章 3: New Target

The price was fantastic and many times what Castelia and Maddie usually got. They stared at each other with incredible shock in their hearts. How to turn down that much money? They would even kill for all that money. Melody added, "I'll give you a fifty thousand dollar bonus if you do well."

Castelia and Maddie turned their heads, looking at Melody to see if she was serious or not. Melody wasn't joking, it all showed on her serious and ambitious face. The treasures that Melody could get were far more than what she was offering, so she thought the price was well worth it if they succeeded in the mission.

Melody wants all their parents' property and killing her husband is not the answer. So, the only option Melody has to find evidence of her husband's betrayal, even if it's fake. "So, tell me something?" Melody asked, impatiently waiting for an answer from two people who were thinking. "Are you going to do it or not?"

Maddie pounded the table as she got up, smiling excitedly and replied, "Sure, we'll help you." Maddie didn't hesitate, she clarified, "What we need to do is find evidence that he has another woman behind you, right?"

"Right," Melody added, "Create one if it doesn't exist."

Castelia wasn't sure, considering Melody's request had deviated from what they always did. But for the money? Doubt disappeared from her heart without a second. "That's easy. We'll do it."

It's easy because they don't know who Melody's husband is yet. The woman's expression became horror as she lifted her back from the back of the chair to look at Castelia intently and said, "My husband is frigid and conscientious. One carelessness, you have failed."

Maddie couldn't believe it because her confidence was so high that they didn't know what failure was. Maddie confidently blurted out, "We'll give you a hundredfold money-back guarantee if we fail."

Melody squeaked, not thinking that all the compensation costs were worth it if they failed because ten million dollars wasn't worth what she could get. And more than that, her husband will know that what happened was her doing and who knows what his reaction will be. However, Melody did not refuse. "Fine," replied the woman.

Melody grabbed her handbag from the table as she said, "I'll send you the photos and his schedule for the next three days. Remember that you only have three days." Melody made it very clear, she took out a thick white envelope and placed it on the table before adding, "This is the down payment and the rest after you guys make it."

"We'll make sure we won't let you down," Maddie said, and Melody walked away after that. Castelia snatched the envelope from the table and peered inside. Bunch of dollars with a large nominal. They both stared in disbelief. Maddie commented, "How does everyone have so much money?"

Castelia never understood that. They have to kill for big bucks and other people have that kind of money by doing nothing. How unfair the world was, causing them to snort with envy.

The sound of a notification from the phone caught their attention, Maddie picked it up and saw several incoming messages on behalf of Melody. Photos and notes and text messages confirm that they only had three days and no failures.

Call Maddie arrogant, she thinks three days is too long for her to complete the task. Maddie studied the photo of a man in an expensive suit and a note underneath. It just so happened that today was Saturday and his schedule was, "He's going to the bar with his friends."

What a perfect time to carry out the mission! A stroke of luck, they thought as they smiled happily. "Let's go home and start making plans," Castelia said, getting up from her seat before she could see the face of the man on the phone screen.

"This man is handsome," said Maddie, who had not managed to forget the face of the man she had seen earlier. No, it's not about being handsome, but the face of the man with a firm jaw looks familiar. Since Maddie can't remember well, she decides to ignore it.

It was nine o'clock at night when Castelia and Maddie stood in the centre of the room, in front of the mirror. They wore maroon and sky blue sleeveless dresses, the clothes they usually wear when spending time at a bar with alcohol.

"I forgot my phone died because the battery ran out," Maddie said, annoyed when she couldn't turn on her phone. "You haven't seen the face of the man that gonna be our target." They were, in fact, almost late and Maddie had just remembered that important thing.

Maddie wanted to charge her phone but Castelia seemed nonchalant, calmly commenting, "He's a guy who wears an expensive watch which there are only three in the world. It shouldn't be hard to find him." Castelia remembered that as Maddie rambled on. Because of that little knowledge, she didn't think the looks of that man were necessary.

"That's right," Maddie replied, giving up on turning on her phone. She left it on the small table beside the bed as she said, "Let's go before we are late." Maddie grabbed a small red bag while Castelia tied her hair up high before putting on big, round earrings.

Within fifteen minutes of riding in the car, they arrived at the bar, walking alone through the front door and a flirtatious wink to the two doorkeepers. It was crowded inside the typical rich man's bar, especially the dance floor filled with drunk people. The DJ's song echoed in every corner, its loud voice as if it would crack the ears of all people.

The colourful lights wouldn't stop flickering. For people who are unfamiliar with the place, it's going to be a headache to see. Excited drunken screams and the smell of cigarettes and alcohol mixed but failed to disturb the accustomed Castelia and Maddie. They looked around, looking for the target which should have been sitting with his friends on the long sofa.

"He—ah!" Castelia whined as someone suddenly bumped into her from behind. Not strong enough to bounce, but the stiff arms managed to hurt her lean shoulders.

"Are you all right, Cas?" Maddie asked before turning to look at who had bumped into her friend. Maddie gasped at the sight, realizing that the man was their target for the night.

Castelia had to turn around to see what Maddie was looking at. The man just walked past her without an apology and Castelia didn't get to see his face. "He's the one," Maddie whispered, catching Castelia's attention and making her stare.

"That bastard?" Castelia was irritated, she turned to glare at the man who had joined his friends' table and Castelia fell silent. Her angry expression turned unreadable as she finally managed to see the face of the man who would be their target.

A man 183cm tall had fair skin and was slightly muscular. He was handsome with a neatly slicked back hairstyle and a firm face. Thick eyebrows with a sharp nose, Castelia had not only seen him but knew him well.

"Oh my God, Maddie," Castelia called out in a half-stupid state, unable to believe what she had just seen.

"What is it?" Maddie asked, confused by Castelia's sudden strange behaviour.

Castelia told, "He's Joshua Vepsa."

"Joshua Vepsa?" Maddie was sure she'd heard the familiar name, she was silent as she tried to remember. Previously, Melody hadn't listed their target's name, so she didn't know. "Joshua? Who's Joshua?" She asked when unable to recognize anyone.

Castelia said, "Joshua. My first love."
