'He's new' Ava said quietly, 'not long turned. New blood.'
'And I hate it,' Jack said. 'When I was first bitten I fought; was able to resist the change – like Rolland.'
Jane nodded. 'Rolland got bitten, but he won't change.'
Jack scowled. 'That's because, unlike Rolland, I was bitten, locked up for a month, and force-fed turning herbs and potions until my resistance cracked.'
Everyone froze for a moment when Ava added bitterly, 'By my mother,' her voice was hoarse with emotion.
'But Jack ain't like the other werewolves,' Rolland chirped, chewing on a big bite of bagel. 'He isn't mean and hungry; he doesn't chase people down. He saved us! And he keeps his own eyes. No werewolf has ever done that before. Ever gone against his kind to save humans. '
'Jack retains some human control when in the werewolf form,' Ava explained. She paused. 'We think he's a silverblood.'
