"Yes…" She told him, "No….I don't know…!"
"Please…"
"Klaus...!" She climbed down the stairs again, she was standing right in front of him.
"I haven't been on a date in four years. I am still wallowing over the man I married four years ago!" She told him. She looked at the ring she was wearing in her necklace.
"I don't know where I am in the whole dating situation!" She sat down on the steps. She sighed.
"And when I did think about it, It's not like there is a vampire dating site!"
Klaus sat down beside her.
"Then, give me a chance!" He told her. "You know, I made the promise of...."
"Of being my last love!" She completed the sentence. "I know….I remember, It was my graduation!"
She held her head in her hands.
"That was so long ago!"
She looked at him.
"You get what I mean?" She asked. "Does time fly by?"
"Caroline…" He started to say, "I have been a vampire for over a millennium…..And some things have gone by fast, and some things that I simply cannot forget, even now....." He took a deep breath, "Even after a thousand years went by!"
"Really?" She asked him. He looked in his eyes. She hadn't even realized how deep his eyes looked.
"Ofcourse…!" He told her.
"But if you can't take up the opportunities, they will go away…...and you won't be able to get the things that you missed."
"Do you regret missing out on something?" She asked him.
"Of course, a thousand years…." He looked away. Maybe it was the embarrassment or the guilt he had.
"And a million regrets…"
"What is the biggest regret you have?" She asked him.
"I killed thousands of people from the time I turned." He said, "But the worst I feel, when I think back on when I was in New Orleans….."
He was telling her something he hadn't ever told anyone.
"And, Hayley was there!" She was listening intently. "She told me that she was pregnant…..with Hope."
He looked away again, she thought his eyes were watery.
She waited for him to continue.
"I said, 'Kill it for all I care!" He looked at his hands, "It is the deepest regret I ever felt."
"Oh my God!" She looked at him. "You didn't...."
"And you are thinking I am a horrible person!" Klaus said.
"Of course, I think you are a horrible person!" She told him, laughing. "But not about this...Because you changed."
Klaus smiled.
"I couldn't hate you when you tried to kill my best friends…..So, I don't know.."
Caroline's phone beeped.
"I really have to sleep!" She stood up. "It's Monday tomorrow!"
"Can I see you again?" He asked again.
"Okay…" She nodded softly.
"Really?" He looked at her, his eyes sharp and lightened.
"Yes…" She told him. "Not on a school day!"
Klaus Mikaelson smiled.
"See you on Saturday!" He told her. "7 O'clock!"
Caroline waved as she saw Klaus disappear through the street. She sighed, she didn't know what she was doing. She felt reassured that Klaus was different now that he had a baby.
Caroline had been dating Klaus for a few months now. He was standing outside her house, and was about to knock when the door opened.
"Hey!" She opened the door.
"How did you know I was here?!"
She pointed at her ears.
"Vamp hearing!" She looked at him. "What are you doing?"
"I want to take you somewhere!"
"Today?"
"I meant now…" He told her.
"I have a fundraiser today….." She told him.
"You have fundraisers all the time!" He pointed towards the car.
"Where are we going?" She asked him.
"New Orleans!" He told her.
"Wait, what?" She looked at her watch. "Now?"
"Hope has been waiting for you!" He told her, "For six weeks now, and I promised I would bring you by."
She smiled.
"Okay...Okay…!" She took out her phone, and messaged. "Let's go!"
Klaus Mikaelson and Caroline Forbes were driving towards New Orleans, and arrived there after a few hours.
He parked outside a place, marked with a large 'M'.
"What is this place!?" Caroline asked.
"The Mikaelson Compound!"
"The Mikaelson compound?" She looked at him, "Fancy!" She made a sarcastic gesture.
"We made this place! We built the city, me and Elijah." He explained. "Three hundred years ago."
"Really?" She looked at him.
"This was home for us!" He opened the doors, "It still is…"
She smiled. She could hear gunshots in the distance. A woman screamed.
"I'll be right back!" Klaus told her.
"Should I come with you?" She asked, concerned.
"No….just…I know who it is..." He was in a hurry, "I'll be back in a second!"
"Oh…okay." She nodded. Maybe, it was something he had to do by himself. Or maybe, he knew the woman.
She walked around the outside of the house, not quite knowing what to do.
Suddenly, someone appeared right behind her. She didn't jump. She was a vampire. And a very controlled one at this point. She turned around.
"Who are you?" She stared at the man. "I have seen you before...….."
The man moved towards her, to drink from her. She took a step back, and held the man from his shoulder and threw him back. Hard. He wasn't expecting that. He went flying to the other end of the house, and crashed into a wall.
"Kol!" Another man appeared from the other side of the house. He looked distinguished. "How many have I told you not to mess with the guests?"
He came down, slowly. Caroline thought his slow walking made an impact.
"Didn't realize she was a vampire!" Kol got up, and brushed himself. "And a good one indeed...It's a shame that...!"
He ripped off a tree branch from the tree nearby, and advanced Caroline with so much speed that she didn't know what to do.
Elijah Mikaelson was standing in front of her, as he defended her from Kol. The wooden branch broke into Elijah's skin, and he softly removed it without even blinking, and threw it aside.
