章 18: Chapter 18: Bittersweet

Dinner was better than Florence could have ever imagined. Everything went smoothly, with her parents pampering Scott all the time, and Scott allowing them too by being as perfect as someone could be.

Florence watched the whole interaction barely saying anything, heartbroken and with her head going on a downward spiral with every possible bad future scenario taking control of her thoughts.

She was able to enjoy dinner though, with a lot of funny remarks from Scott, her mom being embarrassed by looking at the man straight in the eyes, and her father asking him a lot of business questions, something Florence was certain reminded him of the old days when he used to work with something he loved.

In the meantime, she sipped her wine and pretended the scene in front of her was nothing but a beautiful movie.

By the time Scott got up to leave, they had already moved back to the living room where Isabella and Liam showed pictures of baby Florence and told him stories of her childhood.
