next time we're going to clears the errors," he gives assurance.
After all the inspections, Don sets off the officials.
"Welcome back from the break. Hope you had a wonderful time off," he speaks to his two bodyguards. "We've go a lot to accomplish that's why I summoned you back," he says. "Tomorrow I'm sending new instruction, hope you're well prepared," he question checks them. "We're well prepared sir,"they give an energetic response. Immediately his driver pulls close, Cobra opens the door for the boss. After confirming he is safely in, an escort prepares to follow up as it is always done and the convoy departs.
Don's convoy arrives at one of his hotels where he set his permanent residence. Every human being working within comes out, lining up on both sides to render a respectful greeting. He walks to the elevator which takes him with his two bodyguards straight on the 20th floor where he designed specially for himself to resides.
"You know I love you madly. Everything we promised each other make more sense to me. Whenever you need me, am just a phone call away," with a soft voice Don speaks behind the phone. "Your words cut like a two sided sword. At first I was mad at you for leaving without letting me know. But I forgive you now just like God forgives us our sins," she disposes such captivating words into his ears. "I will never forgive myself if I ever treat you wrong even if it is once in our entire relationship," he confesses with charming words. "I'm so grateful to be loved," she says. "I don't want you to wake up late. Since it is raining outside, let me just send you my goodnight wishes," passionately he says and he ends the call.
He takes off his business outfit and dresses in a white bathroom gown. He then picks a champagne bottle from the chiller, walks along with it plus a glass to the jacuzzi, pours himself a glass of champagne, sits back and relax his head with a drink in his hands. This is the kind of life 'Don,' well known as Mr Yang to Lala, has always lived.
Back to Lala, as she digests the anointing words recieved from her special soul mate, a smile of happiness can't risk to leave her pretty face. She holds the phone tight in her chest, she puts up her head while her eyes are closed, inhales deeply the fresh bedroom air and exhales slowly trying to relax. Afterwards, she turns off the lights and lays her back slowly down on bed.
"Hey! sister I tossed that salad with some oil and vinegar and set it on table not for you, for mom!" Lala attacks Dodo peacefully for eating a salad she finds on table, " you are allergic to vinegar remember." "Oh my goodness," Dodo yells. She rushes upstairs to her room to collect some antibiotics to protect her body from reacting. Lala runs behind worriedly to make sure she is safe. Come-on! why didn't you inform me," she asks in panic. "I didn't know you never went to work today," she replies in panic too. Quickly Dodo bumps into the door and opens her chest drawers one by one checking. "Let me collect some water for you to swallow with," Lala says scared in panic. "I can't wait let's just go to the kitchen together," they both run downstairs immediately to the kitchen chambers into the fridge. Lala picks the bottle, opens it while Dodo opens the antibiotics tin in a rush and she swallows two tablets. "Are you feeling okay?" Lala asks still in worries. "I will be fine no more worries now," she replies. "Are you sure," she asks for confirmation. "Yes Lala, Yes!" She assures. They both sit on the kitchen counter and relax. "Next time ask before you just eat anything you find," Lala gives her a piece of advice. "Am so sorry but the salad was appetizing," Dodo agrees in a sorry kind of state.
"We need a glass of wine to help us relax more," Lala suggests "Not a bad idea" Dodo buy it asking, "which one do you recommend?" "I pick that one," she points. Dodo goes to pick the bottle. "This wine's fruit is rich in apricot and papaya flavors," Lala states. "Oh! okay, I'm going no where, let's enjoy it from here," Dodo opens up the bottle and she takes a sip. Lala picks the bottle from her and she also takes a sip. They both laugh, sipping on the same bottle expressing love, care and unity amongst each other.
After a little while, Lala asks Dodo, "Please tell me about your fiancée." "Uh! okay. First and foremost I love him so much. We grew up together, here in this house with my parents. He is a very handsome guy, became very rich at a very young age, everyone loves and respects him. Truth is, it's not easy with him especially when it gets to his personal life. He keeps it private. I can't lie to you that I understand him. He is on and off. Sometimes I think maybe because of his business empire that's why!, I can never have him when I want. I heard he returned that's why I didn't go to the office today. I want to meet him and spend sometime. I miss him a lot," Dodo elaborates to Lala. "Am sorry for making you emotional." Lala apologizes. "Nothing to be sorry about sister Lala" she responds, "I pray we get married and have our own children, maybe he will have something to keep him around and open hearted."
